Christmas bonuses?

I am not sure just because the other kids are bad eggs that it makes a bonus deserved. I kind of feel like everyone ought to go to work, do their thing and not worry about what anyone else does or gets. My SIL lives at home with MIL. Free room and board for her and her children. Gets taken on vacation, all bills paid. Am I jealous? Not a chance. Do I think my dh and I deserve more at Christmas? Again, no way. We made our own way. SIL's inability to succeed on her own doesn't impact our ability to do so.

I agree 110%.

I work for a family owned business as well. We have always gotten Christmas bonuses but not this year. Money is too tight and it's important for that money to be used to keep everyone employed as long as possible.

No Christmas bonus here. Our bonuses are in the spring. I hated Christmas bonuses because they made tax planning so difficult. I hated not knowing what my income was going to be until the last minute.

Our bonuses are complicated. Based on your level, you have a bonus target (say 10% as an example). The company has several broad goals (safety record, production targets, spending goals, etc). Based on how the company does against its targets, the bonus pool gets adjusted. So your target might be adjusted up or down. Then, the bonus pool gets allocated and adjusted as it makes its way down the company structure. So if your department was seen as particularly worthy, it might get a bit more and another group a bit less. Finally, when it gets to your boss, she/he can adjust it based on your individual performance.

The company is really tightening its belt for this year as the price for our product is about a third of what it was at its peak. We haven't seen any indication that they plan to cut bonuses for next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

I have worked for non-profits almost my entire adult life. I have gotten one Xmas bonus in that time. I am not expecting one this year -- heck, I was shocked to find out that I am getting a COLA for next year!

When I worked in retail, we had a company rule that we did get bonuses and they were based on the # of years of employment. We got $25/year up to $100.

I have never gotten a Christmas bonus and have never expected one. We do get a performance bonus in the spring only if the company makes a certain amount- we have gotten 3 in the past 15 years.

I consider my bonus being allowed to come in the building every day and work so they will give me a paycheck every other week. Anything above that is a blessing.

Our Fiscal year ends in September so the annual bonus happens to come out just in time for Christmas, but it isn't specifically a "Christmas" bonus. It's based upon the year end numbers and ended up being about a quarter of what we got last year. They didn't schedule a Christmas party this year. I think it's the first time in my 20+ years here. No announcement, just no party.

My dh doesn't get a monetary bonus, but he does get a large gift box filled with company products (he works for a very large manufacturing company).

When I used to teach in a private school we would get a Christmas bonus, the amount would vary and probably depended on how long you had been there and whether or not you were the head of your household (I know, that seems wrong, but the priest was very old school and that's just the way it was). When I worked for the public school I got a mug from the board of education.

Christmas Bonus? :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Lord knows our company has never given them. Never have worked for a place that does. Neither have my parents when I was growing up or now.

DH's company has "profit sharing" that is paid out in late winter/early spring. It's based on performance of the company as a whole and the performance of individual sections of the company. Performance is measured by benchmarks.

Last year, I think the profit sharing was about 5% of DH's base pay. This year, it doesn't look to be that much, but should be more than $0.
