My DD8 dropped our camera a couple of days before her birthday party and two weeks before our trip to Disneyland.

It was an older camera (Kodak EasyShare DX4530)- but it still took great pictures. It will be missed dearly. Actually it still takes good pictures - it is just the LCD that is severely cracked. It is cracked bad enough that my DH doesn't want us holding the camera to our faces.

We were able to get through the birthday party yesterday using the view finder - the majority of the pictures turned out wonderfully.

But we are going to get a new one before Disneyland.

We are not looking for fancy. Small, easy to operate, but takes good photos.

Does anybody have any thought on these three models we are considering:
Canon PowerShot SD1100 Digital ELPH
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100
Nikon Coolpix S210 (Third choice - probably ruled out due to reviews)

We have looked on cnet and consumer reports. I am just looking for some personal opinions of those models.

Thanks for your help.

I would suggest of those three the canon or nikon simply because the Sony would require investment in new memory...

If you still want to keep using the kodak just get some clear packing tape and put over the screen it should keep any glass from breaking free till you retire the camera for good.

thomas998 - Thanks so much for the reminder. I had not even thought of the whole memory stick thing. Bleh. I liked the sony because of the slide lens cover design. The one thing I don't like about our old Kodak is the lens cover gets knocked off when you shove it into a backpack/camera bag or purse.

And I know it is not fair to judge modern cameras based on my circa 1984 canon sureshot - but when it began to fail it was its auto lens cover. I got more than 10 years and visits to at least 20 countries out of that camera - so I know something had to begin to fail... but the round of pictures framed ever so slightly by the not fully opened lens cap device was annoying.

We are seriously leaning toward the Canon Elph.

Don't get the NIkon. We have it, and we hate it. It's extremely slow. The pictures it takes are generally, OK, but it is just so SLOW that I am kicking myself up and down for not getting the Canon. I haven't touched it since I got my DSLR, just because I REALLY can't stand it.

I have a Canon point and shoot camera and really love it, for what it is. I now like my Nikon dSLR much more, but when we go to WDW next year I will probably bring my Canon just in case there is a day that I don't feel like carrying around all sorts of stuff.

Mine is only 4mp and one of the older models, and I still love it. The pictures are clear, the zoon was good enough for what I needed, the LCD was big and bright and if I had to get another point and shoot, I'd most definitely get a Canon.

For myself, if I liked one particular camera's features over another I wouldn't let the memory be too big of a difference. Of course my most recent laptop is a Sony that has slots that allows me to upload directly from a memory stick or SD so I find either of those more convenient - just not breaking points. I also have an external CF reader. You can find all the different memory types on sale at various times.

Thanks for everyone's help.

We got the Canon SD1100 Elph. I am charging the battery right now - so I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I think I am going to miss being able to use lithium AAs.

It is SO much smaller than the old Kodak we have. I like its feel - but it is going to take some getting use to.
