Comparing Mickey's "Fun" Wheel

This thread is getting me excited about going on this ride again as I really dont remeber it being that bad when I went on it 5 years ago, but I love all thrill rides. We will see how the kids like it.

So, I'm gathering that if the Tower Of Terror was the worst 3 minutes of my life (and I've given brith- TWICE!!), the Fun Wheel gondola cars are not for me...
This is good info as we are headed to DL for the first time in December...

:rotfl: YES! I'd take natural labor and the "ring of fire" over the "Wheel of Death" or Tower of Terror any day! I love roller coasters, but no free falls.

However, I do like the swings/orange stinger/whatever it's called now.

I was pretty scared waiting for it,,, but once on it, it was not that bad! Did not hold up to the hype of scariness at least for me! :thumbsup2

Finally tried the swinging ones last time we were there....I didnt think it was terribly scary, but was disconcerting......that being said.llli think we will stick with the non-swinging ones from now on! :)

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I love everyone's description of this ride! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

If I had read this thread before I rode it I probably wouldn't have chosen the swinging car, but I went into it all blissfully unaware. "It can't be that bad" we all thought. 3 out of 4 of us liked it (me being one of the 3). And all 4 of us did it again on our next trip. Time heals all wounds (and scary memories) apparently. Because when DD got off the second time she said "I can't believe you made me do that again!" But then again, she feels the same about BTMRR.:goodvibes

To the OP, don't get psyched out by all of these reviews. If you don't try it yourself you'll regret it. And if you barf, you don't have to do it again ;:rotfl:

Keep the reviews coming! I haven't laughed out loud at my computer so often in my whole life!:happytv:

A photo of myself before the ride really got going, and I truly thought I might have to use the bag.

It so much that it swings wildly (but it does) it's more that there are no seatbelts or bars over you. You get in expecting a ferris wheel ride...and then wham...you can't stay in your seat. And if you have little kids with you, you are just trying to secure them. It was crazy when we rode it a few years ago. I was pregnant and we had a 1 and 3 year old with us. Yikes!

We rode the stationay ones last time and really enjoyed the views of the park and the peak into the yet to be revealed Cars Land at that time.

I love the swinging gondolas! They only swing you a couple of times, but it IS startling if you're not expecting it. If you're in the seat facing towards Disneyland, you'll be facing forward for the first swing, and it isn't as bad. I love to seat unsuspecting people on the backward side and watch them scream! MIL was awesome. I guess I'm just a little bit evil. Muahaha! pirate:

Reading all these responses has made me feel shakey/nervous/nauseous. LOL

I had a minor panic attack on that ride in 2009......and we were in the non-swinging cage. I hated it. I sat out when we were there in May of this year. No thank you!

My teenage girls and I ride EVERYTHING and love it, but Mickeys Wheel of Death terrified us!

The first thing I ask for was the seatbelt, the kind CM said "Oh I'm sorry, you must have gotten the one without a seatbelt" Gee thanks lady!

Then on that first swing I was facing out, so I saw it coming, and once I felt the swing, I was sure our car was going to become detached from the rest of the ride and fling us across the park. I knew that we wouldn't be lucky enough to land in the water, but would land on the Wooden Boardwalk part that is on the way to Screamin!

It was very scary! I AM glad that I tried it ONCE, but will never ride again! My girls feel the same!:scared:

I was scared, scared, scared of TOT.... And then I did Mickey's Wheel of Hell. I actually asked to get off half way through. At least TOT has handles and a seatbelt! I can do any rides, generally, with handles and something to keep me in my place. But the Wheel of Hell.... NO PLACE to hold on, except the edge of my seat (which wasn't very grab-able!). I thought the "mesh" on the sides would be a good place to hold on, but I have short, kinda chubby fingers, and couldn't get a good hold on the wire mesh because of it....

DD's begging me to give it one more try. If I do, it will only be with some calming medicine first to lull me into a false sense of security.

Whoever noted that it's not the ride itself, but the slowness that allows you to think about falling to your death in the metal cage hit it on the head for me. I spent the whole time, every tiny little swingy movement, thinking, "Oh, God, it's going to swing off it's axle, and then it's going to fall down, and since I'm at the top, my gondola is going to hit 4 other gondolas, and then we'll be in the way into Paradise Pier, where those stakes are up for World of Color. What's going to be worse? The concussion from we're hitting the other gondolas, or the stabbing from those WoC stakes, or the drowning in the Pier?" .... and then, you still have to go around again!

ToT and that awful drop feeling was probably at my comfort cusp. I know I'm in no danger but that feeling is almost painful.

The Big Wheel didn't both me at all in a non-swinging car, I found it very peaceful actually. But I'm pretty freaked about the swinging car after reading this thread.

I've never been so sure I was about to die as when I rode the Wheel of Death.

Never, EVER again.

I didnt get on... but DH and his friend did. DH came off saying it was rough but manageable... his friend spend the rest of the afternoon in bad shape. I dont know that it was all the ride, but he was wary of anything else after that

It was so funny bc the first time we went on this we say the options of stationary and swinging. We said why would anyone do stationary so we got on quickly in the swinging line. It was all good with a little bit of motion but when the large slide comes it scares every ounce of liquid out of your body. The kids loved it but DH and I were holding onto the cage. Then my imagination got the worse of me and I imagined our cage coming undone and us falling the the water below.

I got as far as the line to get on...now mind you, I don't like heights but thought I could do this one...oh no way...got as far as the next party to load and told the other 3 I was with there was no way I could do this ride...give me all your stuff and I'll be on that bench over there. Got lots of nice pix of their gondola swinging in the breeze...they got off and told me 'you're right...you couldn't have done that one'. They swore they were gunna die on Mickey's Wheel of Death...more power to those who ride that thing...
