Concierge/Club Level Information - Part II (Sept 2009)

After looking just about every day since the discounts were released finally found monorail club level availability for our dates in December. Yippie! Now, I've just got to choose between Grand Floridan (Sugarloaf) or the Polynesian. (Contemporary not available.)

I even made a pro-con list and still can't decide. One minute I'll think Polynesian for sure and the next it's definitely the Grand. It's our family's first trip to ANY Disney resort, and my son's first trip to the parks. He is a very active (non-napping) preschool who is beyond excited about two things: the monorail and the fireworks, in that order. This trip is all about our son (can't wait to see him at Disney!), but husband and I enjoy a bit of luxury on vacation and some nice dinners out. As we're warm-blooded Southerners with our own backyard pool, swimming probably won't be a factor (December trip), barring extraordinary weather. We will have a rental car, if needed. Advice on property and club level perks much appreciated.

Having just returned from the Poly CL, I can't recommend it enough! The 2 things that are important to you, monorail and fireworks, are truly magical from the Poly! You can walk to the front of the resort for the TTC to take the monorail, or take the monorail from the Great Ceremonial House. (I love 2 choices!) As far as the fireworks, you can watch them from your room if you have a theme park view, or if you have a garden view, you can watch from the lounge or the beach. They pipe in the music. Even though we were in our jammies during the fireworks, it was close enough and I still cried during Wishes! We have stayed at the Poly 5 times, but this was the first time Club Level. We enjoyed everything about it so much, that it will be a yearly thing now.
I'm wishing that we were still there!

Thanks. I actually made a Polynesian reservation for pretty much all the reasons you listed above, but am still waffling about changing to the Grand. My main concern with the Polynesian are some reports I've read about shoddy room condition ... That makes me nervous. Of course, I've read as many rave reviews as I have criticism, but I know a dirty, worn out room (especially for the money we're paying) is something that will bother me.

Even though this is our first trip to any Disney resort (or maybe because of it), and our first trip to Disney at all in the past 15 or more years, I've been all over the map. First I booked Animal Kingdom Lodge and then I started reading the guidebooks and ruled it out because of location, switching to the Polynesian. Then I found this forum and started reading bad Polynesian reviews and, when the new discounts came out, switched to the Yacht Club, which is where my husband and I always said we'd stay if we ever did a Disney trip. But then I was fretting about not being on the monorail and, voila, we're back at the Poly and still pondering the Grand. My husband thinks I need a Disney intervention. ;)

I also just returned from Poly CL and it was just amazing! Food was great, service was great, rooms were very, very clean. They just cleaned all the carpets in the Hawaii LH and are refurbishing all the furniture!

We enjoyed breakfast 5 out of 8 mornings at the CL, popped in for soda, water, wine and beer whenever we spent time in the room or at the pool.

Enjoyed appetizers every evening, they were plentyful, I met the Chef and he was so nice and explained all his dishes and asked you to try and even asked you to take more.

Will be sending a email to WDW praising David in CL, he was excellent! Also Conceirge helped my husband order flowers as part of my anniversary suprise, they were beautiful

We bought MNSSHP tickets through them last minute.

It was so nice having the packages brought to our room daily after purchasing them in the park instead of waiting in line at Boutiki!

On the morning of our check out they sent the club car to take all of our bags and packages out to our car and load them, outstanding!

My DH and I cant wait to go back, it was simply amazing!

That's so wonderful to hear! I think we were in the "we're worried" group together, if I recall correctly, so hearing your rave is great news.

Anything else you want to share (here or in the Poly thread) I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again "bluejasmine" ... I am feeling better already.

The rooms at The Poly were extremely clean! I'm kinda picky, and the room we were in was very, very clean. Turn down service was great too! Very nice!
:sunny:

I really don't think you could go wrong with the Polynesian. (I can't believe I'm trying the Atrium Club next month because the King Kamehamehaha club lounge is such a great location with the "right on" view of the castle.)

I've always loved the food in the lounge there as well. I think you will have a great time!

Emailed IPO for Beach Club this morning and heard back in under an hour. They were able to secure a reservation at V&A (along with dealing with some minor changes in the time along the way), place for the kids at Sandcastle Club, and add DME to my reservation all within a short time frame. Terri also gave me some ideas for other things to look into during our stay. Great start so far. I am curious about how long it would have been to hear from them had I not contacted them first, and I have not received any intro/ welcome to club level letter that I think I received on prior CL stays at AKL and WL. Is there a typical intro email that goes out?
Now to look at what other ADRs and activiites we want to do during our stay!

YC CL? Worth it? can anyone tell me what the garden view rooms look at?! May be giving up a water view to go CL. any thoughts?!

I am sure you will enjoy staying up there and what's great about their lounge is that you get a full view of the whole Magic Kingdom.

Looking at your signature, it seems you are doing a split stay with Contemporary CL? If you are starting CL, then definitely go ahead and stay CL at Yacht Club. You won't want to go back from CL, even for lack of a view, IMHO.

We are now about 20 pages away from when this thread will be closed.

It's time to start thinking about the next one - Part 3.

I'm asking if anyone reading this would like to take over as OP for the next thread?
:flower3:

Nah, just copy and pull forward. You're doing a fine job!

Frustration...can I vent?

So I sent off an email to Poly IPO responding to the Alhoa email. Had a few questions. Does it ever feel like they don't "read" your email? The responses I got to two of my questions were generic and did not at all answer what I was asking. So now I have to send off ANOTHER email asking my specific question again. Somehow I think I had this run-around last year when we stayed at Poly.

Ok, vent over! :santa:

While I didn't have that issue this year, I have in the past and I can empathize with your frustration. And to answer your question, I agree, sometimes I think they don't even read the e-mail. They simply see key words and find the standard prepared response letter. Very aggravating indeed. :headache:

Oh my gosh! I can hardly believe it's almost here! We check into the Poly 1 week from tomorrow after 4 days at AKL. I got my CL welcome letter yesterday.

What CL letter? I am staying CR CL the beginning of OCT and have yet to receive letter, email...nothing.

Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one...although I did get two responses today to my reply email asking the specific questions again. The original IPO CM gave me the best response out of both...I'm thinking she saw I wasn't getting my answers ;)

Here is the standardize email I got from Poly CL IPO:

I upgraded us to Poly Cl last week and received the email Sunday evening. If you haven't heard from them I would mail them and introduce yourself. Their email address is on page 1 of this thread :goodvibes.

We haven't got any welcome letter from the Contemporary IPO in along time and our most recent stay there was last month, with no letter. So my best advice is go to 1st page of this thread, find the e-mail for the Contemporary IPO and send them an e-mail telling them about your upcoming stay and any ADR's, requests and etc they can make for you.
