Dancing with the Stars: Season 5 OFFICAL THREAD!!! STARS ANNOUNCED!

I thought Sabrina's dance was great. She is very over the top energetic, but I thought her lines (extentions?) when she did the graceful twirls that were in Monday's number were great.

I'm very shocked she went home. Who I don't get is Mel. I think she's strictly middle of the pack and didn't "get" her high scores on Monday.

From Monday, I would have put Cameron and Jane in the bottom two. Overall, I would put Jane and Marie in the bottom two. I don't know who I'd pick for the winner because they're all pretty good, but I don't see a "standout." I thought Sabrina had a good shot.

But this is the first time someone who should have made it to the finals was sent home... just another reminder that it isn't a "dance" competition... it's who has the biggest fan base. I guess "tweens" don't watch dancing because if they did and voted Sabrina would have taken the trophy home. :sad2:

Actually, that's not quite true. During season 2, Stacy Keibler was voted off when she should have made it to the finals. She has perfect 30's in weeks 5, 6 & 8 with a total of 4 perfect 30's. Everyone, including the judges, were very shocked about her leaving too.

I fell asleep on the couch last night and missed the ending. I too am shocked that Sabrina went home. She was not my favorite, but she surely isn't the least talented there. Marie Osmond, God bless her, should have gone.

I agree with the judges this time on her performance. Sabrina's dance did lack something, maybe elegance? She was snapping the turns and postures instead of making them fluid. She was dancing it more like a pasa doblay. (sp?)

And why were Cameron and Edyta dressed like Pocahontas and John Smith? I understand they wanted to dance their dance in a tribal style, but they choose the wrong costumes if I could associate them with a Disney movie!

I was in complete shock last night when I heard the results! :confused3 Although I've mentioned on here that Sabrina wasn't my favorite dancer, there is no doubt that she is clearly one of the best dancers on the show. I had her pegged (along with Mel B.) as the final two.

She was on Jimmy Kimmel last night and he said that maybe because she was so good that people figured they didn't have to vote for her?? Maybe he's right??

And to go back to what a few people have been saying (not so much here as other blogs and message boards I've been reading), Sabrina (AND any other star who has some dancing background, i.e. Mel B., Joey Fantone, Joey McIntyre, etc. etc.) does not have a completely unfair advantage to the other contestants. I speak firsthand to this. I have a 20 year background of jazz, hip hop, cheer dance as well as coaching & choreographing cheering and professionally judging cheer and dance competitions. I decided to give ballroom a try this year for the first time and it's one of the hardest things I've ever done. Not only do you need to learn completely new steps but learning to now dance with a partner as opposed to solo is extremely difficult. I was even told when I first started my moves were "too hip-hop." Ballroom dancing is it's own animal.

I too was shocked regarding the results. I was a little more shocked at how chummy Jenny was her dance partner were/are. That's not her dh is it :scratchin: He was all over her.

I vote for Cameron each and every week. I wouldn't care if he fell flat on his face. I love him and will vote for him every time. Met him numerous times at SSW and love love love him. It really is a personality contest for me. I love all the others too, but I will continue to vote for Cameron each week.:goodvibes

I thought she was doing a fantastic job on "Dancing" and I was completely shocked that she was sent home last night. But I have always felt the voting system they use is unfair. You only have 30 minutes after the show to vote and voting during the show makes it just a popularity contest. How can you vote for the "best dance" when you haven't seen them all. The other voting shows seem to have much better systems... but they aren't on ABC are they.

This is only one example of how unjust the system is... back in one of the early seasons when Master P was kept on week after week and he wouldn't even move! Then Jerry Springer (who is a very nice man and did the best he could) was obviously hoping to go home was kept on week after week.

But this is the first time someone who should have made it to the finals was sent home... just another reminder that it isn't a "dance" competition... it's who has the biggest fan base. Excellent post... I soooo agree!!!

I feel that not only is the voting set-up flawed, but that also the actuall electronic voting system is flawed. Several times the best dancer has been robbed, wtih people (including myself) saying that they could not get thru and get the system to register their vote, with what seemed like techical difficulties. ABC has NEVER acknowledged this possibility at all. Other programs have had to bite the bullet and did admit when there were obvious problems.

