Covid Fatigue

Some promising information from recent Ontario covid reports....

The past several weeks have shown minimal cases in long term care. In the past week there have been 12 cases in residents. Let's compare that to a week in December where there were 327 cases in long term care and a week in January where there were 960. This is a major difference and a really promising outlook.
That's good to see. The concerning thing now is that it's the under 40 crowd filling the ICUs.

Yup, in BC cases/deaths in long term care have decreased by 90% since all residents and staff have been offered the vaccine.

she’d gotten her first shot of Pfizer two weeks before she came down with it.

Covid can take up to 14 days to appear after exposure (hence the 14 day quarantine time). People often have symptoms for a few days before they get tested. So, she could have been exposed to the virus before she was even vaccinated.

I think we need to keep this in perspective instead of doubting the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Omg pls realize how blessed you all are to have a backyard . I would literally give my left arm for my kids to have a backyard right now . We went to the park at 8 this am and by 820 a grandpa I will assume showed up with two kiddos and they followed my kiddos everywhere , we went to swings they went to swings , back to climber they went .. I would assume you show up at 8 you are trying to avoid ppl but nope they simply didn’t get it . We left shortly after . That was heartbreaking drag their little butts outta bed super early drive to a park and have to leave before they were ready ..

I often wonder if you have symptoms shortly after your vax do you unsafely assume it’s vax side effects vs Covid ? So scary

Another new record for Ontario. Almost 4500 new cases of covid in the past 24 hours. Last year at this time we were on stay at home orders as well. It doesn't feel like it's getting better. They are now talking about bringing in nurses from other provinces that aren't hit as hard. The fatigue is real when even with vaccines things are worse than ever.

No one is doubting the effectiveness. Just the FACT is, it's not going to be 100%. Vaccinated people will still end up in hospital and die - even past the two week mark. But yes, I was curious.

That said, there's also the question of being more susceptible to Covid in the period immediately following vaccination, before the vaccine has had time to work. Something people often don't consider. Not such an issue for those with a healthy immune system, but for those who are compromised or not at 100%... Just another reason they want us to keep following protocols after vaccine.

Perspective... how people are still getting sick or dying after vaccinations?

We are vaccinating for covid as we knew it from the start, and dealing with a virus that is constantly changing.
The manufacturers of the various vaccines developed the formulation based on current data and science at the time. They are now working with new information, the variant strains have become the dominant forms of infection in many places. So they are working on updating the formulations and developing booster shots to address the changes/mutations to address the virus’ as they are at this time.

Covid 19 will always be with us in some form, as so many corona viruses are. (flu’s), best case scenario would be that vaccinations will control the spread and like our childhood vaccinations (dptp/mmr/tb etc) we will be looking at periodic booster shots as the vaccine develops and/or mutates to stay on top of or ahead of it.

.... just my opinion from the reading i’ve done 🤷🏻‍♀️

You just have to turn on the radio during the rush hours and drive around to see shopping mall parking lot of Walmart / Costco.

There are traffic congestions and parking lots are still busy. People are still out and shopping.

This lockdown is very ineffective compared to the one last year. With COVID fatigues... we are heading to a community disaster. We will be looking at 5 digits of new infections fairly soon... like next week if people don't care.

IMHO pushing retail to large online shopping warehouses where it has been proven to be a major source of covid spread isn't the answer either.

Hi Hon
I am so sorry,, sometimes people just don't get it.
I know here there are signs up in Parks reminding people to stay apart ,,, but know as an educator explaining and enforcing that with kids is another thing.(Especially if the parent/guardian doesn't get it).
One of my online students (grade 8) is devastated right now that we are having *April Break* .
She lives to visit her Pirate Park (the play structure is a pirate ship design) down by the lake each afternoon. (Mom and the girls live in an Apt with no backyard or playground.)
Well with all the extra kids out of school it is just too busy for her mom (single parent) of 2 daughters dx. with A.S.D. & D.D.
to manage safely on her own.
I have been able to find them a couple of local walking trail that are not too busy and they take a bunch of sport equipment with them.
I live beside a walking trail,, and seriously the traffic has increased 400%. The City has not increased the dog/garbage receptacles either ,,,
Last week I called the City and said you NEED to do something here because it is turning into a health risk ,,,, masks and garbage everywhere.. The most the city did was ask people to stop painting and placing rocks in the forest ,,, duh ,,, the kids love hunting for new rocks everyday.

Is your kids regular school available for use?
Like could you take the kids and use the outdoor play area?
Has the kids resource workers/teachers offered any at home equipment ?
You are entitled to support Hon.
We sent home tons of stuff for our kids,, I am also willing to pick up and drop stuff off at their homes.
We bag stuff --sit it for 3-4 days and then transport.
:mini trampoline
:exercise balls
:hoppers
:stretchy bands
:scoops & balls
: copies of a circuit workout
:Yoga magic mats
Skipping ropes/hula hoops / foam frisbees
: sensory bins galore (my specialty).

I am also going to suggest you contact your local library for any online supports//afternoon book reading club/ story time.
Reach out Hon ... I truly wish you lived closer.

Even our kids that are doing at home learning still have a gym teacher and Spec Ed. Resource staff that still reach out many times a week for online gym/ etc. classes.

The parent I was telling you about is going to try a McDonald's ice cream treat drive and see if the Park is any less busy around
9:30 - 10:00 pm,,, I know it's late but sometimes you gota do what yah gota do.

Ok enough of my rambling on....
thinking of you
Hugs
Mel

Here in Niagara it's not like that at all. For the most part it's been dead every where. The only issue is still people from the GTA coming down to the falls.

I know you're kidding. I wouldn't go right now if they were open. I have no interest in heading to the GTA right now.

What I was getting at is I don't understand why so many come down here. Especially now with nothing open.

Because the falls aren't closed and people need to do something. A walk along the falls is better than staring at the four walls of your house. People aren't meant to do nothing so they are attempting something and if that's a 45 minute drive to something that isn't the same park trail they have access to for the last year amd walked every single day than they will.
