Can CMs take personal photos?

Are CMs allowed to take a photo or two of us? It's just hubby and I for 3 days and we aren't sold on the memory maker for $150 for that short time and two people. Wondering if we take our own camera and ask a cm to take a photo, say, around the castle or elsewhere, would they?

It's free for photopass to take a photo and they have the best spots and anytime I've asked they were more than happy to also take a quick one with your camera. (and then you can decide if any of the photopass photos are worth paying for after the trip and if memory maker would actually save you money vs buying them individually). I commonly skipped memory maker and just paid for 1 photo from each park.

don't know about castmembers but I commonly ask someone nearby if they wouldn't mind and sometimes when trying to do it the selfie way, people just volunteer to help you take one.

From what I understand, even the photo pass people will take a photo of you with your own camera/phone.

We always ask CM in parks, restaurants and resorts to take photos. They are always happy to do so. We also have Photopass on AP but I like to have some on my iPhone as well.

Yes, any CM that is able to take a picture will do so. As will the Photopass photographers as mentioned above.

As others have mentioned yes! Feel free to stop at any all photo pass spots you are interested in, get the pro shot and then ask the CM to take one with your camera/phone. You can access the photo pass pictures on your MDE even if you don't have memory maker and then decide if you want to purchase anything.

I am also prone to volunteering to take the picture whenever I happen to notice a couple or a family posing so they can all be in the shot.

We've had lots of Photopass CMs take pictures for us on our phones and cameras, and they were always happy to do so! We even asked one CM to take a Boomerang gif for us, and she got really excited about it (it was fairly new at the time).

And as others have mentioned, if you don't see a CM nearby, don't be afraid to ask another guest for help. Few people will say no, especially if you're able to return the favor. We try to look for people who are holding DSLRs as they tend to be better at framing shots.

We were actually encouraged to help out guests by taking pictures to make sure the whole family was in a shot (this was back in 2004, so obviously policy could have changed).

Photopass are the way to go. Most often they have the best location and backdrop for photos and they have a good eye for photo balance!

I think you will find Cast Members and other guests will be very happy to take your photo with your own camera as long as it's a "point and shoot" thing.

I did want to share a story of something that happened with my family and a Cast Member taking our picture. My husband and I were visiting with my father-in-law and mother-in-law and my father and stepmother surprised my in-laws by showing up for one day (my father and stepmother lived in Florida). The moment was so special because my father just casually walked up to my mother-in-law in the Boardwalk lobby and said "don't I know you from somewhere?" All six of us then went out to the Boardwalk and my mother-in-law (who still hadn't recovered from the shock) said it would be nice to have a picture of all six of us but everyone poo-pooed the idea because who would take the picture? I just walked over to the DVC Cast Member and asked him to do it. He readily did it and that photo was displayed in all three houses for quite some time.

Also, if you see someone taking a picture without their whole family, offer to take one for them. 9 times out of 10, they offer to take one right back.

(And then they look at me funny when I say no).

DH & I almost always ask our server at dinner each night. They're happy to do it & as a bonus we look good because we dressed up a bit to go out. :)
