Cruising with 1 year old

I just got back from Alaska with our 15 month old and am in the process of writing a trip report. :) We loved the nursery. We would also order room service every morning for breakfast. You can write in other things you want on the hanger... cheese plate, uncrustables, fruit plate, yogurt. We would keep all these things in the fridge for William to snack on throughout the days.

I brought a small bottle of dish soap to clean his bottles and sippy cups with in the bathroom.

The tub is great for little ones.

We asked for a couple extra blankets the first night, because the pack and play only comes with a sheet. The stationary in the desk works great for asking your room steward for more/different items. I left them on the bed in the morning and they were always fulfilled by the evening. He even helped me vacuum seal a robe I brought.

I downloaded a white noise app on my phone.

I can't wait to read the trip report! We used to live in Alaska (and hope to move back there in a few years), and we miss it tons! Ordering room service extras and keeping them it the fridge is an excellent idea for snacks! Thanks for the tips!

Does your baby love a particular food? Ask for it at the beginning of the cruise. Seriously. For days William ate raspberries and smoked salmon.

Toddler time on the boat was nice. They have counselors there, so we kicked back a bit while they interacted with William.

If we had the late seating, I would try to switch it. Lol. But if not, I would wear William in a carrier, probably.

She loves everything! The only food she's not a fan of is carrots, but neither of us are either. We have a request for a specific server, so we're afraid to ask for the earlier time as well--we'd rather have our favorite server than dining earlier without him. I'm planning on feeding our daughter around 5:15ish and then she'll just get snackage when we eat dinner (unless she's asleep).

TOTALLY worth it. I tired to request a specific server and it didn't work. -_- After all the trip reports I read- I assumed that all the severs were fantastic and loved children... but not so much. I think it will totally work. Especially if she has a later bedtime.

Last time we requested a server we got him (we had a table to ourselves, but we had our favorite server), so hopefully we'll have some pixie dust! Our daughter's bedtime is 7:00, so we'll see what happens. She doesn't have any problems napping/sleeping in a stroller or car seat, so I'm not too worried. Thanks!

We had late dining when our daughter was young about 18 months, and she just couldn't make it that late. We did the rest of the cruise in the Cabanas a la cart dining area, and it worked great. We didn't use the nursery that trip because her separation anxiety was horrible at 18 months, and doing it every day at day care had worn me out. We did take a stroller and it was perfect for everything except elevators - they are super small and many times we either waited forever to fit on one or broke it down and took the stairs.

*bumping this* I have a really random question pertaining to this thread...

Do the staterooms all have individual thermostats (like a normal hotel room)? I, for the life of me, cannot remember from previous cruises. But I'm wondering what type of pajamas to pack. Cotton footie, short sleeves/shorts?

Having a kid really complicated my vacations. :earsboy:

Yes they do.
Although there are no set numbers on them, only "cooler" and "warmer" than the ambient temperature set for the passageway outside your room.

Thanks! :) Love that you even have a picture of this.

Last time with my 10 mth old and 3.5 yr we had late dining. I booked my 10mth old in the nursery every night for dinner. She would nap usually between 2-4 in the afternoon, While she was sleeping I would order some room service a snack to hold us over and dinner for her and whatever milk I would need for the night. This worked perfect for us. Mommy and Daddy had an awesome time at dinner my 3.5yr old would do dine and play and the little one she played in the nursery, the staff at the nursery loved her and gave us a card at the end of the cruise telling us what a pleasure she was.

The dining room would puree food for us to take back to her in case she was hungry and would always grab us some milk to take back to the room.

Definitely ask for a diaper genie and either pack and play or bed rail

This was our best vacation

I just checked us in and booked our excursions and nursery time. For the nursery time during our excursion, I booked it for 30 min prior to 1 hour post excursion---do you think this will work?

Has anyone got a picture of the sofa made up as a bed WITH the bed rail? Interested to see what would suit best. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay here is the pic of my 9 mth old in the bottom bunk with the bed rail

Your picture wants to make me try the bed rail over the pack & play. I just worry about her rolling out! My daughter will be 14 months at the time but she's all over the place in bed. There's no rail along the bottom, correct?

This is so helpful. We are planning a cruise when our daughter is 18m. Although we've cruised before children, I'm a bit nervous.

We sailed on the magic in Europe last summer with our then 18 month old, we had a fantastic time. It was a really easy vacation.

We didn't use a pack and play, we just used the sofa bed and bed guard - created much more room!

Personally I would try to swap to early dining on board, my daughter couldn't have eaten that late and would have been really grumpy.

She loved the shows, on those nights we ate first and saw the first show

We used the nursery for her afternoon nap she was happy there and slept in the cots

Don't stress and, and don't make too many plans just go with the flow!

My daughter was a climber so she was out of the crib at 9 mths ... that being said she did awesome with the bed rail only and it saved us alot of room not using the pack and play ... The stateroom host can bring extra pillows if needed...The only gap is seen in the above picture we placed a pillow there so it wasn't an issue for us ... she moves a lot she went from a crib to double mattress on the floor at home, and we had no issues...The bed its self isn't too far off the floor maybe 1 ft so about the same as a toddler bed ... That being said you know your kids best so do whatever you feel comfortable with!!!
