Camping late April/early May

Hi, normally we camp in early February butthe past few years it has been just a little too cool for these Texans to swim so I was thinking about a late April/early May trip. The kids really want to do a lot of swimming this trip. Has anyone gone this time? I was worried about the crowds, it would be about 2 weeks after Easter next year. The February crowd levels are really nice. I was also wondering if the heat was too much at that time of year. We are used the to heat but do not want it too hot. I was avoiding March vacations while I still can. I know the weather is great but its Spring Break month and the crowds are there. It will be our last vacation before we have a little one in school so I would still like to enjoy the not as busy times while I can. . .thanks!

Keri, we just returned, those were our exact weeks. I can't address the crowds, as this year Easter and the big crowds after, began in March this year. We experienced short lines, low crowds.

But the weather typically is plenty warm enough to swim, usually just touching on hot in the afternoon, which would be moderated by cooling breezes.

Our kids were in the pool even when it was drizzling... We experienced some unseasonable thunderstorms at the begining and end of our trip. But most of our 2 weeks there were rain free and sunny.

That mid-april to late-may time period is my favorite time of year weather-wise and crowd-wise. I too got back from a mid-april visit this year and it was warm in the day and we slept in the popup with the flaps zipped down at night. Almost perfect.

The October time frame is the same on the other side of calendar but I'm usually busy with high school and college football games in the fall. Rates fall after the Easter blitz and it's a nice time to be at the Fort.
