CDC changing requirements tomorrow...

If I had to play a guessing game ( and that’s all this is .. a guess .. nothing more ) I think testing the day before we leave for the USA is going through , the day five testing is “probably” going through, and the 7 day quarantines for travellers who test negative will not happen .

Again .. guesses based on what I think can be realistically enforced and not any official source. My guess only.

i think the day before might happen. I’m not sure about day 5 because I really don’t know who the results would be reported to. I have friends in the US that had a big Easter dinner and grandpa died and there was absolutely no health unit felt of health any sort of involvement. No contact tracing nothing .so I’m really not sure how they would report and follow up in . Public health isn’t as strong as it is here

I posted this in The UK section, but posting here for all you stressed out Canadians

Multiple news sources are now reporting about the changes due to be announced today by Biden

The main focus is on things for Americans in America.
  1. The mask mandates on public transport, airports, planes etc to be extended to March 18
  2. 50 million at-home tests to be sent to 20,000 federal sites around the country to be handed out for free.
  3. People can claim back cost of antigen test from their health insurance
  4. Covid test for arriving into USA changed from 3 days to 1 day before flight.

All the things that people were stressing about, the 7 day quarantine, the 3 to 5 day tests after arrival, PCR tests only before flight ARE NOT ON THE PLANS

How are the 5 day tests going to be enforced. There areany more people in the US than there are in Canada and definitely a lot more travellers.
Exactly. They won’t be.
This - the CDC Attestation already requires a test between days 3-5 for children under 18 who are not fully vaccinated and I haven't seen or heard anything to indicate they actually follow up on it.

All the UK families were stressing about the 3 to 5 day tests for under 18's as here in Europe we have very strict track and trace systems and it is enforced.

However the USA does not have a national track and trace system for all travellers both international and returning USA citizens. Families with under 18's sign the attestation form that they will comply with the 3 to 5 day testing for their under 18's. It is then the responsibility of the parent or guardian to comply and do the tests once in USA.

There is no official information about what type of tests need to be done for the 3 to 5 day testing of under 18's.
There is no official information on where to do the 3 to 5 day testing of under 18's.
There is no official reporting system for the 3 to 5 day testing of under 18's.

IF the attestation form is changed and include that over 18's have to do the 3 to 5 day testing, then it will be the same as currently for the under 18's.

You will sign the form to say that you will test yourself 3 to 5 days after arrival and then it will be your responsibility to make sure you do.

Currently European families are NOT being asked by USA Homelands Agents about the 3 to 5 day testing of their under 18 party members.

All the information, ie the attestation forms are being collected by the airlines before boarding.

Currently European families are either bringing antigen tests from their home countries or getting antigen tests from Walgreens / CVS etc for their under 18's.

European families as far as I can see are not being contacted for proof that they have complied with the 3 to 5 day testing of the under 18's in their party.

When we travelled to California in August, I remember reviewing the CDC requirements then and it said it’s recommended you self isolate in the US for 7 days on arrival. Was it enforced?
Vaccinations changed things since as it’s a requirement to fly to the US now.
I am waiting with everyone else to see what happens, it is quite wild how fast things can change, but in my opinion all the more reason to travel when you can. If you can put up with whatever rules are in place, go. (For me the vaccine requirement and not going to places with really high community spread are important as a side note) - but waiting until covid will be non-issue… Well… might be waiting a long long time. For some of us the kids might be out of the house then. Lol
At this point I just hope they give clear guidelines on what will be happening the next couple of months. Christmas travel season will be upon us soon and if we can’t go, just tell us. Right? We are driving across the land border in 18 days, then flying domestic flights to Orlando, staying 6 days til Boxing Day. What will change for us? What will change for those flying from Canada? Just tell us. We can get a refund for the trip if needed, credits for the flights etc. We also have a cruise from Orlando mid-January…
Mentally, I’m prepared to pull the plug on all of it - we’ll just go as soon as we can after. It won’t be Christmas at WDW anymore, but we would go as soon as feasible.
All this is speculation at this point, but as someone said above - enough to make people fear and doubt their plans. Again.
Boy am I ever glad we did go in August…
I hope it’s all a GO for everyone next couple of months too. I also think I’m going to reserve a car for the trip home just in case one of us test positive down there.

