C25K! Anyone else in?

Mind if I join in? I am on W4D2 (tomorrow) of the program. I live in Northern VA and the trails are still snowy in spots so I have been running on my treadmill. Hopefully the warmer weather will melt the rest of the snow and I can try to get outside and see how it goes. I have an application for my Verizon Droid that beeps when I should run and beeps when I should walk so that I can play music and run at the same time. It works pretty well.

Anyway, I am making it through, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that it gets tough in the last few minutes of the last run, but I make it. On the bright side, I don't think I could have run five minutes in a row 4 weeks ago, so that is something. :)

Anyway, my goal is the Race for the Cure on June 5th in DC. A bunch of folks from my church are running/walking it, so I am hoping to be one of the runners.

:welcome: I think the last few minutes of the last run gets tough for most of us.

:yay:Hi everyone. Found you all thanks to Carissa and decided to join in-hope there's room for 1 more! Doing w1d2 tonight so wish me well-joined ww on monday so fingers crossed that helps too. Tell me does dancing to Imagination Movers with a 3yr old (in the midst of potty training) count as "active rest"! LOL

If you saw my dance moves you'd be very very happy I only performed in the privacy of my own home (luckily 3yr old boys always love their mums):rotfl:

 Glad you came over! Lots of people in different weeks of the program and lots of support.

I just did W6D1. I definitely wasn't feeling it when I started. Wasn't feeling all that well last night and kind of continued this morning. The first 5 minute run was hard to get through. I just felt very tired and blah. But, once I warmed up, it went pretty well and I actually feel better now. :confused3

Welcome :grouphug:

No races planned yet. We are traveling back home for 2 weeks the end of March. The princess was full for this weekend. So I am lingering. I really want to do the Wine and Dine in the fall. We shall see.

I did W4D2 today and I think that this might have been the roughest day since I started. I feel great now that it is over and I've taken a shower, but for some reason I was dreading the workout and during it, my heart wasn't really in it. Having said that, I managed to make it through without stopping or walking when I shouldn't, so that is a good thing. Hopefully W4D3 will be easier on Saturday!

Part of my problem is that I am dreading three workouts from now when I have to run 20 minutes without walking. I don't know why, but it seems like an impossible task, even though I know that it is just a mind of matter thing. I need to have some sort of mental breakthrough or something. :)

Anyway, still plodding along, so I guess that is a good thing! I have three months until my first 5K so my plan is to keep up with this C25K think, which should be done in early April, then start one of the training programs for the 5K.

Congratulations on sticking it out & making it through!!

W2D4 - I was having a bad morning this morning too, had a headache just wasn't feeling myself, but I made it to the TM and actually had a good workout! I am looking forward to moving on to W3!!

W8D2 done! I actually made it 30min I wanted to finish the loop around my neighborhood. So I did 2.3 miles in 30 min. Seriously I am getting worse. But the run felt good for most of the time. It is weird how much things change from day to day. Oh well just roll with it I guess.

Did w1d2 yesterday and I found it harder than the first day:confused3Is this normal? Still kept going though and then because I had 5mins to kill I kept with the slow walk at the end total distance was 3.2 km(2 miles):cool1:

Felt quite chuffed with that-might be doing this week again though before progressing-I'll see how I go on saturday.

By the way can anyone tell me how to get the wee mickey 5km sign on my sig.
I tried doing what Liz told someone else but the picture doesn't come up then I noticed it says "not allowed" to a bunch of things when I try to edit sig-dont know how to change that or if I even need to???

Did W5D2 yesterday. I wasn't really feeling it, but I ended up giving myself a lot of positive pep talk to get through the end of both runs. Next up is that dreaded 20 min run. I woke up this morning feeling like my DH has passed on his cold to me too. I've done it before and I'll do it again, but last time it took me a week or so to get up to the 20 mins and it probably will again. I'm amazed at how mental running is though. Right now I have a 5K scheduled for April 17th and Expedition Everest Challenge in June. I have two friends who's 4 year olds have recently been diagnosed with Leukemia and I'm seriously thinking about joining Team in Training to run the Half at Disney in January, but that seems like an unattainable goal right now.

I hope you dont have the cold. I think running is really mental too. I just keep at it. Sounds like you have some great goals. Even at week 8 I dont know when I will be able to finish a 5K much less a half. Good Luck. Hopefully we will all be there.:goodvibes

It's definitely normal to have good days and bad days - one day you may feel great when running and then the next it's all you can do to lift a leg. Your body may still be tired from the first run since it's a new activity. Just keep plugging along. :thumbsup2

Did you save the graphic to your computer and then upload it to a photo sharing site like photobucket? You can PM me and I can try to help you do it.

:cheer2::cheer2: I JUST KICKED W5D1's butt!!!! 3 miles in 26 minutes, sprinted the last minute of the last 5 minute run!

That is awesome!!!!! Congratulations!

I will be repeating Week Five next week. I have been too sick this week to do anything other than the Day 1 on Monday. It's very frustrating - I am afraid I am going to get behind!!!! Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in over the weekend and I'll be able to pick back up on Monday with Day 1 again.

Weren't you just calling yourself a turtle a few pages back??? 3 miles in 26 minutes is FAST!!!

That's awesome! I only got 2.1 done in that time. Keep up the good work!

Amy, just keep at it. Don't let a little set back make you quit, just keep plugging along, that's how to make it lifelong. It may be tough the first day after a few day off, but your body will remember and it will get easier.

woops, blame it on the endorphins going too hard to hit the keys .:lmao: 3 miles in 36 minutes, not 26. YIKES!!! THAT would have been great! :rotfl2:

3 miles in 36 is still very good! I did 36 minutes yesterday and was just barely over 2 miles. Talk about a turtle.

I'd say I'm an avid exerciser. I do about 45-60 min on the elliptical, and then 20-30 min on the bike, plus weight training about 4 or 5 times a week. However, I SUCK at running! I think I"ll try this to start conditioning my body for running, as I will not have gym access for most of the summer, just a treadmill and the road. Hopefully it works! You all make it sound very promising!

That's still awesome!

I have week 1 in the books :cheer2: My legs felt really heavy the first couple of runs, but after a bit they loosened up. I always walk at the end to reach a full 2 miles, and I cut another minute off today for a 19 minutes mile. I can't wait until next week to see how I do :goodvibes

Thanks! I've been doing so well staying on schedule that I feel guilty I haven't been able to do more this week! I can tell I'm "addicted." I am itching to get back at it! I am hoping my body will be able to pick back up where it left off. I had really started to feel comfortable running and don't want to have to go back and "re-teach" it!

I went to the gym today (since it isn't a running day) to do some weight training. I always warm up on the treadmill for about 10 minutes before I do weights and after 10 minutes at 3.5 (roughly 18 minute mile) I realized that not only was I not winded, I didn't even break a sweat. Yeah, it is a small victory, but it was pretty exciting. I guess all that running is getting me in a little better shape!

Tomorrow is the last day of week 4! I still haven't tried to run outside. Too bad I can't run the Race for the Cure on my treadmill. Eventually, I am going to have to give up the outside fear and give it a go.
