Can you charge to your room key (like at WDW)?

More specifically, in the CityWalk restaurants? How about in the stores in the parks?

I am here at an onsite hotel right now and was told we could charge to the room. I specifically asked about that since my teens and I will be going our separate ways a few times and I wanted them to be able to pay for what they wanted.

3 hours ago I went to pay for a t-shirt using the charge to the room feature and it wouldn't go through.

Luckily I had a credit card on me so I could still pay but I'm sure some folks wouldn't.

I stopped at the lobby desk and supposedly charging is re-added to my room key. We shall see as I'm heading back out in an hour or so. I'll leave some cash for the teens since they want to stay in the room and buy their own dinner later.

So I would recommend that you plan on bringing another form of payment with you in case the room charging thing doesn't work.

Things to note:

1. On check-in day you won't be able to charge until after they assign you a room Found this out the hard way :)

2. You do have a daily limit, I think it was $150 or $200 and then you have to call and have them authorize your card again. Again found out the hard way during grand opening of WWOHP.

3. Some of the carts are cash only, not very many but we have encountered some.

I usually bring some extra cash with me just in case something doesn't go through correctly. The only time we had the charge card issue on it being turned off was when we had 2 reservations due to price and the new key they gave us in the morning was not activated for charging.

Yes. If you're going to set up room charging, you will be have HEFTY hold placed on your CC. Depending on how your CC deals with this, it can change things for you.

For instance, if your'e like us and you're ending with the best (aka Universal), you might very well have a really solid charge from WDW on your CC. Having that hold put on your account by the Universal/Loews hotel can be a bit scary when it shows up with that WDW charge.

Portofino is the most; I want to say a $200/day hold. It drops off at the end of your stay, but might not drop off before the charge you *actually* made goes through. If you keep your CCs at a relatively low limit, this can be awkward!

After forgetting about the Portofino hold on our recent 8 night trip (:headache:) and dealing with that stress, I doubt if we'll do room-charges again.

Yep, RPR holds $100 and PBH holds $200. If you have a suite they hold up to $400 sometimes.

You cannot charge until you are assigned the room like someone else said. If your card does not go through they will call for a manual authorization. We just had it happen yesterday. We normally only use room charging for the $100 platinum credit but use it for other small stuff too. It's great for our son as he does need to carry cash.

I wanted to pop back in and mention that after I had charging set up a 2nd time on our room keys it worked.

So I guess the person who set it up the first time probably messed it up.

I was also able to tell them how much I wanted to put as a hold on my CC for charging at the Hard Rock. They didn't have a problem with it and did it which was nice.

And I didn't have to keep stopping by their front desk to have them run the charges thru like I did when we stayed at the value resort at Disney World.

i had a suite at RPH and my holding charge was $300.
when i was at the comic book shop in IOA, the TM had to call the hotel for approval of my charge back to my room account for $900.

it only took a few minutes and then i was on my way out of the store.

happened again at another store and the TM called the hotel for approval.

what i was told when i asked at check in time, the cc holding charge for me was 10% of the deposit i paid.
the above happened on my October trip last year.

during my stay, i would pay cash on my account so i wouldn't go over my charging limits.

You don't want to know what they hold on the Presidential Suite we had.
