Hey everyone! I just found this thread. My hubby has been a Fire Fighther in Irving, TX, for 10 years now. We have two DS 8 & 4. They think their dad is the coolest in the world (of course). I'm very proud of my husband. He absolutely loves his job and is great at it. I pray every day that God returns him safely to me.

Just had to share this with you girls....my DH just called. He was really happy and said he and the guys were going out to celebrate. I said, "Celebrate what?" He said they just had a call a couple hours ago for a 2 y.o. drowning victim in a pool. They SAVED the little boy!!!! (I'm so proud!!!) :teeth: He was a FULL ARREST on the scene but they brought him back and he is doing fine. I didn't even actually hear the call. (Was drying the girls' hair after their shower).

My DH (who is an EMT and teaches CPR courses) is always kidding around that you don't want him to come to the call if you needed CPR because his record was like 1 out of 100+ attempts that the person lived. Well, now he's got 2 SAVES!!! I guess we can't kid him anymore!!!

Can you imagine those poor parents!!! Geez....everyone go hug and kiss their kids now...I DID!!!

P.S. Welcome STaylor!!! ;)

Hello everyone - Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers!!!

This has been my first attempt in awhile with being on the computer. I don't know if you all remember, but my 8 month old DD has been having health problems (alot of sickness) and I thought that after having tubes put in her ears on 4/30 she would be much better. But....she hasn't. She has been screaming - and I mean screaming - almost all the time and she will barely let me put her down. She has been waking in the middle of the night screaming like somebody dropped her on her head. I took her to the doctor yesterday to see if something was wrong with her tubes and they were fine. I explained what is going on and he believe that she has heartburn and acid reflux and that is why she is waking up screaming in pain and is crabby alot all day long. So.....we have yet another perscription, and it is for Zantac to help with the heartburn. So all of you please wish me luck. Because after working all day, not sleeping all night, and not being able to do anything while I am home because Katie is screaming is simply exhausting. Last night I finally was able to fold 2 baskets of laundry that has been staring at me since Saturday.

So now, DH has his Tuesday softball game that started at 9:30pm (of which they will likely lose) and I am sitting here eating some pie and checking in to see what is going on here on the DIS. Then I am going to go to bed, because I just never know when I am going to have to wake up with Kate.

Anyway...sorry to be complaining, but I am feeling very stressed out lately. Well, I hope all is well w/ you all and take care!!!

Hey, Slo, sorry to hear about Katie. Hope all is well. I have reflux, too, and know how it feels so I understand what she is going through. Just wish those little ones could talk sometimes to let us know what is bothering them. Hopefully the medicine will help and all will be well.

Get some sleep. Take care..

Hey Mishell...sniff, sniff....do I smell a skunk???? Just wondering.

The Lodge was GREAT!!!

Had Room #2113 right outside where the creek comes out of the Lobby.

I had posted my trip report...we got Flag Family! The rest of my pictures are linked at the bottom.

Yea!! DH went to work this AM..won't see him till Friday afternoon when I get off work ( which is also his b-day ). I called the station last shift to let them know it was his b-day so they could do something "special" for him on his normal shift Thursday. LOL..He will KILL me if he knows I did that!!

She-Devil!!

Hey Gals...How's everyone today?

I actually have a question for you, Betsy. I know a while back you said something about planting herbs. I was cooking a recipe last night that I had to go buy fresh herbs for (basil and rosemary) and thought that it might be cool to plant my own at home. So I guess I was wondering how you did it? Did you buy the plants? Where did you plant them inside or out? Are they something that grow back or do you need to replant? (Can you tell I'm totally clueless???) Thanks for your help.

mmm...FRESH HERBS!!

As we are in an apartment now, I grow them on my balcony in pots...before we sold our other house, I just had them in the ground.
Florida is pretty easy to grow anything..so I buy the plants ( never had luck with the seeds) and they pretty much take care of themselves. They do need LOTS of water either in the ground or pots. Also "pinch" off new growth of basil to make it get bushy.

I currently have a big pot of speariment (great in tea) and 2 basil, rosemary and dill in another pot. Cilantro and sage are by themselves ( i have never used the sage)
My Herb Garden
The Rest of My Patio

Most are annuals...so when they die, you need to replant, but they are cheap and if you keep them from going to flower, you can get alot out of them!! Good Luck!

Thanks I'll have to give the "herb thing" a try. My younger DD gets into the whole "planting" thing and she LOVES to cook so that takes care of both of those things with one shot. I know they have the herbs at the Home Depot which is about a mile down the street so I'll have to go visit them and take a look. Thanks for the info.

Not much else going on today. Just working and have to do some other gardening when I'm done. Going to camp tomorrow night. I can't wait. Our friends that live about an hour away and camp next to us (with their 2 kids) will be there, too. Woohoo!!! What's everyone else up to?

ok..I take it back..I want DH home!!

48 hour shifts stink!!!

Hi All.....

Betsy...don't worry DH will be back soon and you'll be wishing for the bed to yourself again!;)

DH has an interview tomorrow with the city FD (Paid). I think I told you before that he's undecided if he will really take it if it is offered for several reasons...one being that he would take a SIGNIFICANT pay cut. (You know how it is with those firefighters....who else do you know that would be willing to take a PAY CUT???).

Anyhow, just to get an idea of other areas....I was wondering if you gals wouldn't mind sharing what the pay scale starts out at for NEW FIREFIGHTERS in your area??? (I'm not being nosy here about YOUR PERSONAL situation, of course...I just want to know what a BEGINNING FF starts at) Here in Syracuse the pay starts off at like $29K.

Okay...so let's hear it!!! :smooth:

We have a paid/volunteer department in town. There are 6 paid guys who work 8-5 M-F and the rest is all volunteer.
When DH was on the list to get hired as a paid FF, I believe the starting pay was $28,000 topping out at about $55,000 after 5 years.
There was NO way we could live with that kind of pay cut(starting out) so he has given up the dream of being a career FF and sticks with accounting as his career and firefighting as his passion. :D

That's kinda the same boat we're in. Thanks for answering. Isn't it kinda funny that my DH being a grocery store manager (which is a WAY LESS dangerous job) makes more than a firefirefighter who risks his life??? Crazy, huh?

Keep 'em coming....
