Calling all Chicago DISers #2

Slo ~ If I was to be flying with the kids, I would pack snacks too. My concern would be that there would be some sort of delay and I have no desire to pay airport prices for food.

Morning everyone! Been a bit busy lately and this weather is just fabulous! Not too hot and with a jacket not too cold! We've just been having a blast! And get this! (I won't share names) but I had to share cause i'm BURSTING! My jewelry is going to the Playboy mansion for their Halloween Party!!!! :faint: How cool is that??

Alright everyone have a good day!! We're off to the bank to deposit some checks from my shows and then to Target...arggg...I hate Target. Go in intending to spend 20 and leave spending 200. It's like an alternate universe in there!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I went to the gym last night for the first time since I got my Wii fit! I didn't stay long but I at least went through 6 of the 7 machines on my workout plan. It's a really nice gym b/c when you sign up you meet with a trainer and they ask you what you want to accomplish and they set you up with a plan with certain machines. the one machine i didn't do was for my arms and I already have 2 other machines that work my arms so no big loss!

Slo ~ my dad turned the furnace on for me last week. he knows how cold i get and asked one evening if i wanted it on. i, of course, said yes. he's a great dad! :goodvibes

as for the DIS, i browsed the resort pics threads. today, i might do restaurants, i'm not quite sure yet!

Piglet ~ sorry to hear about your bruised leg. that had to hurt. i don't know how i missed your post yesterday. :confused3 hope it feels better real soon :wizard:

Everyone else :wave2: have a wonderful day!

DMM ~ i feel the same way about Target! Congrats on the big news! That's so exciting! I'd be bursting with excitement too! :goodvibes

Good chilly morning! I hate this cold. My house is 54 this morning. I refuse to turn the heat on until I seal the windows. Our house is old and just loses too much heat. I am scared to start getting those bills again!
Well, the TN wedding was great, but I spent a lot of the last few days in the car. It was a tease vacation- we tried to cram a week trip into 2 days. We also hiked to the top of Chimney tops. It is a 4.4 mile round trip strenuous hike- rocks, tree roots, etc. You end up 1700 ft up and my quads are still killing me!
dmm- Will we see your jewelry on "The Girls Nextdoor"?
slo- Your bra comment made me lol. I went on one of those motion rides at Dollywood one. Ouch. I needed a sparts bra.
piglet- Hope your leg is better! I took a little wipe out on the hike- kind of a controlled fall/slide/spilts. I ended up with a nice bruise!
dgal- I will have to post some of my sister's Dis themed wedding stuff. It was so cute!
kim- Belated happy bday!

Dismeet pics- Thanks for posting! It was great to put some faces with names! Wish I could have been there!

Well gang, I finally turned on my furnace this morning - it's cold in here!!! :cold:
Kevin and I said we didn't want to put it on until after vacation, but it was 58 degrees when I woke up :cold: My hands just can't deal with that, and I can't wear gloves inside - that wouldn't work well:sad2:

Question.........
Do any of you feel the need to pack unneccesary food to take on the plane? I do, and I don't know why, but I do. The girls have several snacks (2 of each - one for both ways), and I bought myself some things last night at Walgreens. In the end, we don't eat all of them, but I feel the need to be prepared - weird I know!!!!

hey homie slo.........i turned the furnace on before i left for orlando on oct 2....

they turned it off on the days the Indian summer happened while i was gone though. furnace went back on 24/7 on oct 14 for us.

we have the new windows, new front door and don't have to seal up every window this year to prevent the drafts coming in.
or should i say, this is the test year to see if our money went to good use in having the house done. (over $2100 for windows and front door)

i refuse to stay cold. if i have to live in the north, i will stay warm during the fall and winter.......and sometimes the spring..

i flew united this time to the motherland. other times i use american airlines. both sell the snack packs or lunches on the flight.
the price changed from $5 to $6 the day i flew out of ord.

what you get in those snack packs aren't as tasty as they look in the plane magazine describing them. i gave away half of what was in mine.

take snacks with you.
with the excitement the girls will have, they probably won't eat much for breakfast before you leave for the airport.

the mcdonalds at ord is higher in costs than what we pay here.
their breakfast menu is fine but kids don't usually get hungry until they are in the plane. that is what happened to me when my 3 boys flew with me in the younger years.

put some cinnamon toast crunch or golden crisp in baggies for the girls to munch on during the flight. it won't fill them up so you can still do a decent lunch for them when you get to your resort at disney.

