Can a lead guest use his phone to scan a family of 4 into the parks without having to buy magic bands for everyone?

yes, but everyone still needs to do their fingerprint. it's a pain though. when I had multiple tickets on my phone, it kept jumping to my own ticket and i had to do multiple scans of each ticket to do it successfully.
easier solution - ask for plastic cards for each ticket at guest services and then each person scans their plastic card and finger. those are free.

I used my phone a couple of times for our family of 4 when my children forgot there magic bands. If you have your family ready it's quick. We always line up in the same order(however it's in your phone is the easiest) and the person with the passes goes last. Bring up the pass on your phone, scan it, as soon as the turnstile lights up for the fingerprint scroll to the next pass, we had everyone scanned and thru in less than 30 seconds on multiple uses. We also try to get the front turnstile so not to block anyone behind us and everyone gives a quck wipe of whichever finger there using for the fingerprint(which should be done regardless of which method you use) . Don't wait until your inline to figure out how to use it which I have seen multiple times. IMO, It's the people that make it difficult not the technology. Yes, it's easier if everyone has a magic band or card however if you know how to quickly get your passes on your phone it's not bad.

My experience is with an Iphone and can't speak to how it's on an android.

Also, it's sort of annoying being behind that person in line....
Yes. I have been behind those people: scrolling to try to figure out which card, then yelling out a name, then they're all crowding around blocking people from passing, then they match up the wrong finger to the wrong card, then they're scanning an expired card that they forgot to delete, then they're using their phone incorrectly and trying to scan their Visa to get in. Just ask for a physical card for everyone. They're free.

What?? Disney IT is annoying and doesn't make any sense? I never heard of such a thing.

I'm usually the fingerprint for my kids...so I don't like being the ticket keeper unless I absolutely have to be.

Is it obligatory to give the fingerprint can you opt out?
Part of Disney's privacy policy is that they do not take your fingerprint so I would think opting out or using someone else's finger print would cause more confusion.

"In order to use Ticket Tag, you simply place your finger on a reader. The system, which utilizes the technology of biometrics, takes an image of your finger, converts the image into a unique numerical value, and immediately discards the image. The numerical value is recalled when you use Ticket Tag with the same ticket to re-enter or visit another Park. Ticket Tag does not store fingerprints."

Mark my words, it's only a matter of time until someone doing this causes a brawl. It will probably be at a ride entrance from one of those families who does it with LL.

Yes, but it is a pain especially if you are purchasing lightning lanes. You can get free admission cards for each family member from any of the ticket booths as well.
But how can the card have the Multipass on it especially if you modify at short notice? how does it update?

Do you think having the cards is easier than buying the new Magicband? We are a family of 6 we will also do a cruise. I'm battled as I heard the MB need to be charged every night and it wouldn't be easy to charge 6! But then I'm afraid it would be a pain to pull out the cards at every ride and there might be benefits on the cruise?

The only thing on the card is the identifier that ties it to your My Disney Experience account. All of your entitlements are linked to your My Disney Experience account. Whether you scan MagicMobile, a MagicBand, MagicBand+ or key card, it just pulls up your My Disney Experience card.
