Most political discussions are noted as such - I don't see the point of creating a sub-board. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the debate board was still up.

Out of 50 thread there are 3-4 right now that are political.

I also think it's a good idea. I know the threads are marked political, but so many of them push other items of interest to further pages where they tend to get lost.

There used to be a sub-board for political discussions. It was called "The Debate Board" but IIRC it didn't "fit" with the rest of the DIS.

I know the threads are marked political, but so many of them push other items of interest to further pages where they tend to get lost.

???? If that's the case, then apparently there are a lot of people who are interested in political threads. And "items of interest" are extremely subjective. Just because they don't interest you does not mean they aren't "items of interest" for some of the other 66,000 of us that share this board.

I opened the thread about the Bush daughters, hoping to find out if they both graduated - it turned into a political thread - guess I should have known better!

(I still don't know if they both graduated from college - I know I heard that the Bushes went to one of the graduations, but never heard about the other daughter's graduation.)

I agree with Galahad ... if you don't like a thread, don't open it. Posters who start debates/political threads have agreed to tag them with "Political:" or "Debate:" to accommodate the demands of the hugs & pixie dust crowd. And this is, after all, the COMMUNITY Board. I thought the welcome mat was laid out for all, even the (GASP!) former denizens of the now defunct Debate Board. Looks like the welcome mat has been withdrawn.

The other side of this is that all of those "other items of interest" push the political threads to "further pages where they tend to get lost."
