Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

I hear a lot of you..we are in the same boat,,dvc member..but it also now gives us the option to explore more places...enjoy the world is large and so many great places..Do all of Canada 1st..different from coast to coast to coast

What options do dvc members have for spending points outside the US? I assume going to one of the international Disney parks is an option (France, Japan, etc), is that about it?

I worry all the time. Some of my favourite travel destinations are in the US. I long for the day when things are like they were in 2023.
Same. Except I live in the US.
(I assume dcx is a typo and should be dvc)

Interval International is best, but not great.

We can use points for some international parks and cruises, but the points requirements are pretty steep compared to WDW and DL. DVC owners would be better off renting out points for the year and using the cash to book instead.

If you go back to the first post, Corey said it is the one time, one thread, that would be allowed to talk about things not normally allowed on the DIS. The topic is will Canadians continue to travel to the US. There's really no way to answer that without explaining why some will not be traveling to the US or even why some will be traveling to the US, without it taking on a political voice. If it weren't for the state of US politics this topic would not exist and it would be moot. I haven't seen much in the way of arguments. It has stayed pretty on topic and civil.
I think it is great that we have this one thread to see how people feel, to check in on the temperature between the two countries. If it gets closed at some point, okay, but it would be a shame.
I think we've done a really good job keeping the temp down in this thread.

While we might mention certain topics we aren't attacking each other. I think that's the difference.
I think a lot of that has to do with a good majority feel the same way. We love Disney but have doubts, worries, curiosities or anger with travelling to the US right now. Even those of us who haven't boycotted going still have concerns.

Anyone else dealing with the same?
I worry all the time.
Yep me too 🙋‍♀️ We have a trip planned for October. Our health is failing and this is likely the only opportunity we'll have to go one last time. That being said, we are fully prepared to cancel at a moments notice if we feel things are becoming increasingly unsafe. 😔

Thanks..corrected,,fat fingers...as pp have said can use by converting to II,,,but we just rent out and take our money elsewhere.

This is the exact boat that I am in also. Not sure if my joints will be able to handle all the rides etc in 5 years time. One last hurrah while I know I can do the rides.

Ditto. I just turned 66, and am in reasonably good health, but there are already certain rides that cause me difficulty. The worst is probably the Matterhorn at Disneyland. (ASIDE: earlier in this thread, I mentioned that i was 67, but my youngest daughter pointed out to me that I am only 66. I remember, back when I was a teenager, making fun of my Dad because he never knew how old he was. Now, I've turned into my Dad, dagnammit).

I see from your signature that you'll be going to Disney World for Christmas. I'm fully in support of a boycott of US tourism, but since I have a daughter currently working at Epcot, and she can get us into the parks for free for an incredible 16 days in 2025 and an additional 16 days in 2026, we'll almost certainly be making two more trips during the next year, with our next trip taking place during the last half of Dec. We will certainly be blocked out of Magic Kingdom for most of our Dec. stay, but I'm hoping that we can get into at least one of the other parks each day during the busy Christmas season. But, if we are blocked out of the parks, there are worse ways to spend the Christmas season than sitting at a table in Port Orleans French Quarter eating beignets. At least there won't be any snow on the ground.

We just booked a preferred room for January using the Canadian deal at Movies.

We live in Windsor and border Detroit. Haven't been to the USA since January when I used to go shopping there monthly. On one hand, I dont want to support the USA and give them my money. On the other hand, I dont want the orange cheeto making my decisions and my son will only be 3 once. I'm sure we'll have a good time but it's a weird feeling right now.

As an American, I completely agree with you.

Those kid years fly by, and I would never let that Giant Orange Fool get in the way of making vacation memories.

As a dual citizen of Canada and the USA I have been following this thread with conflicted feelings. While I have been a full time resident of the US my entire life, I have spent considerable time in Quebec over many years. I understand the angst that is being felt by many Canadians and it is completely justified in many instances.

It saddens me to read about people not doing what they want to do, traveling and creating memories with their families over fear. I know for some these decisions are made based on principle and others there is some fear and principle. To each their own and and people need to trust their instincts and do what makes them comfortable.

