CAKE - the best slice of cake for dessert? **Recipes added**

We've had the Tusker House chocolate cake on two different trips more than a year apart and each time it was totally fabulous!

Harambe, I go in two weeks. White cake and white frosting is also my favorite. I love wedding cake. My second fav is a flourless chocolate.
Will let you in on what I find.

OKAY! I'm making my list of ADR's and will need to send them to the Poly concierge by the end of Feb. If you find anything fantastic, I'll be sure to include the restaurant you found it in. And by-the-by, I have perfected my own white cake with white frosting just this past Christmas. If you want I will PM you the recipes I used. I promised myself that I'd only make it on special occasions, tho, otherwise I'd be 600 lbs.

Enjoy your trip!

Yes, would love the recipe. I love to bake. Know what you mean about the 600lbs. I just lost over 40lbs. I love to eat cake and ice cream, however, I try to be very picky now and only eat the very best quality of everything.
We leave in two weeks and I am trying to loose a few more before we go for extra "insurance".. I would rather do it now than when I get home. We are on the dining plan so I am expecting to eat more than normal.
Can't wait for the recipe!

Can you send it to me too? I need a good birthday cake for DS. Thanks!

I LOVE the chocolate cake at Main St. Bakery. Very moist and the icing is sooooooo good. (And I have a wedding cake business, so I taste a lot of cakes for "inspiration" of course... )

Without a doubt the Sticky Toffee Pudding with hot butter rum sauce at Rose and Crown. Although it doesn't sound like a cake, it is very close to one. And oh so fantastic. My 7 year old DD practically inhaled it on our recent trip. Incredible.
Make sure to get a tall glass of milk as well.

Looking at the dinner menu for LeCellier, it does NOT list the cake - but the lunch menu does. Have you had this at dinner? Maybe it just wasn't on that particular menu that they posted.

Yes, we had it for dinner (I think...our reservation was at 4:30pm and that's when dinner begins)

It was very good...

I had 3 of the best pieces of cake at Tusker House, Spoodles & Le Cellier. YUMMMYY!!!!! All were very moist and tasty!!

Tusker House (this is a Devils food chocolate cake with chocolate icing).

Le Cellier Cake (this is a Chocolate Whiskey cake. The whiskey taste is not that strong).

Mmm...Tusker House and Le Cellier are great. :)

oh dear lord.... Talk about weight gain looking at those cake pics I will just have a bite or 2 off of it, and let dfh have it lol. That way I can sample it without having the guilt of consuming way to much lol. To bad dfh does not eat sweets all that much, but he likes chocolate cake. Hey it's disney dang it we have never been he is gonna have to share so I can sample lol.;)

I had a really awesome cake at the WCC, it was chocolate with mousse icing...I don't think it was the Kahlua cake, but I could be wrong.

At LTT, they have a Chocolate Liberation cake you can order for lunch...it's chocolate, warm, with a warm chocolate center, served with cherry ice cream. :faint:

After see those pictures . . . I felt like smoking a cigarette . . .

DH ordered that chocolate volcano cake at LTT. He said it was very rich. I will say that I give up my cake obsession at LTT, because the Carmel Apple tart in the shortbread crust, topped with cinnamon ice cream, is one of my all time favorites.

ROFLMAO

OK Great pics. Time for desert! Is is it just me or has the portion size of the BD Grapefruit Cake decreased over the years or is it a subliminal message to cut the cake!;)

Wow - that grapefruit cake looks divine!

Here are the recipes I was talking about! Enjoy!

Leslie (Harambe)

Tender White Cake with White Frosting

2 and ¾ cups cake flour
1 and ½ cups plus 2 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder (yep – one whole tablespoon)
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup (12 T) unsalted butter, softened
4 large egg whites plus 1 whole egg
1 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract

Preheat oven to 350F. Whisk all the dry ingredients together for a few minutes. Add the soft butter and mix with an electric mixer on low until a paste forms. Add the egg whites, then the whole egg, beating after each addition, scraping down sides often. Don’t put eggs in all at once.

In a small bowl whisk the milk with the vanilla and almond extracts. Add that mixture 1/3 at a time, to the egg mixture. Beat 1 to 2 minutes after each addition, until fluffy, scraping down sides often.

Pour batter into greased and floured pans (two 8 or 9 inch rounds), and bake for 25 to 30. Check at 25 minutes – do not over bake. Cool completely before frosting.

Frosting: This makes plenty for a layer cake!

2 pounds confectioners’ sugar
½ cup Crisco (buy the bars for easy measuring)
1 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
½ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix ingredients together and beat at medium speed with mixer for 7 to 8 minutes, until smooth. Stop, scrape down sides, and beat again. If it’s too thick, add drops of water while beating until desired consistency (I usually have to add more water).

I sprinkle pastel sugar on top to decorate. Very pretty!

Icing will keep indefinitely in the refrigerator (and on your thighs!). To use later, beat again to make smooth. A little water could be added.

 I always get a slice of the Black Forest Cake at Sommerfest (Germany CS) Moist chocolate cake layered with lots of whipped cream and cherry filling :woohoo:

Thanks for the cake recipe:thumbsup2 . It sounds yummy!

Has the grapefruit cake always looked like that? When I was at BD in Jan 2002 I ordered the cake as a suggestion from others on this board. I just remember getting a piece of square cake with a grapefruit wedge on top. From that experience I have never been able to figure out what all the excitement with the grapefruit cake was about. I am feeling the need to try it again next Tuesday when I am there for lunch.

And I forgot to say that I like the chocolate peanut butter bar cake form the BW Bakery. It was better when it was a cake roll but it is still good. The plain chocolate bar cake is entirely too rich and fudgy for my taste, but some may love that too.