I do agree that it is a lot of a popularity-fanbase contest. But, by this time in the competition it seems like the votes are starting to come in favor of the best dancers... The Master P's and the Jerry Springers do fnally get voted off.... But, in this case... Marie Osmond safe while Sabrina goes home!!!!! :confused3 :sad2: :scared1:

And, you can't tell me that Cheeta Girl does not have a fan base. That smile of hers alone is worth a lot of votes. I believe that it is the flawed system and not simply a lack of people voting for her that is the problem.

On one of the ABC boards, many people are talking about how they could not get through to vote for Sabrina, both online and on the phone. If ABC was having technical difficulties, that could explain it. I know I was able to get my online votes in, but when I tried to call on 2 different phones, I either...

1. Got a busy signal
2. Got a message that I had used all my votes (when in reality I was never able to vote by phone)

This happened to me in a past season when I was trying to vote for the obvious favorite/best dancer, and could never get thru... dead air, error message, etc...
NO WAY was Emmit Smith the best dancer and voters favorite.

There are obvious problems with the voting system, and the setup that does not allow enough time for everyone who might wish to vote to actually vote.

ABC should be ashamed.

Emmit has a large fan base - not necessarily from Dancing with the Stars. He was a pretty darn good dancer too.

:rotfl2: We were both thinking she looked like a cheerleader from a porn flick. ;)

I didn't go all the way back to the original posts about Edyta...

But I simply cannot stand that woman.

She is very obviously nothing but a skank.
I have never seen her exhibit any redeeming qualities.

The way she uses strings and rags as dancing costumes is just horrid.

I have always called her last name by replacing the 'ew' in slewinski with 'ut'. :rotfl2:

Ohhh, I do not mean any disrespect to Emmit. He seems like a great guy, and he did do a good job dancing..

However, I still maintain that NO WAY should he have been the winner.

And, if we are talking fan-base... He is a football athlete. Now, I can just see all these football watching men, with their beers and their grub, tuning in to 'Dancing' every week to vote.... Ummm, I am not so sure that I buy that.

ahhh but think of the wives of those football men....I made mine watch!

Here is Jennie' husband (Peter Facinelli who's also an actor):

:rotfl2:

Yuk, I can't stand her either!!! I was so glad the other week when Len told her to stop doing the LEG thing... it's about all she knows how to do.

But I must say I like her a heck of a lot more than the one who danced with Mario last year. She looks like she's constantly smelling something bad!! :scared:

I much prefer their voting system as far as limiting the number of votes to the unlimited ones that American Idol gives you. But I do feel that votes should only be placed "after" the show is over and that there should be more time to do so.

I like Edyta but didn't care for what's her face, Mario Lopez's partner. I can't remember who she danced with this season. She's a poor loser.

Absolutely!! There have been voting problems from the beginning - including not having enough lines open - that have never been addressed. And since they won't do anything about it... why even try to vote.

Yes, it has always been a problem getting the "you have used up all your votes" message too soon, but I have discovered that even after that message, if I keep trying I eventually am able to finish all my votes.
I think that Sabrina should never have been cast on the show in the first place, given her extensive dance background and training. I don't know if it is true, but someone on another discussion board claims that she went to college on a dance scholarship!
Furthermore, she is not JUST trained in hip hop dance. There is a very telling video on YouTube (don't know if it is from the CheetoGirl TV show or movie) showing Sabrina doing a long (5 minutes or so) tango in a dance studio. She looked very professional!

I guess "tweens" don't watch dancing because if they did and voted Sabrina would have taken the trophy home. :sad2:
With Master P, there was a campaign to vote for him because he was so bad. There was a bunch of people who were trying to sabotage the results. Just like some people do with American Idol. I haven't really heard anything about that this season. Although really, now, there's no one left who is truly bad.

As for the "tweens" my theory is that they possibly are tivoing the show and can't use phone votes since they watch it later. I know I can never watch it live. Although that doesn't stop them from just calling in anyway. But maybe she doesn't really have that big of a fan base. I don't really know, I have boys. I've heard of the Cheetah Girls before but I don't think they're as big as Hannah Montana, are they?

I was going to mention her too, it was so unfair to her when Jerry Rice remained and she was voted off.
