My husband has a friend that would love to take his son to Disneyworld but has always thought that it wouldn't be possible because of the childs severe food allergies as well as other physical problems (deafness being one of them). My husband suggested to him that he could get a resort on site that had a kitchen in the room. Does anyone know if there is a separate number to call to set up reservations for people with special needs? Or does one just call CRO and hope that they can accommodate you? I'm hoping that the experts here can help me out. Thanks

Welcome to the disABILITIES Board.
Here's the number you asked for:
RESORTS/SPECIAL RESERVATIONS
(407) 939-7807 [voice]
(407) 939-7670 [TTY]

If they need accomidations like a roll in shower, tub and toilet with grab bars, TTY or other deveices for the deaf, etc. this number can help. My DD is multiply disabled, but we don't usually get a special room; because she is small, having the raised seat toilet and some of the other wheelchair accessible features isn't necessary for us. What we need is extra room for her to drive her wheelchair in the room. The Home Away From Home Resorts (OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV) all have kitchens in the one and 2 bedroom villas (and Grand Villas). We've never stayed at Fort Wilderness, but there are cabins there which also have kitchens.

You can also request special foods at the full service restaurants with 24 hour notice. Someone also posted this number for the executive chef's office (407) 824-5967, and said the CMs there were very helpful with information about ingredients at different foods served at WDW.

All the sit down restaurants will accommodate special diets with 24 hours notice.
Deafness is not a problem if the child signs as there are interpreted shows and special arrangements can be made for other things such as Hoop Dee Doo. Contact Mark Jones two weeks or more prior to the trip and ask for the schedule for the interpreted shows and any other deaf related needs. He is very knowledgable and extremely helpful
CRO can direct your call to the special needs office. So if you can't
get through directly, then try through CRO. If they cannot get you connected they will have them call you.

We took my DS-age 2 to WDW this past January. He has food allergies to milk, soy, wheat, egg, corn, and life threatening food allergies to all tree nuts and peanuts. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the chefs throughout WDW. It was never a problem eating out with him. Some favorites were CRT-breakfast (he ate the fruit and the chef made him oatmeal with apples) and LTT (turkey, ham and mashed potatoes and a huge fruit platter). I only wish that the restaurants around here were so accomodating. This is what keeps us returning to Disney.

BTW, we started food challenges with him and he's not allergic to corn anymore!!! He did still test positive to milk. We test soy this monday. If I can be of any help with the food allergies feel free to contact me.