pack snacks for your return trip also. do cereal as it won't get stale while you are down there.
do jelly beans, string cheese or pop a bag of popcorn before you leave your resort so the girls could munch on that for the return flight. buy mickey rice krispie treats at dtd for the return trip home.

i don't take any peanut type of food in case i am near anyone with an allergy. United posted this month on my flight that there are some with peanut allergies on the plane but you can still eat peanuts if you have them with you. they did not restrict us because of some with allergies.
(that was bad...imho)

you can buy some small containers of cream cheese with you and bagels and fix it for the girls on the flight. bring along a plastic knife or get one and a plate from the stewards on the flight.
or buy donuts the night before you leave and take them on board for the girls.
what ever you don't eat, toss it when you depart from the plane.

buy something cheap and don't feel bad on ditching after the flight.

the reason i always buy snacks or make a simple sandwich of salami and crackers for each flight is due to the fact the plane could be delayed for any reason.
this keeps me from having to buy something at the airport.

on my return flight, it was to board at 4:20 and depart at 5:00 in the afternoon.
weather was fine, no issues there to predict a delay.

the plane we were scheduled to take was delayed in colorado due to an illness of a passenger. that plane was to come to orlando and then be used for the chgo trip.
that plane came in late to mco.
then it had to be cleaned which took 40 minutes.

then checked out and a new flying crew had to take over.
one of the crew members was stuck in traffic and we had to wait for her to get to the airport.
oh gee...........on and on were the delays for that return flight.

you just never know what can cause a flight to be delayed.

the food court that was closest to the gate i was deporting from was at the other end of the building after i cleared security.

not knowing how long this delay could be and getting to the point of becoming hungry, i walked to that food court and got my food to go.

ending up finishing that food before we even were allowed on the plane.

i always take something for me for both flight trips.

Morning all. Looks like I have been MIA for a bit now. Sorry.
Kim, belated happy birthday wishes to you. I had forgotten we are only a day apart. Hope you had a great one!! Sounds like you had a whirlwind fun time in CA. Good for all of you!! It's always great to know someone that wins these trips.
Piglet, sure hope that your bruises heal up quickly. Such a bummer to get hurt when you are just out trying to have a nice day.
DMM, I am off to Target today myself. Just need toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and juice. Shall we guess what I will actually come home with? Congrats on your jewelry promotions!!!
Mac, how are you doing? Hope you're feeling better soon.
Paint, hope you get to that sealing windows this weekend. It is chilly out at night. We had to turn our heat on, too. It was just getting too cold in the house. I didn't make it as long as some of you-gave in last 2 weeks off and on. If I wake up and it is less than 65 in here, BRRRRRRRR.
Slo, I bet you are beside yourself about now.:cool1: Just a couple more days!!!!:woohoo: Have a great time. And I know what you mean about having something to eat on the plane. This time on AirTrans we only got a package of gingerbread tasting crackers-very small in size. If I hadn't packed some things in the kids' backpacks, they would have been starving by the time we got there. And airport food is :sad2: and not cheap.
ID nothing too fun with the day off, but I did get tickets purchased for DD Nutcracker performance and help DS with his community project, so at least it was a productive day.
DG, are you enjoying your TR surfing? I like reading others experiences. Helps to know what to avoid as well as what to do.
Hersey, how are you doing?
Bunchkin, where are you

Hi all!!

I've been so busy lately I have not had a chance to stop by here.
And right now we are in the middle of cleaning the house for a showing later today. Downstairs is totally done, and upstairs is 90% done. So not much left to do.
Kids have karate tonight, awards night actually. But I can't go because of the showing.

Our heat has been on and off for a while now.

DH's dad, who is almost 88 yrs old, is not doing well. We think he might not be around too much longer. He sleeps most of the day now, up to 19 hours, and has no energy to barely eat.
It's so sad. The doctors say there are no signs of anything being wrong with him, but we think it just might be close to his time to leave us.

So let me see if I can catch up with you all!!

slo Happy birthday to you!! :cake: Thought I'd add that here even though I did manage to call you on Saturday and leave you a voive mail! :thumbsup2
Sounds like you had a great weekend!
Hope you're almost done packing!

Kim Happy birthday to you!! :cake: I hope you had a great b-day! It sounds like you were busy!!
And your trip sounds wonderful and hectic!!! Glad you made the red carpet in time!!

Hersey Happy birthday to you!! :cake: Hope you're having a great day!!! And go some where great for dinner!! Or is Alex cooking for you?

