Cancellation policy for OKW

Hi!
I bought points from someone to stay at the OKW starting on Sunday. Due to circumstances I can't control I might have to cancel or postpone the trip. My nephew, who was going with us, fractured his elbow and needs surgery. Anyway, does anyone know the policy for postponing the trip at this point?

your contract is with them - not OKW nor DVC.

Contact the person you rented from. No-one else can give you more accurate information than that.

Technically, you are not cancelling with OKW, but with the owner of the points. Since that person can no longer get them back on short notice, you will have to deal with them on what happens next. It could be you could reschedule using the holding points that these will be put into, but that can be difficult and tricky and will depend on your contract with the person you rented from.

Canceling a reservation 30 days or less makes the points go into a holding account, which can only be reserved for a stay 60 days or less ahead. They also expire at the end of the member's use year. Did you have a contract with the member? Many members who rent have a no refund policy, but they should try to accomodate use of the points with the holding account rules.

Most owners who rent do so non refundable, hopefully the policy was spelled out up front. Most will also try to reschedule for you within the use of the points which will expire at the end of the use year assuming the actual reservation is cancelled before the day of arrival. And most will allow you to sub rent it though based on the recent thread and info, I suspect that may be changing.

Thanks for all your help! Looks like I'll be going to DW without my nephew, which is what I kind of expected. My parents paid to rent the points, and I told them I would check the policy on this type of thing. I'll have to bring my nephew back something nice.
