Calling all Chicago DISers #3

After a long day of work and band booster board meeting...I am excited to read everyone's posts.

Tiggerrn- I loved Show Choir....way back in the old days...as my kids say it:rotfl:

Slo- Emmy loves Brownies. We are busy selling cookies, getting ready for encampment and flying up to Juniors in May.

My son really enjoyed Marching in the parade at Disney. I was bummed that Emmy and I were not able to join him...one I never plan to miss again!!

Hope everyone has a great night!!

Crissup - Sounds like you've been doing a lot of flying and cruising. Will you be stopping at Aulani while you are ported in Hawaii?

We are skipping the Aulani excursion. DCL didn't get it formalized until after we'd already booked our excursions, and then it was pretty expensive. And the free runs that DVC is doing for it's members, we figure is going to be primarily a sales presentation with just a tiny amount of time to see the resort.

So, we're sticking without our site seeing excursion.

Morning all. Just having a few moments before the crazies of the afternoon begin. eyes on ears is streaming from the Boardwalk, so listening and looking at the sounds and sights while I ready myself for the day. Hope you all have a great day. :goodvibes

Last night was Stephanie's last basketball game for her middle school basketball team. They lost every single game, but last night, they played the best ever!!! They had a terrible coach, and their moral was really in the toilet, but last night they came out with a lot of heart, and scored the most points out of any of their other games - we were so proud of them!!!!:love: Stephanie has expressed wanting to try out next year, of which I wasn't to thrilled about, but I told her I will support her as long as she is willing to practice all summer with me, to make sure she learns how to dribble, and use the backboard properly (all things that her coach was suppossed to teach them). She said she agreed, and that means we are going to be doing alot of dribbling up and down the driveway when the weather gets better :thumbsup2

In a couple of weeks soccer will be starting up, and Stephanie is really looking forward to that:yay:. After having a crappy season at basketball, she is really dying to start soccer, which means she's probably going to kick butt this year (she was one of the best players last year). It'll be fun to watch her!!

What's everyone doing this weekend?
Tomorrow we are working in Katie's room to get it switched from Dora to Princesses.
Sunday we are driving to Indianapolis to the Indiana State Museum to see Sean Casey, who is one of Stephanie's idols:love:. For those that don't know who he is.......he is an extreme meteorologist/storm chaser. Stephanie has developed a HUGE interest in weather, and it's all she talks about, and it's almost all she watches (she always has the weather channel on). She has a Tornado Alley movie poster from the MSI (the movie is/was at the Omnimax theather), and it is his movie, and she wants his signature on the poster. So, we're taking a road trip to get it:car:

Mac - I am dying to get to Universal, especially now, to see the Harry Potter stuff. I just wish my kids would go on some rides to make it worth my o $$$. I need to just say forget em' and have Kevin and I take an adult only trip:thumbsup2

Crissup - Thanks for the good luck :)
Sounds like you've had some nice trips :sail:
Congratulations to your DD - I hope she had a beautiful wedding!!:goodvibes

geffric - Do you like being an "empty nester"? I know some people do, and some people don't

DG - Thanks for the prayers:goodvibes
Wow, 3 jobs!! Good for you, but I bet you get exhausted :faint:
Congrats about your new nephew:cloud9: I wish my brother would have a baby so I can have a niece or nephew.
Good luck with the car :wizard: Mine is getting pretty sad too.

DN - Our cookie time was in January :cold: It's hard to sell cookies when it's freezing cold outside. Katie ended up selling 60 boxes.:thumbsup2

I hope you all have a good weekend!!!
I'll see you next week

it is so strange how we just pick up and start talking again..feels good to have such wonderful friends that we can do that..:thumbsup2

DS#1 is home for a few days..we drive him back to Iowa on Sunday. So my weekend is getting his hair cut, a belt, stuff like that..

SLO - adult trips are grand.. loved HP..

Mac -

DG - 3 jobs?? Good luck..

Crissip - sounds like good advice re Aulani tour. we are on the Hawaii after yours.. so whatever wise words of wisdom..I'll be all ears..

Sounds like we're pretty much running the same cruise itineraries. LOL! We did the Aug 6th Wonder to Alaska last summer. Now the Hawaii cruise. We figure we'll get back to Hawaii at some point and stay at Aulani, but when we do, we may not do the site seeing excursion we've currently got booked. So, sticking with the excursion for now.

