Dancing with the Stars: Season 5 OFFICAL THREAD!!! STARS ANNOUNCED!

I think she was a really, really good dancer, but I didn't want her to win because I thought she was a little too skilled over the rest.

But shouldn't the most skilled person be the winner? Isn't that the point of a dancing competition...that the best dancer wins.

The judges sure looked shocked to me...or they were acting quite well.

I can't believe it. That is just so wrong!!:sad2: It should have Jane or Marie. Sabrina was a much better dancer no matter what style it was.

I'd agree if it were a level playing field and all the nonprofessional dancers had the same caliber of dance technique. Clearly there is not a level field when it comes to technical ability, and so the nonprofesionals have to bring other skills (musicality, performance capability, etc.) and their personality to the mix.

For example, Marie, compared to Cheetah Girl, does not have same technical ability, but Marie can perform the @#@* out of her dance numbers, and I would rather watch her high performance quality but very limited technique than Cheetah Girl's high technique and lower performance quality.

This show is much more about entertainment (watching B and C list celebrities including some I know I have never heard of--e.g., the male model early in the show) than it is about dance ability. Obviously, people's idea of entertainment is going to vary. If thi show was completely about dance ability--in a ballroom format--then the ballroom competitions (which are excellent shows) shown on PBS would be televised on ABC instead.;)

I agree. She is a professional dancer & choreographer. She should never have been even in the competition. This should be an amateur competition. Or what's the point? :confused3

:scared1: I'm DONE watchng that show. Sabrina was by far the best one-in my opinion- and now that she's gone-zo i'm threw. TOnight was such a joke. Did you guys see marie's face? I thought she was going to faint all over again. :scared1:

I normally don't get all worked up over these shows cuz i think they are rigged and I don't vote or anything... so normally i don't voice my opinion when i think someone shoulda stayed.... but this time i'll make an exception... SHE SHOULD HAVE STAYED!!!

What a shocker! I've agreed with the way the votes have gone up until tonight. Jane should have left this week not Sabrina. Mind you, Jane is very graceful but she just doesn't have it. And those shoes she wore last night. Ugh! Very distracting, they were the wrong color and drew too much attention to her feet. It would have been much better for her to wear light silver or gray. I know, I know, she had to match her partner but...... :sad2:

On one of the ABC boards, many people are talking about how they could not get through to vote for Sabrina, both online and on the phone. If ABC was having technical difficulties, that could explain it. I know I was able to get my online votes in, but when I tried to call on 2 different phones, I either...

1. Got a busy signal
2. Got a message that I had used all my votes (when in reality I was never able to vote by phone)

As far as level playing field...it's not like these celebs call up DWTS and say, "Me! Pick me!"

The producers of the show probably control who it is they approach to be on the show. And really, wouldn't you think it would be a little harder for someone trained in hip-hop to learn ballroom dances? I mean, she probably had to un-learn some of what she does, or think about turning off her hip-hop experience because it's totally different than ballroom.

Someone who has never done dancing before wouldn't have that experience warring with what they are trying to learn. Which is why I respected how well Sabrina was doing.

And if we really want to get picky...Mel B is a Spice Girl. Dancing background right there. Rumor has it that Jane Seymour is a classically trained ballet dancer. So if you want to boot off the pros...there you go.

I've been lurking on this thread for weeks, but tonight's results have brought me out of lurkdom. I cannot believe that Sabrina got the boot. She was definitely my favorite. As for people who think she should go because she has more dance experience, well there are always people on the show who have more experience than others. There are boy band members almost every season. There have been athletes who started out not knowing anything about dance, but because they were so conditioned, they were able to push themselves harder than others. There are other people who have a ton of performance experience that makes their dances more entertaining to watch.

As far as I'm concerned, there's really no reason to watch anymore, since obviously, Marie and Jane have huge fan support that will get them much farther than they should go. And I actually really like Marie, but she and Jane should have gone before Sabrina.

Points 1 and 2--oh my, it was just a matter of time before the conspiracy theories started.;)

Point 3. I have no idea of what the casting process is for DWTS--and presume that you don't either--but I would not be the least surprised if the celebrities' agents/managers/handlers initiate contact with the producers.

Point 4. Sabrina could not unlearn her hip hop/jazz background and the judges (I believe Bruno) finally called her on that last night. This point of course, of not being able to unlearn her hip hop/jazz background is my opinion. You think differently. I won't change your mind and you won't change mine.

Re Mel B--umm yeah okay, if one wants to call the gyrations of the Spice Girls dancing--whatever.

And it is not a rumor--Jane Seymour trained as dancer when she was a teenager 40 years ago. Since she had to stop dancing when she was 16 due to an injury, I think one could safely say she has not been dancing professionally in the last 40 years (I believe she is 56). I don't see how anyone could suggest 40+ year experinece--from way back when--makes one a professional dancer especially compared to the current training/performing experience of a 20 something year old woman.

DWTS is an ABC show and as such it showcases the ABC/Disney family of B and C celebrities. That was probably why Sabrina was in it to begin with. Cheetah Girls = Disney. Cameron is on "All My Children", an ABC Soap. As for Jane, "Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman" has been shown on ABC Family. I'm sure I could dig up other connections with the network if I tried.

I can add another ABC tie in. Marie used to have a show with Donny on ABC several years ago.

Helio, I bet anything ABC shows the races he does.

Not on this show. It's also a popularity contest. Although I will have to say that I am surprised. She got high scores and I would figure she would have a high fan base as well. It doesn't bother me because I didn't care for her.

I have to agree. I liked Sabrina...but you could tell right from the 1st week she was a much more experienced dancer. Maybe she isn't a ballroom dancer, but she spends alot of time dancing, learning steps, choregraphing, ect...different from Jane Seymour who did ballet YEARS ago and even Mel B whose dancing isn't nearly as much of the Spice Girls act as it is for the Cheetah Girls.

I like Dancing best when someone like Emmet Smith wins. Totally NOT a dancer, but he learned, worked hard, got way better and won.

I don't know if it's fair to call Sabrina "Cheater" Girl though like I saw on one show tonight...maybe ET? It isn't like she was trying to be sneaky or hide her dance experience. I blame the show. They knew her background when they picked her. I think it might have hurt her though. I felt bad for her, she looked truly upset... and really, based just on the dance, it should have been Jane going home tonight. Her Jive was terrible.

Dr. Quinn, Medicne Woman was a CBS show, which aired on Friday nights back in the 90s. I know because I had a major crush on the actor who played Sully on that show. :) If DQMW is showing up on ABC Family then it is a syndicated re-run deal. In my book that does not make Jane Seymour part of the ABC/Disney talent pool, and I understood from the start about the placement of ABC/Disney celebrities.

It was ET that it was on about Sabrina Cheater Girl. Donny also said Helio should go home.

I'm not overly disappointed either. I thought the judges gave her way too high a score this week. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either - way too harsh for a fox trot.

Mel has a similar dance background to Sabrina (at least style-wise), and she is able to pull off the slow graceful dances way better than Sabrina. I'm truly surprised at how good she is (don't think she deserved a 30 this week though).

It probably should have been Jane or Marie this week as this was a rough week for both and the judges scores reflected that, but I do like them so I'm glad they're still there.

To be honest, I like all the people who were still in it this week, including Sabrina, so I won't be upset if any of them win it. Jennie and Cameron have made huge strides. Helio is much better when he's trying not to smile and he can be himself. No one really stinks this late in the game this year.
