Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Happy Friday! :)

I've been frantically getting ready to have family over tomorrow to celebrate DD's 5th birthday. My baby will be 5! It's a happy/sad feeling. I tried to talk her into staying 4, but she didn't buy it! :lmao: Ok, is anyone else insane like me-we're having family over tomorrow and some of her friends over on Wed. (her actual birthday). 2 birthday parties-I need to be committed! :upsidedow

I need lots of happy thoughts...I'm going to attempt to decorate a cake to look like Rocket from Little Einsteins. My cake decorating skills are mediocre at best, but I found a guide online that tells me how to do it. If it all flops, I did see ready made cakes at Super Wal-Mart today that I can scoop up!

All Conservatives are welcome here! :thumbsup2 I am a Christian, and that may come through in my posts, but I don't mean to run over anyone with my beliefs and I do enjoy discussing the Bible and issues of faith in a friendly, non-confrontational matter. For that matter, I'll throw my 2 cents in on pretty much any topic, whether I know about it or not! :rotfl:

Awww...Happy B-day to your DD :cutie: . And good luck with the cake and parties. :thumbsup2

breezy, that does sound good. Sadly though, I'm allergic to pepper. :guilty: How do you think it'd come out without the diced green pepper and the "regular" pepper?

Mikelly1221, I hope you have much success with the cake. I'm sure it'll be fab. Good luck with the parties, and Happy Birthday to your DD! :wizard:

I think it would be great! The most important thing is the lemon - you can't leave out the lemon.

I also would not increase either of the other two veggies to compensate - it'll be fine with just the ommissions.

In fact, you might want to dice up very finely some of the celery leaves for an added boost of flavor since you're leaving out the green pepper.

And Deists?

The point being made, in my view erroneously, was that, to the Founding Fathers, Christianity was universal and homogenous and that such historical authenticity should bolster modern Christians as their beliefs are attacked by others today.

Deists still believe in God. They had many names for Him, such as Providence, Necessity, the Supreme Architecht, etc. But the concept of one God is still there, and it was, at least at that time, the same Jedea/Christian God worshipped in Jewish Synagogues and Christian Churches.

Content to agree to disagree. The problem with historical nuances is that they are too far back to gauge at all accurately.

Talking about problems, just to avoid any unpleasantness, this is the Conservative thread, isn't it? It is not the Conservative Christian thread or the American Conservative Christian thread, is it?
As an Englishman who is a staunch Conservative, very pro America and a dedicated atheist I feel quite at home here except for the overtly "God is good" stuff which I can quickly jump over. However, I am extremely interested in religion from its historical and sociological perspectives so I am keen to get involved with discussions on the origins of religion. I will leave the touchy-feely stuff to those who get something out of it.

For me, I just found the conversation interesting.

My point wasn't, however, how it relates to today, I just get so tired of hearing that God was never in the minds of the Founding Fathers, that's why they put in the seperation of Church and State.

Has anyone heard from Bella lately? I haven't "seen" her in awhile, and I'm starting to get worried....:worried:

Hi guys! Guess what I did today? I bought our Disneyland park hoppers for next month and printed them out. I had to admire them for awhile before I folded them up and put them in my wallet with the rental car and condo confirmations. :cool1: Definitely feels real now that I have the tickets. I'm so excited!

Didn't she stop by the other day? Or was that someone else with a Belle-like name in the title? nanner is MIA too. I hope her aunt is okay. :sad2:

Good suggestion about the chicken salad changes, breezy. Will have to try it soon.

Here's some more "Can't have a Christmas tree because it's offensive" news, this time out of UNC at Chapel Hill.

http://www.wnct.com/nct/news/state_regional/article/unc-chapel_hill_library_drops_christmas_trees/25512/

So why not add symbols of other religious holidays, rather than banning a tree that, according to another article, around 12 people total complained about over a period of years? That's the appropriate solution. But no, can't have a tree anywhere because it offends about 0.0025% of the people there. That's why this stuff makes me so mad. It's not about embracing all faiths for most of the people who do things like this. If it was, it'd be about having other symbols put up. I think that's a great idea, personally. But what this is really about for many is squashing all reference to any religion at all. :sad2:

I know exactly what I think, although I have no proof. I think this has the mark of a former leader of my alma mater all over it. He's teaching at this university now, and this is exactly how he operates. True to form, he is an ex-ACLU lawyer. He dragged my school's name through the mud with his actions and cost us a lot of money. Here's hoping my gut suspicion is wrong and he doesn't plan on making them look like a joke just like he made us look like.

:yay: I'm glad for you, Michelle. I hope you have a fabulous time.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :thumbsup2 It is frosted and I'm walking away from it for the evening. DH came in when I was getting stressed and helped-what a great guy!:lovestruc

It will need a bit of touch up tomorrow, but it's done! Kids are in bed, and I can enjoy my adult beverage!

Ok, chicken salad recipe coming up....but I have to warn you that you may not be able to eat any other chicken salad after this one :snooty:

Forgive me for not just cutting and pasting, I've tweaked this recipe for awhile so I don't know how to write it in recipe form.

BTW, I usually double or triple the recipe so you can do so and it will still come out good.

-3 or 4 cups of chicken breast (I cook my own every time covered in chicken broth til tender and juicy - don't under and don't over cook! I take it out of the cooking broth and cut it then in cubes - but I shred half of it so there's texture and the mayo holds better. I think this is what they mean when they say "the love" in a recipe, or it's my OCD....I'll pick "the love" ;) )

-2 T diced green pepper (teeny tiny pieces)

-2 T diced celery (teeny tiny pieces)

-2 T sweet onion (teeny tiny pieces)

-juice of 1 lemon (fresh only)

-salt and pepper to taste

-mayo (real Helmans. and I usually have a "feel" for how much is enough, but I'd guess about 2/3 cupish - enough to make it come together, but not enough to overpower the flavors)

-1/2 to 1 c. red grapes halved (I only use grapes, but you could use mandarine oranges, walnuts, or any combination of the three)

Ok.....

so, cook the chicken and while it's cooking dice all the veggies. This part's important - dice chicken warm and mix with veggies, salt and pepper and lemon juice (the warm chicken helps bring out the flavors of the veggies IMO). Let cool in fridge for a couple hours then add mayo and grapes. Mix well.

I serve mine in lettuce wraps, mini-croissants, or just dish it out. (ok, I'll confess - I've been known to put it on a dish and scoop bites of it with potato chips, delicious but sinful!)

This sounds really good!

Happy birthday to your daughter, Mikelly!

Why is that so funny? It's not like SP wanting the job or anything. Now, THAT'S funny.

That is great! I'm thinking of going into Special Ed, myself.

Special Ed. is cool! :thumbsup2 I had my LD and gifted licenses, as well as an M.Ed...than I decided to be a stay-at-home mom! :rotfl2: DH still gives me a hard time for all that education and $$. Oh well, I get paid in many other ways being with my kids...:goodvibes :goodvibes
