Covid Fatigue

I know you're kidding. I wouldn't go right now if they were open. I have no interest in heading to the GTA right now.

What I was getting at is I don't understand why so many come down here. Especially now with nothing open.

This is true
I guess to some a few days staring at the Falls & walks through the Parks, and a Jacuzzi hot tub in room might be attractive ,,,me Naw I can wait. I at least need the Casinos & the new outdoor Go Karts Race Track & Hershey's store to be open,,, not to mention the wineries along the way there. Plus way toooo much community spread right now ,,like I said stay home.

vaccine FAQS
Agree 100% but I wonder if all the miscommunication out there that’s been out there for years ( ex I got the flu once after o got the flu shot type ppl ) would simply ignore any symptoms thinking all good bc they’ve been vaxed.

We seriously considered booking Ontario for Fall to do Great Wolf Lodge, Ripleys, Medieval Times, etc. We are desperate for ANYTHING that resembles a vacation. They keep extending the closures though so we havent.

It’s a new place to walk outdoors. We don‘t want/need to go into any stores or restaurants.

My daughter has been begging me for months to go for a drive to the falls. We’re about an hour and a half away. We’re trying to keep our drives local when we need to get out, but it gets monotonous when you stick too close to home.

Great Wolf Lodge isn't opening until Sepember. I've checked numerous times and even tried booking for last October and they cancelles my booking qnd pushed the opening date back.

Maybe consider the less busy and touristy spots. No one should feel that lockdown means being sentenced to the Kingston Pen in their own home. And everyone needs to get their car out for at least a good 45 min drive every 2 weeks or less. Our cars need to be driven for at least that amount of time to recharge the battery, check the tires and keep that vehicle in decent shape. Go for a drive. And if you can search out a safe place to walk for a half hour or more, do it. Do some research online to see what municipal parks are open to you for long day walks. Traditional vacations may be off the table for some of us. But see what you can do close to home for day trips.

It’s really hard not to be discouraged, I agree. I work for an American conglomerate and they have been business as usual since last June. We are in midtown Toronto and we haven’t actually opened up since last March. We are in a condo building where everyone else is also working from home, and the noise and distractions are absolutely unending. DS has been alternating in-person and virtual school for the past year (and for the past month, since he’s had to self-isolate along with the rest of his class twice now due to cases in his class). We can choose to run/ exercise outdoors, sure- along with literally everybody else in the city, so it’s frankly impossible to carve out even a tiny space for yourself where you can just enjoy your run or your outdoor time without feeling like you are on the New Jersey Turnpike every moment, dodging off-leash dogs, crazy cyclists, and people walking seven abreast so you have to go into the middle of the road to get around them. And, despite soldiering on for over a year now with complete lockdowns everywhere, they are saying that cases are rising. It’s really hard not to wonder why the sledgehammer is the only tool that seems to be available to this situation. Thank you for hearing me vent! I‘ve been feeling so down about the neverending crawl that we are on with this whole thing when other countries are celebrating being near the finish line and we just keep sinking.

This. We've done some day trips just to curb the feeling of being stuck.

Definitely.

But I’m noticing it’s getting harder and harder to find uncrowded areas outside where you feel safe. Most people walking outside or hiking in forests don’t wear masks. Our local trails/parks have been packed since the springlike weather hit. Moreso, than this time last year.

Best to go super early in the morning or after dinner.

Also consider bad weather days. I live in a suburb where if its sunny, the weekend and after 10 am, everyone and their dog, granny and grandkids are walking 6 abreast on the sidewalk. I look for rain days Mon to Fri early in the morning and take my umbrella. Fewer brave souls out in the rain and the cool morning. Fewer times I have to walk out into the middle of the street looking over my shoulder for cars to avoid people on the sidewalk. Less stress and more me time.

I really find it depends on the day for me. I spend a lot of time outdoors for my job and there is never an end to housework and home maintenance jobs to do.. staying busy is not an issue. I’ve been fortunate to continue working throughout.

Last time I saw my parents in person was January when they stood outside for my birthday. That should change now that the weather is nicer but I sure miss family Sunday dinners. All my nieces and nephews are a year older and Zoom calls aren’t the same as hugging a little person . I used to get through rough days by dreaming of vacation but that small coping mechanism is on hold. I miss people and places and choices . I think I’m lonely in a way.
I think the title says it all .. it’s fatigue. This has been a long time to be worried and stressed and anxious. I just want to see that finish line . Some days it feels closer than others .
This is very well put. Dreaming of vacations that feel like they may never happen certainly doesn't scratch the itch and in a way, the hobby-planning I used to do a lot of is just yet another thing lost to Covid. And regardless of what's happened with our restrictions here; whether or not restaurants and stores and libraries have been open or closed, the one thing that has remained constant for 6 months is that we can't be together with anyone not in our own households. Our loved ones are only minutes away, the places we used to go together and the things we used to do are still right here (some open, some not) but yet we might as well be a million miles apart. :sad1:
Another new record for Ontario. Almost 4500 new cases of covid in the past 24 hours. Last year at this time we were on stay at home orders as well. It doesn't feel like it's getting better. They are now talking about bringing in nurses from other provinces that aren't hit as hard. The fatigue is real when even with vaccines things are worse than ever.
We're in a weird place here in Alberta...cases are through the roof and hospitalizations are up but the death count is down and we have not had any significant cases traced to LTC facilities or hospitals for quite a while. We seem to have done will in protecting the oldest and most fragile, as was the intention. Here's the status of things as of today and I also thought it was interesting to see former Prime Minister Stephen Harper publicizing having gotten his vaccination - he is 61 and as of last Monday, is in an age group eligible for the AZ:

That doesn’t always work we went to the park at 745 this am and within ten mins a grandpa with his grandkids I assume showed. I thought no problem large playground , and the kids followed my kids everywhere to the swings to the water .. grandpa said nothing and we had to leave .. sigh . Will try again tomorrow .
playgrounds and parks here are crazy at any other time ..

I think if we saw less hospitalizations and icu cases it wouldn't seem so bad but we have more people in hospital now than ever. There are more younger people (under 59) which I think affects me personally even more because last year the majority of people were older or had underlying health conditions. The variants are changing that.

Yes, similarly, our hospitalizations and ICU occupancy is UP right now but presumably because the average age is lower, the death count is significantly down (single digits per week, instead of per day) over the last month.

Ours are about half per day what they were last year but twice per day what they were a month ago. Yesterday was 21 and today was 19. The numbers are still pretty high. TBH though I've heard some of the stories of the people who have caught it and survived and they aren't exactly living anymore. Life has severly changed for the worse for them and those are not numbers that are being counted.

This is true. The road back from Covid is exceedingly difficult and many patients never completely recover.

You were late. Super early is more like 1am. Lol.

Seriously though, when we go to the track before 6am, the park next to it has families with young children playing as soon as the sun comes up.