Tiggerrn Happy birthday to you!! :cake: I didn't know exactly when your b-day was. And I don't recall if you mentioned it! So was it Sun or yesterday?

piglet Sorry to hear you got hurt! Hope you're feeling better soon!

paint Hope you're doing well after your fall/splits!

DMM Congrats to you on the sales!!

HI to all!!!

Gotta run and finish cleaning and iron the kids karate GIs! :wave2:

No idea why that second one is sideways. I've rotated it, saved it, etc. Just turn your head to the side!

Bunch Thanks for the well wishes. Alex made me a flourless chocolate cake on Sunday while I was out with my friend. Very yummy. I was stuffed from dinner we went to Pf changs then I had to shift to find room for the cake. Not to fear I did find room. Always room for chocolate right?;)
Alex is being choked by homework this week. It's the end of the quarter. So I am making dinner I am too tired to even get carryout.

DMM :thumbsup2 on the sales.

Slo We have had our heat on and off since it got pretty cold a couple of weeks ago. The cold mornings are what does it to me.

PaintNice pictures. Not sideways for me :confused3

Tiggggg :bday: :cake: I'm sorry I missed you.

Wow it's been a busy day here!

Happy Birthday to Kim!
Sandy, Have loads of fun!! I want to go!!!!

I hope the jewelry would be on the show, wouldn't that be cool! hahaha!! If they film at the halloween party, I just may have to watch it and i'll be looking at all the necklaces and rings trying to find my pieces! heehee!!

Have a great night everyone

Kim - I meant to ask - was Kelly able to get some good looks at the HSM stars? Were they signing autographs?
We saw one arriving when we got there, can't remember who. And from there, we had to go to our seats, where we watched the arrivals on a big screen. They also were introduced before the movie, and we saw them from afar. She got 3 autographs, but none from HSM3 cast. One was from someone on the new Suite Life on Deck.

As for packing snacks, I always do, and always come home with some. :confused3

where's kim?
she's usually here when i am at late night.
maybe she will pull the midnight shift here tonight.

i'm trying to play ketchup...

paint, i mailed the doggie decal today to you.
let me know when it arrives.

finally got the dump cleaned up here.
it didn't take as long as i thought it would.
whew......

i drank too much coffee this evening.
heck, i might even still be up when the sun rises in the morning.

michelle, i'll check out the jewelry on the "girls" when the halloween show is on.
congratulations on getting your stuff on tv.

may i have your autograph...

Hey all.....I"m leaving in 2 days!!!!:cool1:

I'm almost ready, but not - it that makes any sense:confused:
I'm feeling pretty comfortable about what I have lefted out to pack, but I"m not comfortable with how I"m leaving the house. I normally like to dust and vaccuum before I leave, but there's no way that is going to get done, and I"m not going to stress myself out with doing it:headache: I did clean all the bathrooms yesterday morning, so I just need to touch those up tomorrow night. I will definitly vaccuum and mop the kitchen floor - I must come home to a clean kitchen floor!!!!!!!

piglet - Down deep I"m always worried about being stuck in the plane for hours. Whenever I hear that people were stuck in a plane for hours and hours, I always wonder about the kids on that plane - especially the babies. I coudn't imagine being stuck on a plane, with a baby, for an extra 4-5 hours - that would be a nightmare!!!!!!!:scared1:

DMM - Congrats on your jewelry becoming famous - that is totally awesome!!!!:cheer2:

DG - That's nice how the gym sets up a plan for you. If I ever join a gym, that's exactly what I would want :)

Paint - Those pictures are very very nice - thank you for posting them!!!:goodvibes

Mac - Thanks for all the snack tips:) I never thought of the cereal, and the bagel - very good ideas!!!! The idea of buying donuts is a good idea too - you are so smart!!!!! My girls snacks are not so great, and now I"m thinking about changing them after reading your post - thanks again!!!!!:)
**How are you feeling lately? I've been thinking and praying for you!!!
**Are you still awake from that coffee??:hyper:

TTTTTTTTTTTTTigern - We are getting very excited!!! We've had so many weird things happening around here (home, town, Kevin's work), that we are glad to be getting the hell out of Dodge. I'm starting to count the hours, instead of the days!!!!:thumbsup2

Bunchkin - I"m sorry to hear about Tony's dad:guilty: I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers:angel: Please keep us posted on how he is doing.
*Thanks again for the birthday wish, and for the voice mail - you are so sweet!!!

