Marathon Weekend 2027

All right, folks! The voting has been tallied and we’re ready to start head to head match ups in March Movie Madness on Sunday. A couple of notes before revealing our qualifiers in each category. First off, a big thank you to @Novatrix for fully embracing her new role as Disney Movie Villain! Secondly, remind me not to do this during registration week next year. Having to sift through 50+ pages of registration posts to find all the votes is no bueno. With that out of the way, here are your March Movie Madness qualifiers in each category:

Disney Animation
  1. Lion King
  2. Beauty & the Beast
  3. Encanto
  4. Little Mermaid
Pixar Animation
  1. Up
  2. Toy Story
  3. Incredibles
  4. Coco
Disney Live Action
  1. Pirates of Caribbean: Black Pearl
  2. Mary Poppins
  3. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  4. Enchanted
Disney Acquired IP
  1. Empire Strikes Back
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  4. Rogue One
One quick note on the results. In the Disney Acquired IP category, Rogue One and Avengers: Endgame actually tied, so Rogue One was advanced based on receiving the most 1st place votes.

I look forward to kicking off the head to head voting on Sunday!

This is a solid bracket! Thanks to you and @Novatrix for your efforts this week.

Thank you @camaker for all your hard work compiling this and setting it up, particularly considering the need to dig through all the registration madness.

To save your future sanity, maybe next year it should be an April Fools Bracket....

I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised that the lists have mixtures of expected as well as surprise picks. It's going to be tough to choose but in the end, like the Highlander, "There Can Be Only One."

Thank you @camaker and @Novatrix !

I was actually thinking about how tough this would be to compile when I saw some SAFD votes coming in on registration day. Maybe next year you add a rule that no votes can be placed on the Tuesday - that way you can skip the whole day.

I think the one that surprises me the most on this list is Rogue One (even though I voted for it). This is going to be absolutely brutal - it might take me right up until Sunday to decide who I'm voting for.

Life’s full of tough choices, isn't it?

:)

Maybe the DisBoards "advanced search" would help in the future? Just search for all posts in this thread containing SAFD after whenever you posted the question

So does it only time out after 10 mins if you don’t register at all? I always thought you only had 10 minutes once you got through the queue. Did I make that up? Can you keep registering people beyond 10 mins? I did get lucky and was able to get registered. I wanted the full + 10k but the full was the priority. I completed the marathon registration first and paid, then went back. I was trying to type so fast thinking the 10 minutes would run out. Is that not a thing?

I'm also not sure about the 10 minute timeout as I feel like I took more than that, but I was active pretty much the whole time. Maybe it's 10 minutes if it detects that you're just sitting on it?

I did 3 people on mine (including myself) and after the 3rd person, when I hit the back button, I got the queue expired need to rejoin message. I'm not sure how long I was in it total (at least 10 minutes) but I definitely didn't leave the page inactive or anything.

My best guess based on all of this is that you have 10 minutes to start any registrations that you want. I did myself and a friend for Dopey first and then went back and registered my kids for the 5K. I didn't want to do it all in one batch out of fear that Dopey would sell out before I got to payment and I figured the 5K would last long enough that I could get the kids in with the second pass.

Anyway the whole process definitely took me longer than 10 minutes start to finish, but I'm pretty sure I began the 5K registrations while still within the 10-minute window. Can't say for certain because I closed out when I was done with the kids, but I suspect if I'd tried to click the back button for a third trip to the well I would have gotten the time out message.

There's a game theory for this, I'm sure, where you are personally incentivized for entering even though it makes it worse for everyone else.

ETA: so in conclusion, we're not hurting ourselves, but we are hurting each other (except that we are also helping each other constructively)

Right, I think the "game theory" would be that you're actively reducing your "expected value" by NOT opening as many windows as possible because everyone else will be. It's like a raffle where you can buy multiple tickets. Net effect is that even though the EV of any given entry is reduced, the sum of a lot of entries is a higher EV overall.

To paraphrase a line from Andor, "rD has made a game of it, and we play."

This is a curiosity question but where do people get an adult beverage during the last parts of the marathon to cross the finish line with it?

Last marathon I got one in Canada, drank some and spilled a lot as I tried to run with it. I got another at the beverage cart after we passed through Creations/Connections passageway just after Club Cool.
I took it much slower with the new full beer and had just about 1/2 left after sipping my way to the finish line.

In exciting news….I bought my very first pair of goodr sunglasses at a running expo today. Guess I’m officially a runner now, huh?! 😂

Be careful, because the coating scratches so easily. I tossed a pair in my running belt and it absolutely destroyed them. Same with salt water. Got splashed, wiped off the water, and the lens was scratched all over.

If nothing directly on the race course appeals to you now that they no longer do a victory lap around world showcase, you could always enlist a trusted spectator to go get you a margarita

Wow!! I haven’t had any problems like that with any of my Goodrs. I’ve run with them in my leggings pocket and in my waist pouch, and shoved them in various purse pockets, and all my lenses are perfect.

It's shifted a bit recently due to the earlier start time of the marathon and the course change. Before 2025 the course ran a full loop around World Showcase so you could get something from any of the countries you passed by as long as they were selling as long as they were open. In 2022 I was tempted to go to Mexico for a margarita but I got there too early so it was either wait for it to open or continue on. Now the course doesn't go by there so you would need to veer off-course or have someone get you one to make it happen.

There's a booth kinda close to SSE that sold Blue Moon when I did it in 2025 and they were open. I think it was also possible at maybe England and/or Canada, since you still pass by? But I didn't see where.

I will 100% do this for anyone who wants one this coming January.
Be careful what you offer. You may very well run a marathon yourself going back and forth to the margarita stand!!

As an aside I saw a lot of runners with beers in AK that they had snagged at Yak and Yeti. For my money there are still way too many miles left at that point to have alcohol running through my system, but I have to admit with the heat that day the beers looked awfully tasty!

I'll just consider it the final element of my Happy Challenge!

At that point in the race it still counts as carbs.
