We were at WDW Columbus Day weekend last year. Only for three nights, so I can't say how the crowds were before or after.
Just as an FYI -- last Columbus day weekend they also had a 10k race (WDW Classic).
Just wanted to mention this to you in case this is an annual Columbus Day event that may effect your plans.
