Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Have y'all noticed that the "petition against nativity" thread is still going? I thought that horse was dead sometime yesterday, but it still floats to the top of the page. I haven't clicked on it today so maybe they're talking about other stuff. popcorn::

I haven't read any since I put my 2 cents in yesterday. Seems pointless.

Guess what I fonally got today?????

Mmmmmmmmm! And it was every bit as good as I thought it would be!

Hi all, happy Friday! I wanted to thank y'all for your prayers and thoughts. They must've definitely worked, because I woke up feeling much calmer today and have stayed that way most of the day. If you'd keep me in your prayers, I'd appreciate it.

Has anyone else noticed that the actual news that we, as Americans, should be made aware of in regards to That One, is always reported by British journalists, not American ones?
It's quite pathetic. I often find more news items in the UK papers about our government's doings than I do in our own papers here. At least they do their jobs. :sad2:

Bolded phrase is amended to my preferred term for Obama: That One. :lmao: I'm getting my digs in while I can; I'm going to somehow have to force myself to stop calling him (harmless) nicknames come January 20th when he actually becomes President. As much as I loathed Clinton, I never called him names either.

Prayer said. I used to be one of the biggest control freaks ever. I'm still working on it, but here's something that's helped me surrender to God's will...

I would actually visualize the problem or concern, put it in a box, and hand it over to God. This has helped immensely!

 I'll continue to pray for peace for you.
I am one of those very visual people, so that is a very helpful analogy. Thank you, breezy.

I don't know if ya'll ever watch The Soup, but they mentioned that rosie odonnel and babwa wawa were having a feud and asked them to "talk it out", and they put a side-by-side video of a yapping poodle on there. :rotfl2:
I saw that! Hilarious! :rotfl2:

I received this in my email today:

A few good men & one good old man!
God Bless America , our Veterans and Troops.
Thanks for posting this. What a great story. I'd never read it before.

Oh, I forgot! popcorn:: :teacher:

Hey, SD. Wanna hear something that'll make you feel better? I'm drinking out of my Donald Duck coffee mug for you this morning. :goodvibes
That did make me smile, T&G, thanks.

I have been thinking about our country. I am really just trying to get my thoughts together and I thought a discussion would help me define what I am feeling. Not an open debate ( read I have no intent to get the other sides thinking here).

I find myself wondering if God is working to bring about a revival in America. By drawing a definite line between what is Christian and what is not. People seem to want complete separation of the Christian faith and our government. They will most likely get that separation in the next 4 years. Will God choose to use this for good?

What will that bring to our nation? I think more hopelessness. The government - no government - can provide the hope that God can and does offer. Is that the hope and change the people really desire? It is built into humanity to desire God. Will God, by allowing America to detach government from Christianity actually cause the people to desire Him?

Anyone else thinking about this?
Good discussion, and something I've been thinking about a lot lately myself. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing though. I think it will push those of us who are Christians to be more active in church, to join a church if we haven't yet, to live more Christian lives, etc. I was reading a blog of the friend of mine who went to Liberty University last night, and he had a great point about God doesn't elect our leaders, we do, but He is still in control of everything. I don't know how he voted and don't plan to ask, but I thought he had a great point. Even if I don't trust many of our leaders, I will still pray for them and know that God is The One.

Teresa>> the JL needs you!

Everyone... NO, I didn't get an interview, job offer, job... but I did get my acceptance letter to U of Michigan's MA/ED program! I have 15 credits already towards my MA, but with another University. I don't think any of it will transfer, but at least I'll be doing something! I'm going for the Sp Ed MA/cognitive impairment endorsement.
That's great, Debbie! Congratulations! My Master's is an M.Ed. Not the same field, but I have great admiration for those in the Special Ed field.

Like Esther!!!

And I don't think it is an accident that we [the DIS'ers on the con thread] have found each other...:thumbsup2
I'm one of those folks who thinks very few things are accidental, and most things have a deeper point to them. I know y'all have helped me a lot yesterday and today, and brought many smiles and laughs over the last few months. I don't think it's an accident I wandered over to the CB for the first time ever and found an earlier version of this thread.

