Can you bring alcohol on board from port

Do you know what the maximum duty free alcohol is per person?
Thanks!
Kate

That depends on your itinerary.
Most of the talk here has been about the Western itinerary, where the limit is 1 liter per adult over 21.

On the Eastern itinerary, it gets a little interesting. If the cruise stops in the US Virgin Islands or Guam, the rule is that you can bring 5 liters per adult, HOWEVER, 4 of those 5 liters must be purchased inside the US possession, and 1 of those must come from a US possession. In other words, each adult gets 1 liter from St. Maarten or the ship, and the rest has to come from St Thomas or St. John, with at least one being an American product. (Recommendation: pick up a bottle of Cruzan rum: it's made in St. Croix.)

For sure you can bring alcohol onboard at any port. However you can only drink the alcohol on board that was purchased in the same country in which you boarded. So if you do the carribean out of miami or port canaveral and stop at key west you can buy booze and bring it on board right into your state room. If however you stop at grand cayman, it is duty free and will be held on board until the end of the cruise.

Not so. You can drink your alcohol onboard at any time, no matter where you bought it.

It is true that in order for Cayman vendors to sell you duty free booze, per Cayman law they are supposed to deliver it to the ship, and DCL doesn't accept deliveries. They can sell it to you non duty free though - it will be expensive. There are also a couple of shops right near the pier where they will sell you the alcohol but you have to go right out and get aboard the tender to the ship, and they will walk with you over there. The shops further from the pier, they can't even sell it to you duty free.

You can check on customs laws for the US and see how much alcohol you are allowed to bring back into the US per person, duty free. They'd probably let you bring more in but you'd need to pay a duty on it.

Correct. We have purchased Kahlua in Mexico a few times and were able to bring it onboard and keep it in our room with no problem. They scan your bags and purchases when you get back onboard from port so they know what you have. We have never been asked to turn over booze bought in port to be held until the end of the cruise.

As mentioned earlier, if you purchase booze in the ONBOARD duty free shop they will hold it until the last night of the cruise and then deliver it to your cabin.

They scan all your purchases? Like if I buy 5 tshirts and 5 braclets they are going to go thru all your bags on the way back to board the ship? Doesn't this take forever?

No they just put all your stuff on the X-ray machine and run it through.

The scanner is the same as at airports that scan your carry on bags. You place your packages on the belt and it travels through the scanner as you go through the metal detector frame. Then you pick up your stuff on the other side.

I was just wondering how long a cruise would be that stops in both the Virgin Islands and Guam…;)

We have 4 families going on our cruise so we r planning on taking a case of wine. Can I just carry it on board?

Guam is not part of any Eastern itinerary that I know of.

Do you mean when you first arrive to board the cruise or in port? If you mean when you first board the ship: Rooms are ready about 1:30 so if you board earlier than that you will carrying around that case of wine until rooms are open so best to pack it in a wheeled duffle or carry on bag. Only restriction is that the bag must fit through a standard size airport screener (ships use the same scanners as airports).

If you purchase a case of wine in port you can bring it on any way you can carry it!!! It will go through the scanner when you reboard the ship.

Yes I meant at port when we are arriving. I think we will put it in a wheel bag just incase we can't get in our room. I just wasnt sure if they limited bottle amt. Thanks so much for the advice

Even in the Mediterranean we had no problem at any port bring back alcohol to be consumed in the room, even in Turkey :) One of the perks of a Disney cruise!