There's a Facebook group dedicated to the May Hawaii cruise, that may help quite a bit for the october cruise.

i have seen earlier pictures of aulani.
my brother is a contractor that worked on that resort.

he has a company in hawaii since the late 1980's.

we visit each other every other year.

Wow, so happy to see this thread pop up in my inbox again. I too have had a hard time keeping up with the Dis since I started on FB. Seems like life is the same for me but it is busy.

DD15 is half way through her freshman year in HS at St. Ignatius. She takes the Metra and CTA and has become so independent. She has a really great group of friends, only problem is the are all scattered across the city. :rotfl: She has a new love....cheerleading. Her school season is over but she's now on a competitive team preparing to compete at US in March. She's going on her own with other teammates. This has us driving to Frankfort every Sat & Sun, it is an hour each way. :headache:

DS11 has had an amazing transition to middle school. His team told us at his IEP that he's doing great and they are working more on nuances of conversation with him.

DD10 is busy with dance, she's on a competitive tap team and has her first competition in 2wks. She still plays trumpet and had her first solo competition last weekend. She also just finished a stint in community theater, they did Bye Bye Birdie. It was a great production.

We have a trip to the world planned for June, right when the kids get out of school. We can't wait!!

Crissup - all your cruises make me jealous. ;) The kids are desperate to go on a Disney cruise, hope to make that happen for them someday.

slo - will keep Katie in my thoughts, that is tough for a kid having to miss out on all activities. I feel for Stephanie on the basketball, DD15 had that in 7th grade too I think they won 1 game but they played hard to the end. Hope she has a better soccer season!

geffric - wow, empty nester! Sounds like you've made the best of the time with some great trips!

mac - I hear ya on airfare prices, we are driving in June because having to buy 5tix puts it in the insane category. If you have any tips for DD15 on the dark side please share.

dg - 3 jobs! :scared1: Wow, I'd say busy is an understatement. Good thing is two are Disney related. :thumbsup2

Tiggern - isn't it amazing how busy our kids keep us!

:wave2: to everyone else, I know I'm missing people but there was so much to catch up on!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! :flower3:

irish dancer, what type of info do you want for the darkside?
i'll share anything with youse that you need.

always willing and happy to help a fellow chi-town homie...:)

i have my motherland trip booked and partially paid for sept 25.
and the darkside for oct 2nd all set up.

now i have to wait for the snow to stop falling, melt, endure a lousy spring weather this year, bear thru the below average summer temps, then hit the fall for my vacation.

i live for my vacations in orlando.....

hey disneygal, i could not find any decent rates for American when i last looked.

do you mind me asking what did your fares cost?
you can pm me that if you don't want to post here.

i have always had my air booked by mid february in the past trips.
it is now March and i'm not even close to getting air.

since i go solo, driving is out for me.
i did drive to orlando two previous times and said, never again.......

it took too much of my vacation time from work and i was beat before i even checked into the motherland...

Good Morning!!

Happy Saturday!!

DD and I are selling Girl Scout Cookies this morning...

Hope we can sell a lot!

Our trip in May, I decided we were going to drive. I looked online and each ticket for the 3 of us was looking like $300 each...

I just bought a new Kia Rio with 40 mpg on the highway and would only cost us $300 round trip to drive. Sooooooooo I pick driving. I have also decided to bring my son's mini fridge and our toaster to help with food costs. So we can spend money on pins and such instead of food and airfare.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Stay warm

What a busy busy weekend we are having!!!! :faint:

Friday night we went searching all over the place to find curtains to match a new comforter we bought, and we finally found some (this was our 2nd Friday night doing this). We got home, laid everything out, and decided that we were just settling with EVERYTHING we bought, and we need to rethink everything. So we were up till past midnight looking at comforter sets online to still find nothing we really like.:sad2: Everything out there right now IMO is so UGLY!!!! :guilty:

Yesterday we tackled Katies room, to get it converted from Dora to Princesses. This is not easy, because she is a bit of a hoarder, and stuffs crap in places you would never imagine:headache: After the new headboards, yes plural, went up, and everything got moved, I decided to tackle the playroom :scared::mad::headache: All those faces are because that's what the playroom does to me. You want to talk about a place for hoarding?!:headache: I worked in that room all day, until 10pm, only taking a break for church, and dinner. After all that work, I have 4 large garbage bags full for Goodwill, 4 large garbage bags full of garbage, and other things for garbage :faint: It looks so much better in there:thumbsup2 There are other things that I would love to get rid of in there, but Katie's isn't ready to get rid of them yet, so I caved and let her keep them. She doesn't touch them, but she still wants to keep them, so I said, "Fine".

