Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

We just returned from an 11 night trip. I will say I was more nervous but it was all for naught. We had a great rip!

We spent 4 days in Texas then were on a 7 night RC cruise out of Galveston on a ship where 75% of the passengers were from TX. We did not advertise we were Canadians but occasionally it would come up and we were met with nothing but respectful people and support. I also know there would be some people we would choose not to disclose our citizenship to.

At this time we have a trip planned to WDW in late Aug and unless things change, we will be going. Will continue to monitor as much can happen between now and then.

Our trip was longer so it differs greatly from day trips but check-in (using Canadian passports) was easy at the airport (flew domestically within US - Southwest) and also driving across the border both directions. We have Nexus and were asked a couple of questions as normal then were on our way.

At this time I feel comfortable, although more cautious, about travel in the US.

What customs at the airport? You said you only flew domestically, so what customs would there be at the airport?

My friend who crosses often (land border between BC and Seattle) has said he's gotten a few more questions recently (also has Nexus), including some "jokes" about becoming the 51st state, but no major issues.

Sorry, you are correct. I updated my post. We checked into our flights both directions and at the port using our Canadian passports. No problems at all.

Glad you gad a great trip!

If things were not the way they were I would love to be able to get tickets to see Germany play. But unless they get drawn in a favourable location it won't happen.
I was really looking forward to it as well but we won’t be going either. I can’t for the life of me understand why Canadians would go to to the US now. No president makes annexation threats unless they are serious. In addition Florida’s government went on TV to make fun of Canadians.

I am not concerned about what Americans might say to us, tariffs are not great,
many countries use them. It’s the 51st State and threat of annexation comments that I have a problem with! Do I spend my vacation money in US and help fund the US government?
I told my husband last night, "I wish WDW were on some sort of neutral territory. A proverbial United Nations of sorts." That way vacationing there would never have to involve compromising your own politics or values.

This is so tough!

Doesn't help that WDW is in Florida.

I remember going to a Bills game in Buffalo as an opposing team fan. I got pelted with stuff and verbally harassed. Couple years later I go to a Broncos game in Denver. I am in a sea of orange and season ticket holders. Patriots fan sitting there, no one really pays attention to me until the first TD and I cheer. Then the questions start. As soon as they find out I'm Canadian (and not from New England) and don't know any better it was awesome. People bought me drinks, talked it was great. Got super drunk. And never felt unsafe (despite the super drunkness). Went out of the stadium with the group of people that I sat with, the none-drunk wives/girlfriends made sure we all got on the buses back downtown and got me going the right way back to the hotel.

So we just got home from our Disneyland trip late last night. We drove down from Surrey BC to Seattle and flew to LA. We used a small crossing on the way down because of short lines (very long lines at the two larger crossings near us). Border guard asked us only a couple of questions. Had zero negative interactions with anyone in the US. Our car (a Tesla with BC plates) was not targeted in any way. We stayed the night at an airport hotel and our car was parked there for the week. Coming home late last night we crossed at one of the larger border crossings around 11:45pm. Two cars in front of us. We were asked the normal questions (how long had we been gone, where did we go, did we buy anything). So for us, while things are not normal, all our interactions were no different.

These days, we are having more problems at home than in the US for still going to Disney.

Some coworkers are plain mad at us. Our Disney specialized TA is getting a lot of hostile comments, threats even. We get that people are mad about the situation, we are too. But we won't just put our lives on halt for 4 years.

We figured that Disney is far from a pro-you-know-who company and decided to still spend some of our precious vacation dollars with them because of their strong values. We still believe in them!

Our TA is reliving COVID-like business trauma with a lot of cancellations. He won't pressure anyone to go but we are again supporting his Canadian business by spending our Disney dollars thru him. The situation is really not his fault and it's important we help his business get thru it all.

Our TA is also quite sad about many folks missing their dream and all that Disney Magic. Some people won't be in good enough shape or may not even be there in 4 years. Others won't have the same opportunity for many reasons like children/granchildren not of age...Also very unfortunate that not knowing the Disney difference, the majority of cancellations are coming from first-time goers.

So guys, buy Canadian and please don't give up on your dreams!

Because I could not afford to flush thousands of dollars down the toilet. Our trip was planned and paid for last year long before any of this started.

You do what’s best for you and I’ll do what’s best for me. Please don’t judge my choices and I won’t judge yours.

I was 65 when Covid came along. We missed two different chances to take our whole family to Hawaii due to positive testing etc and lost upwards of $12,000. I refuse to let Agent Orange ruin my travel plans for the next four years, as who knows what life will bring you at this age. I’m sorry for my selfishness and going against what I believe in but it’s something that I feel that I want to do.

So agree with this. Honestly, folks should just keep their OPINIONS to themselves. I'm so over people trying to push their actions on others.

It is easy for some of all y'all to say. Not for others. A simple search of my phone would easily tell them I am a member of the Alphabet Mafia. Overzealous agent after that information plus Disney plus solo male and I'm labeled a pedo and banned for life. Or if your skin is a bit darker, or if your birthplace is 'inconvenient'. So yes, you will be judged for being a complacent and a collaborator.

I was also one of those people still travelling to Disney during Covid when everyone was saying to stay home (I had to 14 day quarantine twice)…so I guess it’s a pattern for me. But only to Disney. Not elsewhere in the US. Beyond my April trip though anything I book will be more last minute or be refundable just in case. I’m hesitant to book anything too far in advance.
