C25K! Anyone else in?

Well- I've had an interesting week. I'm on week 8 and mon did a great 28 min run- no walking. Wed wasn't so pretty. My shins hurt for the 1st time and I think I only ran for 20 min and then went over to the elliptical machine. Needless to say I was worried about this morning- but I kicked butt!!! Looking forward to running outside at the Poly next week.:yay:

Way to go! I'm so jealous of your upcoming trip. I've been thinking about a trip all day today. Found out recently our December trip might be in jeopardy due to work, so now I'm covering plan B. Have a great time for me.pirate:

So glad I forced myself onto the TM even with a headache! Made it through W2 & lost 8 pounds!! Woo Hoo!! Starting W3 tomorrow which I am excited about, but my sons b-day party was tonight & I just couldn't resist 1 piece of pizza & a piece of cake!! But back on the wagon tomorrow!! ;)

Oooo that sounds fun! Wave to the monorail for me! ;)

I went to the gym today (since it isn't a running day) to do some weight training. I always warm up on the treadmill for about 10 minutes before I do weights and after 10 minutes at 3.5 (roughly 18 minute mile) I realized that not only was I not winded, I didn't even break a sweat. Yeah, it is a small victory, but it was pretty exciting. I guess all that running is getting me in a little better shape!

Tomorrow is the last day of week 4! I still haven't tried to run outside. Too bad I can't run the Race for the Cure on my treadmill. Eventually, I am going to have to give up the outside fear and give it a go.
I heard it is quite different you should probably take your first outside one slow. I love your haircut photos!

Wow 8 lbs that is awesome!

Congrats on the weight loss! :cool1: I made some "healthy" oatmeal cookies yesterday and ate too many. :rolleyes1 But, they're all gone now and back on track.

Just started tonight. Didn't die. So all is good.

:rotfl: Not dying is a very good thing. :thumbsup2

W6D2 in the books for me. :woohoo:

Hello! I would like to join the fun. I am about to start week 7 of the C25K. I have always hated running, but the gradual increase has been great, and I am a short-term goal kind of person, so I love checking off each day as I finish it.

Recently, I started having shin pain (I have had this in the past), so I have been reading up on ChiRunning (I just got the DVD yesterday as well, but I haven't watched it yet). I am trying to change my posture, technique, etc... to prevent injury. It kind of feels like teaching an old dog new tricks, but I do think it's going to help me once I get the hang of it. I know I won't stick with it if I am in pain all the time, so I want to do this right!

Anyway, I am going to try to read back in this thread a little bit so I can be a little more informed about all of you. I didn't even know this WISH forum was here until I read about it in a Princess Half thread that I happened to find using Search. My ultimate goal is to run the Princess Half one year from now!

Happy Running!

So I finished W4D3 and it was better than W4D2, so that was good, but I have a question. :)

I feel great after I run and I am somewhat excited BEFORE the run, but kind of miserable during it. I really have to work mentally to keep my head in it and get through it (which I did. YAY! :cheer2:).

So my question is, when will the actual RUNNING part become fun? :) At this point, I would settle for not so mentally tiring. :)

Well, I just finished W6D2 and I'm still kind of where you are. I have brief moments where the running feels good, but not often. I still struggle to get through any run over 5 minutes. I do think much of it (if not all of it) is mental.

The action of running feels good and fun to me, just not sustained over a long period of time.

:rotfl::rotfl: I know just how you feel!!!

Hi again. Thanks for the warm welcomes, back about 10 pages. I had started then, but only being able to get outside to run, the weather hadn't cooperated til this week. I finished week one today, and am psyched. It definitely got easier doing it every other day, rather than one day a week. On my last jog today I did it for 90 seconds to see how hard that would be for week two, and it didn't seem too bad. And if I'm reading the program correctly, week one you jog 8 times for 60 secs, but in week 2, it's still the same 20 min, but you would only jog the 90 sec intervals for 6 times. Does that sound right?

Another question for you seasoned c25kers, do you always try to do every other day, or do you sometimes do two days in a row? I don't want to overdo it, but my works schedule is that it works out that way sometimes.

It's so nice to hear how successful everyone is. I now can imagine doing a 90 second jog, but 5 minutes sounds impossible, and to know you all have been here is so inspiring.

I only do the program 3 days a week - Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are cross-training days where I workout with the wii. Sundays I give myself completely off.