Check out this conspiracy theory --

Andrew Sullivan, from The Atlantic, STILL believes that SP did NOT give birth to TRIG!!!!!! Seriously!

I read it. So many unkind things I'd like to say. But I'll settle with I hope this man is never on the receiving end of such nonsense drivel. Don't think he'd like that very much.

Zip! All kidding aside, I'm with Breezy on this one -

and, speaking of Breezy, I've had a hankering for a chocolate-minty dessert ever since she posted all those peppermint bark pictures. So I found a chocolate-minty dessert --

They look awesome! I shall make them for Christmas. :goodvibes I've made a yummy pumpkin sugar cookie the past few years too. Very simple: You just buy a log of sugar cookie dough, roll it out flat, and then spread pumpkin pie filling (any kind) on top of it. Then you roll it back up into a log, cut it into cookie slices, and bake accordingly. The pumpkin should make a pinwheel pattern if you roll it correctly. :cloud9:

Well, my neighbor said something that struck a chord with me and actually helped draw me back to Christ. He said...

"One doesn't usually seek God when they're at the top of the mountain."
So true.

I certainly had that text in mind when I used the sheep imagery. I also was thinking of Ezekiel 34:11-16
Zip, that's amazing you mention that. Ezekiel 34:16 has been one of my favorite Bible verses since high school.

Did y'all see this linked on Drudge? That's H's chief speechwriter on the left, groping the Clinton cardboard cutout. I won't post the pic but here's a link.

Do you think he'll pass the vetting process? :lmao:
 Nice to see sexism and stupidity is alive and well. :sad2:

Talking about problems, just to avoid any unpleasantness, this is the Conservative thread, isn't it? It is not the Conservative Christian thread or the American Conservative Christian thread, is it?
As an Englishman who is a staunch Conservative, very pro America and a dedicated atheist I feel quite at home here except for the overtly "God is good" stuff which I can quickly jump over. However, I am extremely interested in religion from its historical and sociological perspectives so I am keen to get involved with discussions on the origins of religion. I will leave the touchy-feely stuff to those who get something out of it.

ford family, of course you are welcome here. It is the Conservative thread, but many of us are Christians, so it comes up from time to time. Please don't think those of us who do talk about it don't want you here. Not true at all. And I think it's great to have a conservative from another country here. I am mostly of British descent myself, actually. And I enjoy reading your posts and perspectives on American politics.

Oh, I thought I'd share my favorite Christmas present ever with y'all. My dad gave it to my mom last year, and the reaction was priceless.

The thing is over six feet tall!
Who the heck invented something like that? And why? :rotfl:

I can see you've never tried MY chicken salad LOL!
Wal-Mart's grocery section has an actually quite yummy white meat chicken salad. It's the only kind I like, actually. Too bad I hate Wal-Mart! :lmao:

So, I was just wandering around the mall (while I should have been studying for finals, lol) and saw someone wearing a t-shirt that set my gag reflex off rather badly. It had a picture of The One on it, with the Presidential Seal framing him like a halo. Has anyone else seen this monstrosity?

that is vile.

that is vile.

I had some baseball pictures developed recently, and I noticed a similar shirt on a fan a little ways in front of where I was standing to take the picture.

Not exactly what I was expecting when I opened the envelope up and started to look through pictures I took of the field and stadium. :rotfl:

ugh. maybe you can photoshop it outta there. makes my flesh crawl.

Woohoo!!! :cool1: :cool1: DH just told me that we will be making a day-trip to MK during our 2009 Florida trip. I am sooooo excited. I didn't think that I'd see the inside of Disney Park again for a few more years. (We put an addition on our house, so not a whole lot of spare change for Disney.) I have a Disney Parks sound track that has the background music from the various attractions. I love listening to the Haunted Mansion track. I can picture riding the ride while listening. :lovestruc

Did it cross the road??:confused3 :rotfl:
If it did, I don't think it made it to the other side. :lmao:

That's great! I hope you have a wonderful time! :cloud9:

Congrats to you Debbie on the grad school acceptance!

SD - glad you are having a better day!

T & G - Still holding out for your WDW trip!

