I am taking my daughter for a birthday visit to WDW. What do people think about crowd expectations for Thursday through Saturday, 12/15-12/17?? One of the CM's told me that they are being swamped with reservations for December and I am getting nervous. I was hoping for average to slow crowds. Any quesses?

I have several friends who are arriving on Dec. 16th and they have told me then when trying to switch reservations around that the resorts are booked solid!!

I was hoping to join them, but decided on Spring Break instead!!

I went around that time last year and the crowds were the worst. MK reached maximum capacity twice and lines for the rides were around 2 hours or more. It turned out to be a nice trip though.

Waahhhhh!!! Boo and Super Hoo!!! We arrive at POR 17th December for 5 nights!!! Rotters the lot of ye ;) How could you want to come near to christmas and fill up all those lovely queues!!

I was there about that time for the last two years, and didn't have a lot of trouble. We avoided EMH parks, arrived early, used FastPass extensively, made PSs (now ADRs) for any restaurants we really wanted to hit, headed back to the hotel during the afternoon -- all those standard recommendations. I'm going again this year too. :D

It does take a lot of planning when you're there that close to Christmas. But you can also console yourself with the knowledge that it would be much more crowded just a week later!

We went at this time last year and the crowds were not too bad until Saturday. We decided to go back this year and we are bracing for large crowds, but we will still have fun!

I'm not too worried. I just made our reservations about a week ago. For a DVC studio, only SSR was available, so that was troublesome. But for dining, I had my pick of times. If it's awful, DD will swim; I'll go to DTD and shop. Guess I'll pack a book, just in case. Here's hoping for low crowds!

I have been trying to rearrange some ADR's and having no luck! The CM's are telling me they are really booked!

We did this time of year about 10 years ago and it was great but I am afraid that it is going to be swamped! :guilty:

I wouldn't worry at all. The dates you have are not during the most crowded days when the MK will close early due to capacity. The 25th is the day you will see crowds pour in. That is when the parks will close early. Your dates will be fine. Not slow by any means, but nothing like some of the posters are telling you. We have been twice during this time and stayed until after the 25th. The week before does not compare in any way, shape, or form to the crowds that will be there starting the 25th. The UG has the peak day of a 10 on the 25th. These are what are listed for your dates. 4 and 6 are not that bad.

We are arriving on the 17th this year. We know we will have to use FP, but by no means will the crowds be like the 25th. We have also recently added ADR's with no problem either. Enjoy your stay. :goodvibes

I wouldn't worry about it. If it will be you and no small children (like 7 or under) I would say...don't fret! You will be in magical place and you'll cope with the crowds easier by doing fastpasses, and just make sure you map out where the most important things are and go do those! I will be there during that time. I have been at New Years (the most crowded) and we had A BLAST even with max capacity!

I share your concerns about the crowds, because we will be there during the same time. The Best Days info seems to show that this week will be less crazy, for the most part than the two weeks prior and the week that follows. I think you and I have hit the luckiest time in the way of having the crowds be as low as we would have expected them to be based on info from the last few years.

My suspicion about the rooms being booked as heavily as they are is largely due to convention traffic. With all the conventions that were suddenly displaced by the hurricanes, I think that it only makes sense that several of them made the quick move to Disney. So, with the conventions, you have booked rooms, but you do not neccessarily have crammed parks.

After reading all the reports of ADR difficulties, it seems that most of those reports are for the two weeks prior to our stay. Yes, "must have" ADR's are gone at this point, but there is still a lot of availablility. I have made a few last minute tweaks to my itinerary without much difficulty.

You and I are going to have to go with a good plan, which I already hopefully have. We will need to use FP as much as possible for the popular rides. It will help if we will arrive at the parks early and tackle the "must do" rides early. I am really looking forward to this trip.

The last time we were there was in December of 2003, during the same week. It was find until the Friday before Christmas and even then it was not that bad, unless you had little kids that just had to ride everything in Fantasyland at 2pm. Basically, there is enough extra pixie dust with the holiday stuff to make the possibly increased crowds become not that much of an issue at all.

Happy planning. Maggie

We will be staying at the VWL from Dec. 16th to 22nd. We are also hoping for crowds on the lighter side. We have all of our ADR's and tours set so we are good to go. I am still trying to figure out if we should go to the MK on Sat Dec 17th or Sun Dec 18th. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I guess the smaller crowds is just wishful thinking. My thoughts were that school would be in its last week of the fall semester and many kids would not be able to miss that time. Also the hurricanes have pushed many school schedules back. :confused3

I'm taking my twins to WDW for their bday the same weekend..

This year will be our 4th year arriving around the 16, 17. We have found the crowds very manageable and even pleaseant up until about the 21, 22. It kind of depends on what day Christmas is. With it being on Sunday this year I can see it being a little more crowded earlier. Anyway, doesnt matter, we'll still have fun! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the replies! I am encouraged by everyone's thoughts, and do agree that planning ahead is vital. When planning this trip I decided to take her out of school for two days (Thursday and Friday 12/15&16) so that we might get a break from the crowds. I was glad to see that those days were rated a 4.

One of my plans is to go to the Magic Kingdom on Friday 12/16. I am thinking that since they are offering the Merry Christmas Party that night (which we will not be attending) that people staying at WDW will choose not to go to the park all day just to return for the evening party. Does that make any sense?

Whatever happens we will still have a fantastic time. I booked a "sleigh" ride through the Wilderness area on 12/15, so that will be a nice new activity. We try to go up every holiday season, but have always gone much earlier in December when crowds were not a concern.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I will be there the 16th-23rd and planned on going to the MK on the 16th (from lunch to around 5) and then again on the 17th. The Unofficial Guide says that Saturday should be ok. I will be travelling with my Mom, youngest daughter and a friend and most of us will not be going on the 'big' rides so the crowds should not interfere with our 'wandering around'.

There is going to be quite a group of us DIS people in MK on the 16th of December!

We will have green Mickey heads on our fammy and back packs! :bounce:

See you there! :wave2:
