Can someone please explain transfering points to me?

Unfortunately we had a trip scheduled that we had to cancel which resulted in points going into a holding account. We will not be able to use these points by the end of my use year this year and so I was thinking about transfering them to another member for a fee. Can someone tell me how this works? How do I go about doing the transfer?

Charles is correct. Points in holding status cannot be transferred.

In general, the process is relatively easy. You would get the other member's name, address & TN and call MS. MS will transfer the points from your account to the other member's account. That's it.

DVC rules state that points represent a real estate interest in a deeded lease and therefore have no value in and of themselves. So Disney says members should not receive compensation for transferring points. (But I'm sure most transfers involve $$ in spite of that. MS does not ask).

Transfers are final. They cannot be reversed and MS will not get involved in any dispute between members that involve a transfer.

While you can not transfer the points, you can still do a rental. In this case you would 'rent' the points to someone by making a reservation in their name, using those points.

It all would depend on availability, especially because of the shorter window you're allowed to use holding points.

Finding a 'renter' may also require you use some of your regular points as most will want more than a day or two. But sometimes there are people who do just want the single day.

You could always post a "Points for Rent" thread on our Rent/Trade board. Put in the restrictions so potential renters know the limitations. Maybe there's someone out there who can still use them.

It's up to you whether it's worth it or not. Typical rentals go for about $10/point.
