Carry on size advise

I ordered a nice carry on duffle, and would love to use it on my next trip. My airline gives a carry on size of 24x16x10, thats 50 inches which I think is plenty big. My new duffle is 22x12x12 an even though this is only 46 inches, I am afraid the 12 inch ht difference won't work. Thoughts appreciated.

Is it soft-sided? Maybe you could pack it "out" more than "up" if that makes sense.

The 12 x 12 generally does not work with a limit of 16 x 10 although some airlines grant an exception.

Duffles often give problems because they bulge out in uncanny ways. Better to use a suitcase with rigid dimensions although if you have time to summon a complaint resolution officer if needed, you may get away with a duffle that will at least squeeze or morph into a shape such as the interior of a Size Wize (tm) box that meets the limits.

You'll be fine! I've had carryon bags that were under the total allowable numbers but were longer on one but shorter on another. As long as it falls in that total number you're good to go.

Be careful. Just because a bag's dimensions fall within the limit doesn't mean it will fit in the overhead. If your bag fits the dimensions, but is too high or too long, the bin won't close.
