CDC changing requirements tomorrow...

It actually does. I booked some very expensive activities that need to be cancelled more than 48 hours in advance. Everyone's plans are different....:)
So test at 48 and again at 24h. If the activities are very expensive it might be worth the small cost of an extra antigen test to know at 48. If you test negative at 48, chances are exceptionally good that you will also test negative at 24 unless you work in a high-risk occupation.

I am wondering how busy and overwhelmed testing locations will be if this is a go. Travelers needing to test 5 days into their trip, travelers testing to get home. I wonder if this is going to overwhelm labs and getting results in a timely manner?
In theory, if the USA accepts PCR tests at day 5, those of us on week-long trips could use the same test to return to Canada, so in that case, there wouldn't technically be any increase in volume.

If they want the test on day 3, or they want antigen tests, that does throw a wrench in the works for sure.

Almost all of these tests are rapid test, done at a pharmacy here or in the US. Only the Canada return test needs to be a molecular test, and not even all of those need a lab to process (IDNow). As long as pharmacies both sides have sufficient stock of antigen tests, it should not be an issue at all.

For us the 5 days would be the day we were going to get tested anyways.

I hate speculating cause we have no idea if this is even going to happen, or if it will apply to those of us from Canada who are fully vaccinated. But I do know before the CDC has offered “recommendations”. Where they told people they should get a test on certain days. But it’s not followed up in any way. I really doubt they will have any way of keeping track of who is tested when.

How are the 5 day tests going to be enforced. There areany more people in the US than there are in Canada and definitely a lot more travellers.

They have zero enforcement. If I have to do the Covid test a day before or 3 days before, doesn't matter. if you read it, that test after is just "recommended" ..not required.

I’m sure the US would accept an antigen test. And those are really no big deal to get done. It’s really not a huge deal.
It's a big deal for me since I won't have a car, to have to get tested 5 days in and 3 days before I leave. I'm there for 10 days. Hope they don't make the change before Dec 9.

If I had to play a guessing game ( and that’s all this is .. a guess .. nothing more ) I think testing the day before we leave for the USA is going through , the day five testing is “probably” going through, and the 7 day quarantines for travellers who test negative will not happen .

Again .. guesses based on what I think can be realistically enforced and not any official source. My guess only.