MickeyMedic - WHOO HOO for MK!!:woohoo:

The CB seems a tad, dare I say it, boring, these days. I can't help but wonder if the OS is watching and waiting for the disappointment and just staying quiet? Glad the sore winner-itis has calmed down some.

Sure glad we have all found each other. This thread is fun!

And Breezy - I'll take your chicken salad recipe anyday!! I bet its YUMMY!

OK gotta change the laundry around and put dinner in the over. Talk later.

If you believe in the devil, and think he would be so inclined as to read on the DIS:lmao: , then he must be getting quite a chuckle from that nativity thread. :rotfl:

Congrats Debbie! Do you have to drive to Ann Arbor or is there a satellite near you?
For what it's worth, I'm not big on discussing religion on-line either (I refuse to debate on the topic), but I too don't mind an intellectual query into the role of religion in society. In the case of our Founding Fathers, I think they're a bit of an ink-blot test... you see what you want to see. I don't think they, as a group, were either a bunch of Christian zealots nor were they Deist/Unitarian/atheists who at most thought there might some unknown, un-named, "higher power" out there somewhere.

Don't sweat it... the conversations ebb and flow. The next thing you know we'll be swapping chicken salad recipes!
Ain't that the truth. I think that's why I like this thread (and the people) so much - we talk about everything. It's a fun thread!

Breezy - I'd love your chicken salad recipe.

Barf. Hubris, anyone?

He's going to have a big, big fall....

But for me, God alone knows how they're going to turn out. :lmao:

Ok, chicken salad recipe coming up....but I have to warn you that you may not be able to eat any other chicken salad after this one :snooty:

Forgive me for not just cutting and pasting, I've tweaked this recipe for awhile so I don't know how to write it in recipe form.

BTW, I usually double or triple the recipe so you can do so and it will still come out good.

-3 or 4 cups of chicken breast (I cook my own every time covered in chicken broth til tender and juicy - don't under and don't over cook! I take it out of the cooking broth and cut it then in cubes - but I shred half of it so there's texture and the mayo holds better. I think this is what they mean when they say "the love" in a recipe, or it's my OCD....I'll pick "the love" ;) )

-2 T diced green pepper (teeny tiny pieces)

-2 T diced celery (teeny tiny pieces)

-2 T sweet onion (teeny tiny pieces)

-juice of 1 lemon (fresh only)

-salt and pepper to taste

-mayo (real Helmans. and I usually have a "feel" for how much is enough, but I'd guess about 2/3 cupish - enough to make it come together, but not enough to overpower the flavors)

-1/2 to 1 c. red grapes halved (I only use grapes, but you could use mandarine oranges, walnuts, or any combination of the three)

Ok.....

so, cook the chicken and while it's cooking dice all the veggies. This part's important - dice chicken warm and mix with veggies, salt and pepper and lemon juice (the warm chicken helps bring out the flavors of the veggies IMO). Let cool in fridge for a couple hours then add mayo and grapes. Mix well.

I serve mine in lettuce wraps, mini-croissants, or just dish it out. (ok, I'll confess - I've been known to put it on a dish and scoop bites of it with potato chips, delicious but sinful!)

Happy Friday! :)

I've been frantically getting ready to have family over tomorrow to celebrate DD's 5th birthday. My baby will be 5! It's a happy/sad feeling. I tried to talk her into staying 4, but she didn't buy it! :lmao: Ok, is anyone else insane like me-we're having family over tomorrow and some of her friends over on Wed. (her actual birthday). 2 birthday parties-I need to be committed! :upsidedow

I need lots of happy thoughts...I'm going to attempt to decorate a cake to look like Rocket from Little Einsteins. My cake decorating skills are mediocre at best, but I found a guide online that tells me how to do it. If it all flops, I did see ready made cakes at Super Wal-Mart today that I can scoop up!

All Conservatives are welcome here! :thumbsup2 I am a Christian, and that may come through in my posts, but I don't mean to run over anyone with my beliefs and I do enjoy discussing the Bible and issues of faith in a friendly, non-confrontational matter. For that matter, I'll throw my 2 cents in on pretty much any topic, whether I know about it or not! :rotfl:
