C25K! Anyone else in?

I was just reading through the last couple of pages of posts- YAY EVERYONE!:cheer2: It is really neat to see everyone realize their potential. Just a few weeks ago some couldn't imagine running 90 secs. or 3 minutes and now look at y'all go! I'm so proud and I had nothing to do with it!:lmao: This morning I ran the Komen 5K here in El Paso, it was so much fun! We ran in the Non-Competitive group but next time we'll definitely do the Competitive for two reasons: (1) we were having so much fun that we forgot to time ourselves :lmao:and we didn't have timing chips and (2) it is hard to run while 13,000 other people are walking. We had to run on the gravel sides of the road which was not fun on the feeties and with so many wonderful people it was difficult to get any real speed. The field was considerably smaller for the Competitve run group. It was a lot of fun though, kind of like a 3.1 mile game of Where's Waldo and Marco Polo!:cool1: At some point a volunteer gave us water during the run and I learned that I cannot drink from a bottle, run, bob and weave, and laugh all at the same time. This isn't really a surprise to anyone who knows me, I'm just not coordinated! Oh- another great thing about the race, people of ALL different sizes and styles running and bumping into one another. I hope all of you get the opportunity to do something similar soon! My next race- the St Paddy's Virtual 5K here at the Dis!:thumbsup2

Happy Sunday everyone! Sunday is usually my "no workout" day, but the weather here was BEAUTIFUL, and tomorrow it is supposed to be nasty, so I went ahead and did W3D1 today. It was sooooo much easier than I thought it would be. I wanted to keep going a bit, but DH had to get to a meeting at church, so I needed to get home to the DDs. I did a different route today, taking advantage of less traffic, and I don't know if it was that or the warmer temps that made it easier. I am glad some of the snow is FINALLY melting, maybe I can hit the track soon.

Hope everyone has a great week.. I am so proud of all of us. Way to go! :cool1:

I started this in October, but I was diagnosed with Melanoma and had surgery and could not run for a while. A couple of weeks, I spent 2 weeks on to build my confidence (it got easier). I'm on week 7 now! I have a race in April! I cannot wait. I would love to be able to finish in less than 30 minutes, but we shall see. I'm having to do all my running on a treadmill, because of snow/bad weather.

W1D1- BUST

I’ve been dreading this day for the past 2 ½ weeks. That’s how long it has taken me to start… maybe even longer. Ohh.. Even just sitting here looking at that treadmill today makes me exhausted and angry.

Finally, at around 635pm: I did it. I got ready and got my butt on the Treadmill. I wasn’t nervous, just excited to finally get in there and start the C25K program. I used a Podcast to tell me when I should jog/walk and everything was going well until I heard loud pounding on the Wall. Arugh.. :scared1:
One of neighbours clearly where not happy with the noise. :sad1: We live in a nearly built condo(still being built), We each have two floors of living space. We have an upper unit which means there are students who live below us who also have two floors. There are Condo’s on each side of us. It’s mostly young professionals and students, very few families with children.
With that, I stopped.

My totals for today:
Speed: 3.7 for warm up, 5.7 for run
Duration: 13 minutes
Distance: ?

I"m going to re-do W1D1 tomorrow after work at work! :yay:

Way to go! I finished W4D3 as well today. Got through easier than day 1 or 2, that's for sure. It goes better for me as long as I don't glance at the time remaining on the treadmill:eek:

I always make sure to try and not look at the time on the treadmill.
It always seems to go so much slower.

Good luck to everyone starting!

I have college class after school tomorrow so I went ahead and tried W5D2 today. Went great, I liked the 5 minute intervals better though. I started getting a little tired around the 4 minute mark of the 2nd interval, but I finished it with a little motivation. I was nervous for this one, but now I'm really nervous for D3. That's an extra 4 minutes from today, plus it's no break inbetween. I'm not sure why I'm so unsure of D3 because I never used to be able to run for more than 15 seconds at a time and now I'm running 8 minutes straight! I'm sure I can do it, but it'll be a tough run.

Hope you all have a great evening.