HERSEY - :cake: Happy Birthday!!!!
How sweet of Alex to make you that cake - he is such a great kid!!!!:goodvibes

Donna - Thanks for the birthday wish and for the happy travels!!!:goodvibes

Kim - It's to bad you guys couldn't get a closer look at the HSM group or couldn't get autographs:guilty: I'm just glad that you all still had a great time!!! So, what did Kelly think of the movie? The girls and I are very excited to see it Saturday (we are going to see it at DTD). I love the HSM movies - I think they are just great!!!!!:)

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work
We need to leave early today so I can take Sophie to the groomers. I was going to wait until we got home, but she accidentally tore my mom's coat yesterday with her long nails, so I decided to go now (my mom is watching her while we are gone, and I don't want her ruining anything else. She probably wouldn't, but I'm paranoid now:rolleyes: )

Have a great day!!!!

DMM - That's cool about your jewelry! :goodvibes Can you PM me your name from eBay?

So I'm back from WDW. :sad1: We had a good trip. Some things went as planned, others didn't. I don't want to make a whole TR thread because I don't think it was that interesting :rotfl: , but I'll post some things here. Hopefully you won't mind.

We didn't have any problems getting to MCO or with ME. Our room wasn't ready when we got to POR (it was only around 1pm), but we did get a room in Oak Manor like I had requested. (Actually, the CM accidentally gave us our room number, so I didn't have to call for it.) Our bags were in our room when we finally got back that night, so everything was fine there.

After we checked in we took the boat to DTD. We got to see the work being done on the Treehouse Villas. It looks like they're putting in completely new ones instead of just redoing the old ones, which surprised me. It'd be fun to stay there sometime, but I have a feeling that they'll be pretty hard to get if you aren't a SSR DVC member. We went to Earl of Sandwich to eat (I had chocolate pudding and potato chips...I love vacations! :yay: :lmao: ) and then did some shopping. I got some things at the candy store, and they had some things at Art of Disney that were newly marked down by half, so I got a pretty Cinderella on a carousel horse. I'm still thinking about a Big Figure of Minnie as Mary Poppinson the carousel horse in Mary's white dress, holding an umbrella. It plays "Jolly Holiday" and is very cute, but of course, expensive.

Then we got a bus to WL and took a boat over to FW for HDDR. The check-in process was a pain (they didn't announce that you had to check in until there was a long line), but once we got in it was fine. We were a few tables away from the stage, right in the center. My dad got his (bald) head polished by Six-Bits, and he was also sung to by one of the girls. The food was good and we all had a good time. Except it was kind of chilly inside, and especially on the bus going back to POR! :cold: I didn't have anything with sleeves with me at that point.

Then on Thursday we went to DHS. I had wanted to be there at opening, but the bus was late in coming and then my parents wanted to stop for breakfast. Once they were eating breakfast at Starring Rolls, I decided to run over to TSMM and at least get the FP, so I went over there and it was a 25 minute wait just for those! The stand-by line was 65 minutes. Finally I got the FP and then we did other things. ToT said it had around a 20 minute wait, but there was no wait! We walked right into the building and they opened the doors to the study! The only wait was right before we got on the ride, but that wasn't bad. I'll take it! :cool1:

I love TSMM! I wish I could have ridden it more than once, to see if I could improve (I think I got around 59K, and I did beat my parents. :thumbsup2 ), but the lines were just too long. The FP were gone shortly after noon (while we were riding it), and we saw waits of something like 45-100 minutes throughout the day.

My CM friend came over and met us and did the Beauty and the Beast show with us. (She hadn't seen it since it had been redone years ago, and she also hasn't ridden TSMM yet, because of the lines.) She couldn't stay long, because she was having someone else coming in from out of town the next day and she needed to clean up her place.

My dad and I got a FP for RNRC for that afternoon, but when we got in line to do it, it broke down, and we were ready to leave, so we just went back early. It would have been nice to do Fantasmic, but even I was tired, and my parents are in their 70s. I think we left around 6pm.

So we went over to the CR and went to get our bags which were transferred over from POR. They weren't there! :scared1: They should have been there hours before, but they had nothing written on their sheet about any bags being delivered. We really didn't need our bags for a few hours, but my dad had wanted them, and he got totally mad. They made a few calls (the first woman was trying to get me to call :furious: ) and finally they said they had located them at POR and they were going to be sent over. That had taken forever. We needed to eat something, so we went over to the Gasperilla Grill at GF and came back over around 9pm, expecting to pick up the bags and go up and watch CSI. THEY STILL WEREN'T THERE! :scared1: :scared: :furious: They were still at POR! So finally after some more calls they were sent over and we got them a little after 10pm. :sad2: That was the worst part of the trip. My dad gets really upset about things like that, and I don't like it when he gets mad at Disney. :rotfl2:

I'll write more later.

