Hi gang! Guess what - I can only read and post on this board from work. At home, we set the parental controls higher on the computer for ds11 and now this board is blocked because it contains Sex Ed content! Did you all know that?? Too funny...

Only one more day of work until the weekend. Not much planned of this weekend. Yea!

Back to work,
Lori

Can you put this as an approved site? That worked with our old computer.

John, did you just study for these with books or online or did you have to go to a course through a college? DH needs to get busy getting some certs. His BS in computers isn't all these companies are looking for. They want certs, too.

My area of expertise is in information security. So, my training revolves around that.

I took a wireless security course through the SANS Institute. It was a 6 day class that was held last November at the Hyatt Chicago. SANS does information security training and certification and they offer their classes all over the country. I've taken two classes through them (and certified on both). What has impressed me about them in the level of training they offer and it's typically vendor agnostic. All to often you go to a Cisco training class (for instance) and all they do is teach you how to configure their device. They instructor doesn't necessarily know if their solution is the best method to secure the technology and wouldn't tell you if it wasn't. After all, they're there to teach you their device, not to point out their failures. With SANS, they teach you the technology, complete independant of any vendors.

In May of 2006, I used them to learn computer forensics. That's where you take a computer and search the hard drives for evidence that can be presented in court. For instance, any time you hear of the police seizing a computer after a crime, that's where it's going.

This time, I used them to learn how to assess and audit wireless networks. So, for example, I could sit in Starbucks and eavesdrop on people's network access while they're using wireless. You can't properly secure a technology unless you have a good understand of how the hackers are breaking into it.

Fortunately, I'm a white hat. I use my knowledge and skills to secure my networks against the bad guys. Not to break into other people's networks.

Hello my sickly friends! Well, my eyes are on the mend...no makeup, no contacts at school today...not a pretty site. Then, I got a call from the kids' school. Ds was sick in the office with a fever. Great! We need warm weather to get outside and get fresh air! Ugh!
Thanks to those who read my thread. I think things will be better off without Bridesmaidzilla anyway!
DisMeet- Count me in, as long as I am free. We are having a busy summer, though.
m_kasch- Welcome!

Hey everyone! Is it spring yet? geez..I dunno how much more of winter I can take! :sad2:

Geffric - I hope your job interview went well! :goodvibes

The library has been fun the past week or so....our youth services dept which is in the lower level got flooded on Sunday. Not enough to damage books, but enough to close the dept all week and do some damage to the carpets and such

Donald'sShrink I don't think I have ever seen The Sword in the Stone all the way through!

I've seen The Sword in the Stone several times (it's one of my favs); unfortunately we did not get to watch it tonight. My DD3 rented Bambi II at Blockbuster so we watched that instead. I've never been one for the direct-to-video sequels, and this one was no exception. Even my daughter turned to me when it was over and said "I like the old Bambi better." :thumbsup2 Are there any direct-to-video sequels that are any good?

Welcome m_kasch !!

My e-mail notifications haven't been working again...so I have no clue there are any posts anywhere.

DS-7 is running a fever tonight -- so not good. I hope he didn't catch strep from us. The most bummer part is I have tickets for DS-4 & me to go see Go Diego Go Live tomorrow. I did call Grandma and she is to the rescue.

He might wake up just fine tomorrow but I'm not counting on it & even if he does I think he's going to stay home. I came home from DD's choir concert & DH told me he had been sleeping pretty much the whole time. That is not like him and when I looked he just LOOKED like he had a fever, so I took his temp and it was 100.1. He's had no other complaints. The show is early enough that after I see how he is in the morning, after I get back from the show I'll call the doctor's office to see if I should bring him in for strep since both DH & I had it or if I should just let it ride for a few days as it might be something else.

DD got accepted into the Illinois Youth Music Summer Program, so she's excited about that. I'm thinking we may want to spend the night at a hotel the night before though as check-in starts at 8 AM and they highly suggest female chorus students check in as ealry as possible (along with flute, clarinet and 1 other instrument players). It's about a 3-hour drive for us, we estimate -- which would mean leaving about 5 AM (DH said leaving at 4:30 AM would be better) -- a hotel the night before sounds like a much better deal to me at the moment. :)

becky, i think spending the night in the motel the night before is a good idea.

i would do that when i took my son to college. stay overnight the night before and be able to have him check / move in early next day.

it really saves a lot of time and frustration.

