Hi everyone. So I am thinking I want to do the 5K at CC. Here's the thing, I am a walker not a runner. Now I am hoping to work my way up to a light jog, but mostly walk the 5K. Are there a lot of people who walk it? It would be a challenge for me personally to do a 5K since right now I don't walk more than a mile at a shot, sometime 1.5 mi. I am looking forward to see if I can pull it off.

My teen walk/ran it her first time because it was her first race ever & it was really hot that day. All levels are welcome!

We are looking forward to this as well. (Well, I am. Hubby will do it to make me happy. What a guy!)
I care more about the photos ops. Do people mostly run in shorts and a tank? I don't think I want to bother with a running tutu.

I only saw two tutus on my run in March. Mostly running shorts and tank tops or running shirts. I would suggest a quick dry material of whatever style you are comfortable in.

A bunch of people walk- I say go for it. I have run this three times. Never seen anyone in any tutu's or costumes. Basic running attire-shorts, tanks, shirts. As stated, in a material that will keep you cool and is quick drying.

Are there any photo ops?? I thought it was just a basic run down the airstrip and to the observation tower.

I thought there were, but perhaps they are general Castaway Cay photo ops. I tried to Google it, but all the hits are blocked. (I am surprised I can access this site at work. Ssshhhh!)

I think you might be thinking of the general Castaway Cay photo ops, like characters with the ship in the background and Mount Rustmore (the four concrete balls with the characters painted on it)? Those are on the normal walkway from the ship to the beach and accessible for everyone. (And I had to smile at your luck that the DIS is flying under the radar at your workplace!!)

For the Castaway Cay Challenge 5K, in conjunction with Marathon weekend, there were some photo ops with characters but there are not character stops for the regular CC 5K, or at least there have not been when I have done it.

Yes people walk it.

No photo ops I've seen. No, people don't dress up for this. It's a casual fun run and there are no spectators (just other cruisers doing their own thing).

Yes.

But for those unfamiliar, the paid Challenge 5K is done at a separate time (earlier) than the normal island 5K, and you won't accidentally end up in that one. :)

I walked it last year. We had about 20 walkers, and all finished within a hour. It's not a race, but just a fun thing to do, and you'll get a "medal" for completing it. It was extremely hot, but there were a couple of water stations.

You can also walk on the Promenade Deck on the ship. Most that run or walk do it in the morning where they are fewer passengers about, but I've seen people do it throughout the day.

We got our photo with Mickey walking back to the ship to shower and eat. Nothing during the run.

I know this is dependent on speed, but how long should a person plan for a 5k, timewise, if they are running or if they are walking? I know my one son wants to run, but I would walk. It can't be more than a day at WDW, and maybe less stressful. But I don't want to be at it all day, either.

The was a photographer at the finish line at our 5K run this past April. We were able to grab him and get a nice family photo, which I ended up buying. No other photo op's unless, by chance, you run into a character heading back for a shower.

As for timing- my son, who run cross country, finished 3rd, completed it in about 20 minutes. Runners of various abilities came in after. Walkers about 45-50 minutes or so. Some maybe a bit more. Not an all day thing

You kind of have to make your own photo op. Got lucky and saw Captain Hook and Smee as I was getting back on the boat to shower afterwards. There wasn't a photographer there though, just an attendant. Luckily I ran with my phone and was able to get this picture that I really like. This of course was after Hook tried to steal my medal!!!!

5K is a smidge beyond 3 miles.

Even over at DisneyLAND we routinely walked over 13 miles per day (a Half).

I think that most can walk a mile in 20 minutes, so figure on an hour and you should be OK. You also have to include time to meet up for the 5K, get off the ship, and walk slowly with the other runners/walkers to the starting line.

Just under an hour either walking or running.

So, does this run happen at every stop at Castaway Cay throughout the year or is it only certain weekends?