Wow! 5.7 for your running speed starting out on Week 1, Day 1? That's ambitious! Remember that the point of the program is to get moving/running, but you don't need to run an almost-ten minute mile straight off the bat. Unless you want to!!! So, just ignore this post if you are happy with that speed. Maybe I was just reading into your post that you found the workout a little intense. :goodvibes

Sorry you had to deal with a neighbor pounding on the wall. Seems a little overboard that they would be concerned with any type of noise at 6:30 in the evening!!

got myself out there on Saturday and did Week 4 again....but I think I'm going to move on this week to Week 5 day 1. The problem for me is the last 5 minute run, and I think it's because I only get 90 seconds of rest before I do it. I really think that the 5 run/3 walk thing is going to work better for me.

Went biking yesterday for the first time in MONTHS and boy am I feeling that today!

Finished Week Three and did very well; I also added a few more minutes running time to the end. I am anxious to start Week Four - hopefully I'll be able to start it tomorrow.

I actually found my speeds perfect and I was comfortable with them. I didn't find the workout a little intense... I was just dealing with a mental block: not wanting to start... but i've started now...:woohoo:

I looked through the Noise by-laws in the city, I have until 11pm. I think 630pm was reasonable unless they work shift work. :confused3

Congrats. I'm so envious...

Well, I had to repeat both Weeks One and Two before I could start Week Three. But I am glad I did. I felt so much more prepared for last week, and I can't wait to start this week.

Keep working - you will do it!!! We all had to do that dreaded Week One!

Hang in there it gets easier. Sorry about the sucky neighbors.

W6D1 completed.........BUT it wasnt pretty. I just was not feeling it today. I had to force myself through the whole thing. My body was rebeling against me or something. My time sucked too. I barley finished the 3.1 miles in 48 min ( with walk run intervals) Uuuuggghhh.... Oh well hopefully tomorrow will be better. My husband reassured me this happens to all runners. You will have good days and bad ones.

You guys are all making me feel bad. I don't have a treadmill, doing it all outside and not worrying about the distance at all. I feel like such a turtle, I'm not really sure you can call what I do running, it's barely a jog a times. I am scared to go to the "trail" and let the walkers pass me while I am running. I am thinking, get my endurance up, then worry about the speed once I finish the program....

Do not worry about what others are doing! Seriously! Every body is different. It doesn't matter how fast you are going. What matters is how your body is handling it. Compared to most here, I go very slow. But, I'm okay with that. I don't want an injury and I know that the best thing is to take this process slowly to build up not only my endurance, but also my joints, muscles, etc.

Speed is just a number. I keep track of mine so that I can see any improvements I've made, but it really doesn't matter. I'm not planning on going out and winning a marathon or any other race for that matter. I just want to be able to finish. I can't do that if I'm injured or if I'm going too hard for my body. You need to go at the speed that works for you.

And I really suggest reading any of John Bingham's books. He is a self-proclaimed slow walker/runner and there are benefits to that. :)

Oh gosh I go really slow. I call it wogging. Not walking not quite jogging. LOL. Just go for endurance I think that is what is important first.

Ugh. Mental blocks! No fun! I hope you were able to use your treadmill today with no wall thumping from your neighbors. Goodness, if they do shift work and sleep at odd times, you think they would consider that before moving into a condo where people are likely to be up and moving during the early evening!

"Turtle" - that's me, too! A couple of weeks ago when I was visiting my parents in Southern California, I took my brother's dog (a miniature schnauzer) with me on my "wog" (like that term, IWishForDisney!). That was the week/day where I had three five minute run intervals. I figure I go so slow on my running intervals, the dog probably wouldn't even notice. Instead, every time I started my wog, he plopped himself down and refused to move at all until I got him encouraged to keep moving. We must have looked like quite the comedy routine! :rotfl: Apparently my "wogs" were faster than I thought, though I know I'm still definitely not speedy. There will probably be walkers who finish before me at my first official 5K.

That reminds me, I have officially signed up for a real 5K! It's the Sacramento Zoo Zoom on April 11th. I'm really excited! I'm going to do the virtual Shamrock 5K here on the WISH board, too, but running with a bunch of other people is definitely something I'm looking forward to now that I'm on Week 7.

don't compare yourself to other people-compare yourself to YOU.

My biggest hurdle is just getting started-I count any day that I actually exercise as a success-no matter what I do or how quickly I do it.

W5D1 completed. :thumbsup2 It went really well. Running is starting to feel more natural to me and that's a great feeling.

I did find today a bit easier than week 4. The longer recoup times really helped. And that 4th interval was always the tough one so cutting it down to 3 made it seem easier anyway.

Awesome...I was wondering how you'd do. Doing mine later today.
