I know several people have reported this in the past, but since the airlines are always changing their processes, I wanted to provide my experience, for what its worth!
I received a change notification this week from Airtran on our one-way reservation leaving Orlando. The new flight times made our travel time much longer than the previous flights. There wasnt another flight on Airtran that we wanted to be put on, so I called to see about cancelling and getting a refund. She processed the cancellation very quickly and said my refund should appear on my credit card within 35 days. No problem at all! Now I have rebooked us on a different flight!
