C25K! Anyone else in?

I had PF for a long, long time. I suffered way longer than I should have -- for about 9 months. I would never put off treatment again. Here is my advice: 1) go to a podiatrist (I went to my family doc -- he took an x-ray, told me I have a heel spur and gave me a cortisone shot in my foot -- I would rather have a baby without an epidural again. :scared1: My podiatrist said he would have never done that. 2) Get orthotics. I got mine from a physical therapist. The physical therapist helped with my PF but it might have been because a cute 20 something guy was rubbing my feet -- that might not impress your DH . . . 3) Don't be afraid to get help because you are overweight. You deserve to be able to walk without pain. I wear really good shoes now because walking without pain is priceless. :thumbsup2

My DH is overweight, too, and he has really gotten into the Alton Brown diet plan. It is a very sensible plan, DH has lost 10 pounds in about the last 30 days. He also had to get a CPAP machine (we both sleep better now). It is hard to watch them struggle but I have to admit that I would not have wanted someone to tell me what to do when I was doing nothing to stop my downward spiral, so I keep my mouth shut -- even when it is really hard. :flower3:

I think that you are doing great with your C25K and weight loss! :thumbsup2

Thanks Lisa. His was terrible last summer right before our trip, ended up with 2 cortisone shots. He got a boot to wear at night, and he tries stretching and icing, but he isn't as good about it as he should be. It's trying to flair up again. He has to wear steel toed shoes at work, and they aggravate it for some reason. It may be time for a trip back to the podiatrist, and a new set of inserts.....

This week was the 1st week that I managed 3 work-outs. Usually I only do one or 2 per week. Since we're were powerless and staying at my MIL's house, I was able to use her treadmill. I feel SO much different for having done all 3 work-outs!!! Yesterday I did w5d2 and the 8 min runs were ok. Usually I'd be struggling.
Luckily my MIL is lending me her treadmill until after the half-marathon! My DH is at her house right now getting it....

My garmin forerunner 305 came today and I can't even try it out, waaaaaaaah.
OK sorry I get a wee whiny when I am sick. ;)

That's awesome! :thumbsup2

Finished W2D2 today (of Couch to 10K)... got up early to do it, so I thought it'd be great... but I was transitioning to "real" running today, in Riverside Park, rather than on the treadmill... went MUCH slower, unfortunately. Only got about 3.2 miles when I should have done 3.9 miles in 55 minutes. :scared1:

That all being said, it was so nice to be outside.

I did W5D3! That's a 20 minute run! I can't believe I can run for 20 minutes, 6 weeks ago I could barely do 1 minute. I just love how gradual this program is, and I trust it so much that today I was thinking "I've been able to do the program so far, so of course I can make it! They wouldn't have put in a 20 minute run if I wasn't able to do it!".

Today I caught up with a few people I know and they said "how are you?" and I replied with "I ran for 20 minutes this morning"! I'm pretty excited about it :yay:

Congratulations!!!:cool1: I love to hear this because friday I had a hard time finishing w3d3, but i did it, so I couldn't imagine making my 5 minutes this morning, but you give me hope!! Nice job!! I hope I'll be back to say "I ran for 5 minutes without stopping" later.

You can do it! It's amazing how each "little" step is huge in our minds, and sometimes to our bodies.:scared1: but the feeling of accomplishment is incredible!

Awesome! My 1st 20 min run will either be later today or tomorrow. I'm happy to hear that you made it. It's very encouraging to me!!!

congrats! i just love hearing this cuz i'm on W1D2 and i was ready to collapse! definitely better than W1D1 except for the calf pain!

Just completed W6D2 for the 2nd time. And I just realized that this was my last interval run. Fromt his point forward, each day of the program is at least a 25 minute run. :scared1:

I just finished Week 7!! Only two more weeks to go! :cool1: I'm doing fine with my 25 minute runs, so moving to 28 minute runs doesn't seem intimidating at all. I can't believe how far I've come. I remember when 3 minutes seemed intimidating!

I have my first 5K scheduled for mid-April!

I did it!! I did W4D1 today, and it wasn't as bad as friday's w3D3. I really tried to stay focused and ignore everyone around me when I was jogging. I think friday, I tried to speed up to pass people when I was jogging, and that was too much for me. I really concentrated on keeping my breathing easy, and the 5 minutes went by quickly. I'm so excited again. It's amazing how one day can be discouraging, but the next time out, I actually believe I will complete this.

I love it too! It is amazing how the program works!

You can do it. I still have those up days and down days. I think it must come with the territory. I have yet to run 30 min straight since I graduated the program. I like doing 20 min 5 min walk 10 min. It is nice that I am running the program now.:rotfl:

I remember that in week 4. It is awesome how we progress over such a short period of time and how it changes daily. Keep up the hard work!

Me I did 2.5 in about 35 min because I walked 5 in the middle but it is working for me and I still love running so that is a huge pluse from the old couch potatoe.

I keep thinking about what I'm going to do once I finish the program. I see myself always being a run/walk person. I know someone who has been running for many years and she says she still walks a portion of each mile.

Congrats to you! W5D3 was such a turning point for me. At the beginning of the program, I thought, "I will never be able to run 20 minutes!" Then, when I did it, I decided I won't say that anymore--no matter the distance. I CAN meet my goals by working steadily towards them. Conquering those 20 minutes was awesome!

The nice thing about doing the C210K rather than C25K is that I don't hit the 20 minute run until week 10 :) :lmao:

Finished W2D3 today. 3.5 miles in just under 50 minutes. Felt great most of the time. :wizard:

Week 7 done!!!!! I can't believe I am consistenly running 25 minutes! :cool1: Once I am done with the program, I'm going to keep with a 30 minute run, pushing the speed a little each time until I am doing a 11 minute mile, then a 10 minute mile. That's my goal, anyway.

To those in the earlier weeks, you can certainly do this. If I can, anyone can!
