call from broker to rent

I recieved a call from someone who first identified themselves as disney and it turned out to be a broker saying they would rent my week out at dvc and send me the cash for the week. I further questioned them how they got my name and asked him where he would rent and he said yacht club. Seemed like a very strange call since anyone even a broker knows there is no dvc at yacht club. In addition I asked what type of info they where looking for and he said he had all he needed to do this. Has anyone ever received such a call. Is disney aware this is happening?

There have been reports about these calls. Our deeds and mortgages are public record, and are viewable on the internet. Likely some outside company is using those records to solicit rent business.

It bothered me that he said he had all the codes to book this with and that he identified himself as disney. Is dvc doing anything to help with this. Also maybe time for trust to not have ownership more hidden.

Are you asking if Disney/DVC is enabling or co-operating with these people? No, in fact DVC discourages any type of commercialized renting.

If what you're asking is DVC/Disney doing anything to prevent this...what can they do? Deeds are public records and are viewable on the Orange County website. These people can not access your Membership number or other info to make a reservation...you as a DVC owner have to do that, unless you add them to your account as an associate. New DVC rules prevent a person from being an associate on more than 4 memberships.

The bottom line is you need to take the same precautions you'd take for any that calls. Do not give account numbers or personal info to someone that calls you over the phone. If Disney/DVC calls, they have the information on you already...and make THEM verify your membership number before giving personal info.

Honestly, anyone can call and clain to be with any company or bank and pump you for info.

Actually it would be the OC that would need to do something if the individuals are using public record information for illegal transactions.
