CVS ECB Deals - Sales for Week 1/20/08-1/26/08

Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to purchase 3 blood sugar monitors today "free" with coupon that was attached and get $10 ECB for each one. The tax on them were $.75 each. They had the monitors in a cart at the front of the store with a big FREE sign on them.

DH got a new prescription today and used a coupon for the $25 GC. The Pharmacist told him that since he got prescriptions, he also got some ECB added to his account. Nothing printed out on the receipt, so are these ECBs different? Will they show up when the card is scanned?

I have not seen any coupons for prescriptions that give ECBs. You get a $25 gift card when you get your prescription filled and use the coupon.

Am I making any sense?

Wait a minute! My brain just kicked in. You are supposed to 1 ECB for every 2 prescriptions you get filled. You must have your CVS card scanned first. But for some reason we never get these. I thought it might be because DH is on MediCare. Does anybody else ever get ECBs for prescriptions?

They are quarterly, along with the 2% you get back on your other purchases. Sometimes it's 6%, but they haven't sent out a coupon for that yet for winter quarter.

They print on your receipt at the end of the quarter, and you can also print them from your account online. If you have given CVS your phone number, they call and leave a message if you have more than $5 in ECBs and the message says they are printing now at the store.

I had $16.50 on my last quarter, I think they became available right around January 1st.

Sure - unless your cashier is a tyrant. Lots of people use 2 coupons on B1G1 deals, the register accepts both.

I think they are together as I've always just gotten one quarterly ECB.

Then that makes sense. My quartely ECB was $28. I was so shocked as I never pay more than 1 or 2 dollars OOP. But DH takes mannnnnny meds and that is probably how I got that much. Not that I am complaining.

I'm sure mine was mostly prescriptions too. I know tobacco, lottery, postage, prescriptions and gift card purchases are excluded from the 2%.

Did you use the triple coupon last quarter? I did, but I think it didn't come out until about halfway through the quarter. I hope they do another this quarter!

Yes I did than triple coupon too.

Now I have another question. I did not think ECBs paid for your tax. But for example today on the shopping trip I posted today my taxes were over $5. After I used coupons and ECBs tax was down to .66. Do you know how that works?

I can't say for sure, but I think this is what happens..

The coupons adjust the totals so the remaining tax is based on the amount after coupons, but before ECBs are used for payment.

It's hard for me to figure it out in MN because we don't pay tax on food or over the counter meds, but we pay it on snack and convenience foods like pop.