Hi!!

I just came across this thread in passing and thought I would post. I live south of Chicago and love Disney!! LOL. I'm always either planning my next trip or totally bummed that I am not planning my next trip. :rotfl:

Hello to everyone, and here's to hoping that this horrible winter ends soon...:wave2:

m_kasch
:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

welcome to the thread.
any homie is welcome to come and be a part of us.
we are your friends in the box !

This is going to be a pretty fast post today, because I have to get Stephanie to the hospital by 6:30am. She is having her surgery this morning, so today is going to be a long day :faint: (that's me being tired).

Even though this surgery should be a piece of cake, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, because she is still going under anestesia (sp?), and there is always a chance something could go wrong. I'm sure she'll be perfectly fine though.

Well, I gotta run and get ready to go
Have a good day everyone!!!

pixiedust: I hope everything goes well for Stephanie. I'm getting a late start on my day, I'm moving slow. I think I need more coffee this morning.

Hello and welcome to our new friends.

Donald's Shrink I agree Bambi II is not as good as the original, but we enjoyed Bambi II. I think the original has special memories attached that why I like it the best.

Jedi Water and books don't mix. I agree this winter seems extra long, tHe calendar says different. Do you have any more exotic trips planned?

Becky I hope no one else is getting sick by you.pixiedust:

Slo and Stephanie- I am sure everything will go fine! I will keep you in my thoughts!

The library has been fun the past week or so....our youth services dept which is in the lower level got flooded on Sunday. Not enough to damage books, but enough to close the dept all week and do some damage to the carpets and such

Hope she has an easy time of it and feels fine after the surgery.. prayer and PD for you and her..

Slo -- pixiedust: :grouphug: for Stephanie this morning.

DS-7 woke up feeling fine this morning, his temperature was gone and he was acting normal -- so I sent him to school..keeping fingers crossed it was a correct decision. He said he felt fine. I think he must have just been wiped out as he asked if he had dinner last night. When I told him no & asked if he was hungry? He answered Yes, I'm very hungry. So I figured that was a good sign since he ate and still felt just fine, etc...

Happy Friday citizens!!!

DD is feeling slightly better today. But she's still coughing and blowing her nose and congested.
We picked up her homework yesterday afternoon. The teacher, however, didn't include all the books she needed!! :headache: Not too sure how she expected her to complete her work?? :confused3 And there was a ton of work. So needless to say DD went back to school. Being in 2 accelerated classes makes it hard to miss more than 1 day of school.

slo  pixiedust: : for you and Stephanie
I'm sure her surgery will go perfectly fine today!!!! :goodvibes
I was thinking of her last night. The whole family was watching Arthur on PBS, and the episode was about DW getting tubes put in ears! :)

paint I hope your eyes clear up soon!
Is your son sick today still?

jedi Good thing the books didn't get ruined!!! :)
Will you be able to make it to a summer meet!!

Donald's Shrink We have only seen the ending of Bambi II so I can't give an opinion on that.
Lots of direct to videos stink!!!

geffric How did your interview go yesterday??

Need to run!
Cubs tickets go on sale soon, so I'm off to the virtual waiting room!!! :cool1:

TTFN!!!:tigger:

Hello all, I found this thread from a link on another. Hope I am not intruding on your community, but I was SO excited to see it! We currently live in Roselle, and DH and I both work in Naperville. I have not had enough time to read through all the previous posts, but you seem to be a great bunch!

When will the winter madness end?? Do any of you consider moving to FL during this time of year?

There are no intruders here. All are welcome.:thumbsup2

I dream of warm places.

ohhh Sandy, I hope all goes well with your DD! I totally understand about the anesthesia, that's the most scary part of it all! Thinking and praying for you guys!!

Romans last appt. was insane yesterday as there were Medical Students training and EVERYONE had to have a poke at the poor little guy :sad2: Surgery is still on though as his hearing in his good ear is continuing to get worse.

We leave on week from today! I can't believe it! I just need the warm weather!!

Bunchkin- Yep. Still sick. I hope it isn't the flu. He had the shot but I know some people still get it. Luckily, I was not scheduled to work today so we are home together!
PrincessTigerLily- Welcome. I think the consensus is we are all sick of this weather. I dream of WDw all the time, but even more so now!
