Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

We all have our limits as to how far to go to support Canada in these difficult times. It is a very personal decision.

It is very hard not to travel. We own 2 timeshare properties in Orlando and still have to pay the Maintenance Fees (almost C$4,000 after exchange) and we aren't using them for the foreseeable future. That is a sacrifice I am willing to make for another 3 years with the expectation that we will return to our home away soon enough.

Hardest for me right now is struggling with what to do about my new truck (and future transport to WDW). I ordered it back in November and the salesman assured me that almost all of this model gets built in Oshawa for our market. I just found out that one feature I ordered (the colour, er, color) is not produced in Canada, so I will be getting a US built truck (if GM ever builds it; 4+ months waiting with no sign). Do I refuse delivery? But then all the other trucks in this class are built in the US anyway, so my options are limited.

It's agonizing to make these decisions and I respect everyone who struggles with it. I respect the painstaking decision making. Do what feels right for you, do your part as you see fit.
That's where I'm at, its a tough decision. My oldest daughter got her 7th birthday at disneyworld and my youngest was promised a trip next year for her 7th. I'm making all the "support canadian" changes at home... but am I going to let politics (if it's safe to go next year, who knows) ruin my daughter's birthday and rob me of the last few years of my kids thinking it's "magical and real"? I'm not sure yet. My biggest worry right now is safety at the border.

Safety crossing the border? Things seem similar from the people I know that cross daily for work from Windsor.

There's been people detained (Canadians and europeans), cell phone searches for people who speak out against the administration. Just makes me uncomfortable. So far though, most people are saying it's business as usual, you're right.

Flying down next weekend for the RunDisney Springtime Surprise weekend and then driving down in August for two weeks at Riviera.. politics will not dictate how we travel and have very little desire to travel within Canada.. we are also not willing to lose deposits or sell/rent our DVC points to avoid US travel.. we will choose to support Canadian companies when we can but I am not willing to pay double or significantly more for something just because it’s made in Canada .. I know many people that travelled down to the U.S over the Ontario March break and had zero issues at borders both ways and during their travels…

That's kind of how I'm feeling too. Unless it's a risk to my family's safety, I don't want to miss out on this time.

I fly to the US on the same day they plan to do massive protests. Oh yay 🤪 I just hope my trip goes off without a hitch. I am so excited to go on the Utopia of the Seas, to see Simple Plan 🇨🇦 at Epcot (Finally I have a trip align!) and to go to Magic Kingdom on my birthday.
Utopia is on my wish list. Have a great time!

IMO never make your kids pay for the actions of people outside your control, much less theirs. At least if you can help it.

I understand border anxiety and the uncertainty around things, but as far as taking one trip to the U.S. while supporting Canada in all the other ways you can, I wouldn’t feel guilty about doing so. 🫂

So agree with this. Honestly, folks should just keep their OPINIONS to themselves. I'm so over people trying to push their actions on
Traveling and spending money in a country that has interest to annex our country and ruin us economically will have people expressing strong opinions. This is a public community board where all can express their opinions whether you agree with it or not.

That said my coworker (Canadian) drove to the USA recently and her car was vandalized. The words “Canadians go home” were spray painted on her car.

People are free to make travel decisions but I hope taxpayers won’t have to pay to help Canadians who are detained for no reason because they chose to travel to USA.

I drafted an email this afternoon to cancel my trip to Maine for a week in May. I was all set to hit send and had my husband read it before I did. He told me to wait to see if anything changes next week (Apr 2). I didn't hit send this afternoon, I will wait until next week but I sincerely doubt anything will change and I will be sending it then.

It's so hard to watch long waited for holiday plans disappear because of a few people running things that most people don't agree with. Oh well the money I save, not going, can go to excursions on my Norway cruise next year.

So bummed out.

I disagree - we spend taxpayer money on all sorts of things where I think that the people doing them are taking a risk/going to countries that many/most Canadians do not support. Unless/until the Canadian government puts a warning against traveling to the US which includes the fact that travelers will have no/limited consular support (which I cannot imagine happening), it is the right of Canadians to be supported when traveling to the US to the same extent that they are supported if we run into trouble in other countries.

But probably getting dangerously close to conversations that don't belong here.

Thanks, that's a good way to look at it. I'm going to reserve the room (and bookil nothing else) and see what things are looking like in December or January, then make a decision about the safety piece of it.

Just my two cents but a lot of mental gymnastics trying to justify what is a decision to support a country whose current administration is actively trying to economicly annex our country. No? I get that booked trips can lose money. Or a deposit.

But I'm not surprised. I saw much of the same during the pandemic. Just hope the economy is in good shape when your kids want to get jobs. Because it's bad now. And it might not get better.

But make no mistake, it's not crossing the border that's your concern. It's the intentional actions taken to destroy everything that we have economically.

there is also lots of hypocrisy out there where some people call out others yet they aren’t 100% consistent with all of their many other decisions. They pick and chose what they do based on their own situation / views and criticize others who do same. Criticize US govt and don’t go to US if you don’t want. Many people feel this way. But many others, including myself, don’t think people need to justify their decisions to go to US to anyone let alone people on online forums.