I copied this from the CDC website a few minutes ago. I'm not sure if they are updated yet. If this is so, the test for fully vaccinated is within 3 days of travel. Not fully vaccinated it has to be one day before travel.

Does anyone know if this is the updated version. I have a test booked for Dec 6 afternoon for travel on Dec 9 morning.
ETA-no mention of testing 5 days after arrival.

That's the CURRENT requirements. The new change will be from early next week, so I would expect the CDC website to change and be updated Sunday 5 December / Monday 6 December

No that's the way it was before. Not yet updated to any new changes

Anyone know how quickly Shoppers gets you results for the antigen test? If they change it to the day before I’m just wondering if I should do that the day before or just order the switch health ones?

We waited at Shoppers and they gave us the results in 20 minutes.

I also did one this summer and it was 30 minutes from the time they took it. The pharmacist even set a timer to let her know when to check and I waited. Super quick and easy .

I am glad more pharmacies seem to be offering the antigen test here, even some of the smaller ones (not Shoppers or Rexall). I have tests booked the day before we fly in March, with Rexall, because we needed it for two days before we board a cruise so the timing worked for us. In Ontario at least, check with your local pharmacies if you can't find a spot at one of the bigger places.
Costco, Walmart, Rexall, Shoppers. And results are within 15 to 30 minutes while you wait.

Yeah no worries on Shoppers they are quick. Did it 3 weeks ago and it was 15 mins.

I’m finding it hard to get online appts . I think I need to figure out when each place opens up their dates. I can get Rexall two towns away for the day I need but everyone else doesn’t have schedule open yet or doesn’t offer them .

This should be fairly accurate:
Costco - $16.99 - you can book up to 22 days in advance depending on the location - - https://costcopharmacy.ca/appointment

Walmart - $19.99 - you can book up to 25 days in advance depending on the location - https://portal.healthmyself.net/walmarton/forms/Dpd#/

Rexall - $30 - some locations only have 3 days in advance, others go much further (I booked for mid-March already) - https://www.rexall.ca/covid-19/test...t91s6weTE8tSVmHc_p8o35fLGnzne7M0Bf6tjFbpHhQkQ

Shoppers Drug Mart - $40 - you may be able to book online further in advance. You may only be able to book 6 days in advance (walking in to book or calling) https://covid-19.shoppersdrugmart.ca/en/testing/antigen-screening

Loblaws and related would be similar to SDM. I also got emails from Sobeys that they are offering them as well (call to book)

It is hard to find sites that offer it and have spots available. I would prefer to go back to Costco but they don't seem to offer Saturday bookings very often so I booked Rexall but will keep trying for Costco as it worked really well for us in October.

Shoppers Drug Mart - $40 - you CAN NOT book online at the moment and every place that does testing confirmed you can only book 6 days in advance (walking in to book or calling) https://covid-19.shoppersdrugmart.ca/en/testing/antigen-screening

Shoppers now offers online booking, at least in Ontario, with a fairly lengthy window.

I booked online last week for yesterday and for Dec 23. When we were getting our tests yesterday, I switched the Dec 23 appts to the 24th, just in case. Still lots of availability, got our preferred times no problem. Then again, we might be the only people doing tests at our location, since our pharmacist jokes with us about stowing away in our luggage and remembers that we’re headed to Orlando without prompting.

Side note…the cancel/reschedule links in the automated email Shoppers sends you may not work. Ours didn’t. However, the pharmacy can manually change your appts if you go in or call.

Thanks for the Shoppers link.

Do we assume that it has to be 24 hours before your flight, or simply the day before?

I fly out at 10:30 am, and booked a test for the day before at 10am, hence my question.
