Can anyone tell me about Legoland?

My 8 year old and my DH LOVE legos. Is it worth taking a day away from Disney to go?

You might have better luck posting this on the Southern California Theme Park thread located just below the Disneyland one.

In my opinion it would depend on how many days you have to spend at Disney. I haven't been to Legoland for a few years (DD is 9) and we have only been twice. First time DD was too small to ride much. Second time was better. It's a nice park but I still prefer DLR. Or SW. Or WAP.

But if your DS and DH love Legos than I say do it. The lego structures, etc. are pretty darn cool!

We visited Legoland 2 years ago on our trip to southern California. We spent 3 days at Disney and took one day to drive to Calrsbad and visit Legoland. My youngest son, who was 10 at the time just loved it and talked about it for months. He still gets out the pictures and looks at them. But he LOVES lego's and he very much enjoyed the mini cities and such made from Lego's. All in all we had a great time there...cute park and beautiful area in general.

If your son LOVES legos like you said then I guess try it out. I HATED legoland. It was almost the same price as Disney and did not compare in ANY way. The place smelled of garbage throughout and it smelled of cat ???urine at one point. The food (cheeseburgers) were gross too.
My kids kind of liked it but not enough for the price. I think I was just sad and in a bad mood leaving Disney and that added to it. My husband did not like it either. The zoo was better! BUT if your son loves legos and you still have more time at Disney after then I would say okay but honestly I will never go there again. Disney is 100 times better. My DS insisted on going to legoland which is why we split our trip half anaheim half san diego. Even he like Disneyland better.

I've never been to Legoland, and never had the desire to do so. However, we went to the Lego store at DTD this weekend, and with our purchase of $75, were given a kid's membership pass to Legoland. This offer continues until the end of April. I guess we'll go now, but I doubt we'll take the whole family.

We went to Legoland in December 2007. We had a good time and were able to get through it from the time they opened.. 10 I think... to 4. It seems like it would be alot more fun for kids when its warm and they have all the wet things open. But I think if you son is into Lego's then yes its worth going

My family (just me, DH, and DD) has been to Legoland several times and we love it. Not huge Lego lovers either. I have to say that the park has always been immaculate when we've been there and we never noticed any bad smells at all. It's actually a very pretty park. The food was fine - typical amusement park stuff - except for the apple fries, which are great!

No, it's not Disney, but it's fun. Especially for kids your son's age. Since you say you love Legos, if you have the time I definitely recommend a visit!

We took DS7 and DD5 in December of last year. We go to DL every year, and this was the first year we decided to add on a day at Legoland. We did it on the first day of vacation, and spent the following 3 days at DL.

We LOVED Legoland. It happened to be a beautiful day (which always helps, of course) and it was not crowded at all. It was clean, and our lunch (hot dogs) was nothing special, but not gross either. We had the coupons where we bought tickets for myself and DH, and the kids got in for free (many thanks to grumpyvet....a dis board poster who sent us the coupons).

Anyway, my point is that if we had bad weather, big crowds, and had paid full price (or even close to full price) the day would have probably felt much different. Maybe going to DL first and then to Legoland after....a visitor might have expectations that are too high. DL can be a hard act to follow. Legoland definitely isn't DL, but we loved it for what it did have, and had a really good time. We liked that we didn't have to split up at all during the day, and could do everything together (my youngest made almost all the height requirements). It was a lovely day, and we plan to include a day there at the end of this year during our annual DL vacation.

Good luck with your decision, and have fun whatever you decide!

If your son and DH are really into Legos, it's probably worth going once, espcially if you won't be back in the area for awhile (the Lego magic fades past 10 or 12 for most). The rides aren't supersonic, but the fact that everything is made out of Legos or looks like Legos will keep them entertained.

Be sure to check their park calendar. Sometimes during the offseason they aren't open every day. There are some good coupons out there to cut the cost; also available at some Costcos I've heard.

It depends. If you will be able to spend at least a day or two at Disneyland, then go for it. If you can only make one, Disneyland OR Legoland, I would say go to Disneyland.

For the record, Legoland is more directed toward kids, while Disneyland is great for people of all ages (in my opinion, anyway). Both are great for kids, but it depends more on their interests.

Hope I've helped! ;)
