Capacity Question

I was thinking about this when I was leaving MK on our last trip. It's amazing how slow the parks can be and yet when everyone leaves at the same time, you get an idea of how many people really were there.

Now, if every hotel room just on Disney property was booked, how many people do you think that would be?

I know it would vary with as little as one person in a room with maybe up to 5 in some rooms. I imagine it was this way during New Years 1999-2000.

Anyone have an idea or estimates?

OK, lets say each room has an average of 3 guests in it.
All Stars has 5,760 guest rooms
Animal Kingdom has 1293 rooms
BWI- 378 rooms
BWV- 532 rooms
CBR- 2112 rooms
Contemporary- 1041 rooms
CSR- 1967 rooms
Fort Wilderness- 788 campsites and 407 cabins
GF- 900 rooms
Old Key West- 761 rooms
Poly- 853 rooms
Port Orleans -R- 2048
Port Orleans-FQ- 1008
WL- 728
WLV- 136
Yacht Club- 634
Beach Club- 580
BCV- 205
Shades of Green- 587 and will add another 290 rooms the end of this year
Swan- 758 rooms
Dolphin- no amount listed, so lets just say it is the same as the Swan for arguments sake.

That is a total of 24534 rooms... not counting the new Pop Century or the extra 290 rooms being added by SoG!
then multiply that by 3 = 73602

And that isn't even counting locals and those staying offsite!

If you filled the Disney hotels to the max but the off-sites were still empty you would get a very light crowd at the parks. A light crowd at MK is anything below 30,000 (when it is so you can virtually walk on anything). Many years ago Birnbaum's book, apparently with Disney's permission, actually used to publish average crowd sizes during seasons for MK (that park only). It showed daily sizes of 100,000 for Christmas and Easter weeks, about 65,000 during the summer with 85,000 around July 4, about 55,000 during mid-Feb through April (other than Easter weeks) and anywhere from 25,000 to 35,000 during off-seasons.
