Comparing Mickey's "Fun" Wheel

Mickeys wheel of death and the swinging dragon thing are equally horrifying, especially if you go on it with my DH who swings it even more.

Yes, there are 2 lines. And the non swinging actually go higher than the swinging ones when they are at the top.

I'm sorry my post didn't make more sense. It is 2 full turns around the circle. The "Swinging" or "sliding" action happens twice on the way up, and twice on the way down, so 8 times total on the ride. Some of them are more intense/swing more than others.

I LOVE roller coasters of all kinds but will never do the swinging cars on MWoD again! Lol. And we only did one rotation when we went.

So, it feels like those ship rides for maybe a second... but then when you think you're going to stop swinging... you just keep going. I have mixed feelings about the swinging gondolas... The first few times I enjoyed it, it was something new... my brother got sick, he didn't throw up, but he felt as if he would. My last trip there, I got motion sickness, which I hadn't gotten before. So, that made the ride way too long for me, and I felt horrible. Still no throwing up though (thank goodness!)

I think you should try it so you can experience it, but before you go on, pop some dramamine ;)

Wait those things don't have lap bars? Just a quick question those things can't go upside down right (has been of swinging ferris wheels with the capacity to do a complete circle but they had lap bars).
Been a looong time since I took physics but I think the design of the swinging gondolas is such that being upside down is impossible. I think it's also extremely unlikely for any of the carriages to swing past 90 degrees. The good news, or bad, depending on your perspective, is that having that knowledge in no way ruins the sensation of the swing. I'm sure even if I sat down, pulled out old textbooks, did the math and was 100% certain of the swings' operation, it would still feel like I was in a death trap on the bigger swings, it's just that intense.

I have noticed a pattern that the younger kids love them while the parents don't. I'm 14 and LOVE Rollar Coasters and the Pirate Ship things. Part of me wants to ride and the other part thinks its a bad idea. Should I ride it?

My problem is the lack of seltbelts and the free fall sensation, which can be really bad if your car has a lot of weight and you topple on top of each other! Tried it once the year it opened and again 2 years ago - won't do it again!

Mickey's Fun Wheel is awesome!

However, I can completely understand people's reactions because this ride completely draws upon one's own personal psychological fears. The height plus the lack of restraints plus the inconsistent rocking motion lends itself to people feeling completely out of control which in and of itself can be more terrifying then any roller coaster in the world.

Personally, I love rocking the crap out of the car when riding devices like this because it really gets the adrenaline flowing. :thumbsup2 Then again, I love four wheeling in my Jeep on 13,000 foot shelf roads in the Colorado Rockies where one misplaced tire can result in certain death.

Now this is a thrill ride.

Gotta do it at least once. I say Go for it! :thumbsup2

I love roller coasters and even love scuba diving, jumping out of planes, and bunjee jumping. And riding the rocking cars on Mickey's Fun Wheel is right up there on the scary factor! :scared1: :joker: Our whole family loves it though. It's a trip!

I'd have to agree with that. But ultimately, it's totally enclosed and safe, so you just remind yourself of that when you ride. :thumbsup2

Definitely try! I think you'd be disappointed if you didn't at least try the swinging cars once.

You should give it a whirl at least once.

As a kid I loved most rides. As an adult I am more cautious (or is it wise?). ;)

Four of our party rode the non swinging, and I was lucky enough to ride the swinging gondola with my daughter and BIL. Guess where I would have rather been?

I never get sick on rides, and don't get scared. I will ride anything.
Mickey's Fun Wheel is a misnomer, it was the most terrifying ride I have ever been on. I could not wait for it to stop, and I kept a tight grip on that little white bag they have in the cars. We rode with two other women, and one of them said "please don't tell me you will actually use that." Well, if I am going to hurl, I would rather do so into the bag than all over the people in the gondola.

It earned the name Mickey's Fun Wheel of Terror from myself, and my husband who was in the stationary gondola. (he doesn't like heights, and my other BIL kept stomping the floor of theirs to scare him)

The cars on Mickey's Wheel of Death have no lap bar, no seat belt. I think that's part of what makes them so scary! You feel so vulnerable!.

hmmm...I think the scarier thing is being up so damned high while being given ample time to visualize your own death while trying to decide if you would remain conscious the entire time you're falling in a cage made of solid steel into a shallow pool of water.

I don't understand why they have barf bags in the swinging cars but they do not provide clean underwear. Disney would regret that oversight if I ever rode in a swinging car. Which I will never, ever, ever do.

I didn't know what ride the OP was talking about. Mickey's "FUN" wheel?? And then I realized, "Oh! Mickey's Wheel Of Terror!!". My DH and sons LOVE fast and scary rides. When they got off, they said "No Way!! Never Again!!"

OP, you may love it, try it if you think you may like it! You'll never catch me on it though. Or the scary looking swings!!

I suffer a bit from motion sickness, but I can do most of the coasters without problem, except the spinning coasters (like Nemo in Disneyland Paris).
On the swinging gondolas i got sick, never again!

It's not thrilling, for me, but the sickness comes when the gondola moves down in one direction and at the same time it swings to the opposite one. It's terrible for motion sickness.

I don't think the swinging gondolas are any more stomach churning than Tower of Terror.

I don't think they're worth an extra 10-15 mins longer in line, though.

I'd rather trust the "safety" of MFW than brave the original Wonder Wheel at seedy Coney Island. That thing is something like 250 years old, and God knows when/how well it's maintained. Now THAT'S scary.

So, I'm gathering that if the Tower Of Terror was the worst 3 minutes of my life (and I've given brith- TWICE!!), the Fun Wheel gondola cars are not for me...
This is good info as we are headed to DL for the first time in December...