I'm with you. I completed C25K last June and then did run/walk intervals until a couple weeks ago when I decided to jump back in to C25K. I keep wondering when it's going to feel good and not be a constant struggle. I see people out running and they look so relaxed and free, floating along. I feel like I'm awkward, panting, near death.

I must say one thing that is definitely helping is cross training on the non running days. I'm doing Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred, only 27 mins but very challenging. When I don't feel like doing it, I remind myself how much easier it will be every day if I keep at it. If I take a few days off I have to pay the price of a much harder workout.

On that note, I just finished W5D3, I totally didn't even plan on doing the whole 20 mins, but I did it! I told myself I would do 10, then when I got to 10, I said try for 15 then you'll only have to do 5 after the break, then I got to 15 and said try 2 mins more, than 2 mins more, then I only had 1 minute left, seemed silly to stop with 1 min left, so I did it! Yay!

I think the 5k killed me. Not in terms of injury or anything, but now that it's over and it went well, I simply have ZERO motivation to run anymore. It's like all the air went out of the balloon.

I haven't done anything since Saturday's race and I can't seem to work up any interest in it at all. Sure, I know what I SHOULD do, but I'm not very good at responding to nagging-even when I'm the one doing the nagging! :lmao: It always produces the opposite reaction-the more I try to nag myself and lecture myself, the less likely I am to do whatever it is I'm nagging myself about.

I hope this is temporary and I get a boost somehow.

For me, motivation is a big part of continuing on to the next step. Sounds like it's time for you to find a local 10K or longer to sign up for. Even better, look at one of the Disney half-marathons!

3 miles in 36 is still very good! I did 36 minutes yesterday and was just barely over 2 miles. Talk about a turtle.

Yep, I'm turteling (is that a word? :)) right along with you! I've just started averaging miles just under fifteen minutes and am considering that a major victory.

Just started tonight. Didn't die. So all is good.

:lmao:

My goal is to do my runs five days a week. I've found over the last, oh, five weeks or so that I've only done it four days a week. There's always some excuse mid-week! But, I do try to spread them out, but my big thing is that I don't go more than two days without running. So, if I skip Monday, skip Tuesday, I make certain I'm running on Wednesday. Otherwise, I worry I'll lose my momentum.

That's how I did it too. I really didn't think I'd be able to do 20 minutes so I knew I was giving myself permission to stop after 10 minutes if I needed to. But, I just kept going and when I had 4 minutes or so left, I figured why stop now? I'd just make myself have to do it over on my next workout day. Best to get it over with. :rotfl:

Since starting the program, I have never had more than two days off between runs either. :thumbsup2 I like knowing which days are run days and which are cross-training days. I admit that I'm more lenient with my cross-training days. I have skipped a few here and there. But, I've yet to skip a run day.

For me it was during week 5. I have to cover the time and laps on the TM and listen to my iPod. I was surprised how easy the 20 minute run was.

I just finished week 6 today. I'm not fearing the workout any longer. I'm more excited about my better posture, flexibility and self-esteem. :goodvibes

When I started the program I weighed 238, during the first 4 weeks I went up to 245, but now I'm back to 237 and hope to continue the downward trend.

Keep it up. It'll come.

Glad you're still with us! It gets easier!

Welcome! It is nice to read and talk about how you are doing along with others...I know it helps to keep me motived and anxious to get on the TM every week...

I try not to think about the running while I am running. I am on a TM so I DVR shows from the night before that I watch the next day. This way I can watch the TV instead of stare at the clock! The hard part is keeping track of changing the speed when my intervals change.

:rotfl::rotfl: I know just how you feel!!!

I run 4 times a week, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. I feel like I need to run more than 3X per week like the plan says so I run 4X and this also gives me one extra day to get comfortable with that weeks interval. It works well for me and helps to build up my endurance.

W2 down! I was supposed to run today, but will have to make it up tomorrow was driving all over town with the kids & activities so I am really looking forward to starting W3 tomorrow! :thumbsup2

So after another week off. Yes, again I justified it with school. I really was busy every night.

I did W6D3 today and it was so hard. What is strange is that it's horrible when I'm running, but once I stop for about 10 seconds I feel completely fine. Then I start running and I feel exhausted.

I guess we'll see what happens with W7.

I took the last 2 days off. Friday I worked late and today I spent wandering around Epcot all day. Wish me luck W8D3 tomorrow. Yikes. I have not taken off 2 days in a row before although I walked a ton today.