I would encourage those who are mostly making their travel decisions based on fear that most things are never as bad as you might fear they are. Crossing the border is no different today than it has been in recent years. The day to day life in the US is no different than it has been. We live in a very polarizing world. Information and selective information is presented to us through more avenues than ever before. Everything we see or read has an agenda. Very little is presented in an unbiased angle no matter who presents it.

Life is relatively short. Live it to its fullest. I fully respect those who stand on principle but want to encourage those who may be paralyzed by fear.

Another data point… I’m at Disney World right now. Flew out of Pearson with our Nexus card. Only question we were asked was if we had anything to declare.

And all the reports of Disney World being “dead” or “empty” are not true. Busy as ever here and it looks like business as usual to me. Having a great time!

I say life is short. Do what you want.

I’m not sure I would say people aren’t doing what they want to do, travelling and creating memories with their families over fear. I would say people are finding different ways to do what they want to do with the travelling and creating memories with their families. I’m finding people are actually being very creative with what they’re doing now and spreading their wings. At least that’s what I’m seeing from the people I’m talking with. It’s what we’re now doing. Will I I miss Magic Kingdom, of course, but I’m not saying I’ll never go back. It’s just at the moment. I don’t want to give the orange man any of my money. Mine is principal.

As for the fear part, I can tell you I have a last name that’s easily mistaken for Asian. I am a white Canadian however with that name I have been a victim of racism. For example, I once had a manager tell me it was a good thing I was hired before she arrived at my office. When I asked her why she said, well with your last name I would not have even given you an interview. I also have a Filipino daughter-in-law. I don’t fear as such however I don’t want to be pulled aside for some stupid reason either. I don’t want to worry about a National Guard situation in some city that we’re visiting. Chances of any of that happening is minimal however minimal is not nothing. I look at it like this. It just might be the kick in the pants I need to get me to Hong Kong Disney. We shall see. No matter what happens we will be travelling and making memories. Just in new different places.

Your comment is very valid and I don’t mean to discredit it. I just thought I’d throw in how I see it. What my experience is. I’m not sad for people. I’m actually happy. They also might get the kick in the pants they need to do other things. To expand their wings.

Very well put and completely accurate to our current experience. We cancelled US plans in February because we were “off America”, but due to “reasons” decided it pivot a planned autumn trip to Costa Rica into a cruise to Bermuda. We’re on board now with 3,000 (mostly) Americans and I have not heard one single peep of political discussion out of anybody. I’m quite surprised - it feels a little weird but it’s wonderful. Now that Canadian exchange rate…{{shudder}}. I got cash last Wednesday just before we left. It cost me $1.42 to the US dollar, without fees. That right there is what will continue to curtail any US travel for us, until we see some rebound in the value of CAD. :(

This is the key. People choosing not to venture to the US aren't not making memories. They are choosing to make memories outside of Disney World/Land. There is a world out there to discover. Heck there is a world in Canada to discover. It doesn't have to be all about the Mouse.

I'm not traveling to the US as long as the current regime is in power and for me it's almost 100 percent principle but here's my take on the risk and fear side of things.

The official voice of the US government says that it's sending the National Guard to various cities because crime is "out of control" and this is the only way to "restore order". This is not my opinion, this is a fact and this comes straight from the White House. Then people in America come to these forums come on and say, oh no, don't worry, everything is fine, there's nothing to be afraid of. So only one of two things can be true. Either:

A) Violent crime is so out of control in parts of the US that the local government is completely overwhelmed and the only solution is for the military to step in. This is a very scary prospect for any normal, sane person.

Or

B) The US government is lying to the people, crime is not really that out of control and it's sending the military out against its own people even though it's not needed.

Both of those scenarios are pretty darn scary to me and I don't want to be anywhere near a country where that is happening.

As for the principle aspect, I have been told several times that I shouldn't hesitate to travel to the US because I am not the demographic currently being targeted. I have actually been told, "well, YOU have nothing to worry about". Why, because I'm white, because I'm Canadian, because I'm not LBGTQ, because I'm arriving with money to spend? It seems very wrong to me to use my privilege to shrug and say that's not my problem and go about my life.

I understand that people have lots of reasons for making the choices they make. I have family on both sides of the border and there are reasons that I could justify going down if I needed to, but as far as vacations go, there are many better places to spend my money at the moment.