Kelly & my niece LOVED IT ALL! I'm taking Kelly and 2 of her friends to see it Friday after school, and my niece is having a HSM3 movie BD party on Sunday, that Kelly is attending also, SO, after Sunday, I will have seen it twice, my niece twice, and Kelly 3 times! I'd say they liked it a lot! :thumbsup2 I myself, enjoy the music. ;) Have fun seeing it in DTD!! popcorn:: THAT would be cool!

And, the dusting and cleaning will be there when you return. No rush. ;) Enjoy your trip!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the BD post, mac! :goodvibes

Hey all - I'm leaving tomorrow!!!!!!!:yay:
I leaving with a pretty bad cold though - so that doesn't make me happy:sad2:
I"m taking Zicam, Sudafed during the day, and Nyquil at night (well not tonight, because I won't wake up then to leave at 4:45am). I"m trying to fight it, and I hope the Zicam will help. I do not want this cold lingering for our entire trip:sad2:

The girls are 100% packed, after I had to revamp 50% of everything I had laid out. The reason for that is because I looked at Orlandos weather and it is going to be low 80s Sunday, high 70s Monday, low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday, and I'm assuming similiar weather for the rest of the week. So I had to replan, because I had shorts and tank tops out for the girls. Now they have all short sleeve shirts and capris:thumbsup2

This morning I need to change all our sheets (I like coming home to clean sheets) and pack my suitcase (which needs to be slightly revamped too). Then tonight I need to pack our carry-ons, vaccuum and scrub the kitchen floor, and then go to bed. I hope I sleep, because I can never sleep the night before we leave. I'm always so paranoid that I didn't pack something, that something is going to be left on, that I won't hear the alarm and we won't get up on time, and the list goes on and on - I"m such a worry wart!!!!!!

Leigh - Sounds like you had some frustrating moments, but overall still had a good time. Kevin would be really mad like your dad too - he doesn't like it when people DON'T do their jobs.
*I'm really hoping that we are able to go on Toy Story Mania {{fingers crossed}}. But, from what I heard, the FP go fast, and we will not be at DHS when they open. I want the girls to sleep in a little, because we will be at MNSSHP the night before. Oh well, I'm going to not stress about it, if we don't get in, than I guess we have to wait until next time - I'm assuming it's not going anywhere.

Kim - Wow, Kelly really does love it :teeth: That's good, I was hoping you would say that, because when some movies hit a 3rd time, they sometimes stink. I just love the storyline with these movies, and I do love the music too (I have a lot of it on my IPOD). I"m really looking forward to seeing it!!!:)

Well, I gotta go jump in the shower and get myself moving - I have a lot to do before I go to work
Have a great day!!!!

oh my... i can't believe i didn't post yesterday!

Good Friday Morning Everyone! :flower3: I was very busy yesterday at work but still, the Dis is the first thing I do when i get to my desk. I'm excited b/c this is the first weekend where i really have NO plans at all. i'm hoping to be able to get some good cleaning done! Also, i'm hoping to finish putting all my spring/summer close in their containers for the winter and finish getting my winter clothes out. i heard we are possibly getting snow flurries... :scared1:

Oh, and for some reason, unknown to me, I can't get my link to my wedding planning journal to work. I have never put a link in my siggy before and every time i try it, i get an error message. Anybody, have any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

SLO ~  have a wonderful, safe trip!  i will be thinking of you and hoping your cold goes away!:wizard:

Kim ~ that's a good amount of HSM3 this weekend! I have yet to see any of them but my sister loves them all. They got me a HSM music bday card last month! It is my dnephew3's favorite. It's really cute b/c he even does the dances! Well, hope Kelly and her friends have a good time today!

Sk8Leigh ~ this may be a silly question but what is HDDR at FW (i'm assuming this is Fort Wilderness?):confused3 I'm glad you enjoyed the Toy Story ride. It was opened yet when we went in the spring, but i hear it's great!:thumbsup2 Sorry to hear about the delayed baggage transfer. That really does stink! But I'm glad you had a wonderful trip! :goodvibes