Now, I'm up early so we can leave for Indy early today to go see Sean Casey. Stephanie is so excited!!!!!:yay::yay: I hope he's nice, and takes time to sign a couple of her things. It's going to be a quick trip to Indy, because I don't want to make it an all day affair since there's school tomorrow.

geffric - It is strange isn't it, but that's how it is with my best friends. We don't talk for months, and we just pick up where we left off :thumbsup2

ID - Sounds like your kids are keeping you busy too.
Thanks for the thoughts for Katie :goodvibes

DN - I hope you sell alot of cookies :wizard:

Everyone else - :wave2:

I gotta go get ready for the road trip at $4 a gallon
Have a great day!!!

Hi Dis Friends! :wave2: I'm so glad everyone is back. :thumbsup2 I love reading about your lives. What a nice group this is. I'm not on facebook - so lost you all. Slo... I think you are the one who kept the thread alive with welcoming everyone and responding so well to comments. Hope you stick around. Your girls and you look beautiful. Mac too - always helpful and attentive. ALL OF YOU make this thread so fun to visit. :lovestruc Takes me FOREVER to post, so lurk often. ;)
We live NW of Chicago, and have two sons - one (19) lives in Logan Square now. The oldest graduated from college and is living next door to us in a home we bought for them (real estate is cheap here). Oldest was brutally attacked by a stranger and had $100 K in facial reconstruction this year. It has been traumatic for us all to say the least. :sad1: Have to move on and not think about it too much. Reading and thinking about Disney really helps! :goodvibes
Read a couple of you talking about taking care of geriatric cats too! :grouphug: Mine is currently wearing a onesie so he'll leave a wound under his arm alone - ahhahah. :lmao: Shouldn't laugh, but good grief. He is appx. 98 in human years according to his vet.
I'm a solo Disney traverler - remember that Mac is too. We one time were on the same flight home and didn't know it until we read this thread! :) I'll be going again in October this year - mid month for Food & Wine and Halloween party. :cool1:
It's SO GREAT to hear from you all! :flower3:

good afternoon chicago land homies..........:)

is the weekend over almost already..........yikes.
i haven't done a thing in the place where i live which i refer to as The Dump.

i have a good excuse.
i was lazy this weekend.

rmom, i do remember you!!

now if you are on the same flight i am this october returning back home, do let me know.

just stand up and yell, "where is Mac"...........

i'm not a facebook homie either with the exception of using it for HHN for contacts.

i prefer the Dis.
(looking at my post count might explain that one..)

i am so sorry to read about your son that was jumped and beaten up.
that is awful.
i do feel your pain.

went thru something similar with a son in Mexico some years back.

i have 2 cats.
one is very old.
my vet told me Baby is the oldest cat they have ever had in their practice.
she gave me an idea of what Baby would be in people years.
100
she has had so many medical conditions in her life i am amazed she is still with us.
she is down to about 5.5 lbs now.
was up to 20 lb when on insulin shots some years back.

but, how in the world do you keep a onsie on the kitty?
does kitty try to get it off?

and for the rest of the homies, where are you?
i need to count noses today.

Slo, i am worn out just by reading all you did this weekend.
redoing the girls bedrooms, and the play room.

do you hire out?

for 25 years i have said i need to shop and buy new curtains for the bedroom and bathroom.

i think i will put that on my list for the next time i shop.

how is Katie and the boot?
she is in my prayers still.

Evening all! Hi Mac, checking in for the head count here!:thumbsup2
rmom, so sorry to hear about your son. Hope things are going better for him now and healing is well underway.
Sandy, you are so productive. I was cancelled from work yesterday and did nothing but lie on the couch and watch movie after movie. What a lazy no-good, loafer!!!:rolleyes1I have a toy room that sounds just like yours. Have a large trash bag filling in progress. I got sick of it and had to give up for a while.
Disneynut, good for you buying a new car. Can't think of a better way to break it in than a trip to WDW!:cloud9:
Hi Geffric. Hope you are doing great.
Worked today. Not too busy, but had things to do all day. Picked up DD from her Peter Pan rehearsal. She was very excited-has a lead part as a Tender Sheperd along with her Indian Maiden part.:dance3:
Well, going to head off to dreamland where I find myself wandering from resort to resort on occasion. Love when that happens!
