C25K! Anyone else in?

I lost 2 lbs. this week for a total of 7 lbs since I started this program on January 21st!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Awesome work!!!

Thanks for answering my questions for me. I cant believe I did a mile at nearly 5.0 that seriously is amazing for me. My husband will never believe it when I tell him. I did get more sore the longer my runs were plus I have a back injury so I take Motrin every night and a hot bath after the run to relax the muscles. I really felt all of my 41 years today but I can run mile at age 41 something I could not do when I was 21 and much smaller. I guess what I find so shocking is 3 weeks ago I didnt think I could make it 90 seconds. It really hit home today. 16 min mile is doable for me. I might sign up for the Disney 5K if there are spots open. :goodvibes

It's funny because I have read through this entire thread as well as another one from last year and everyone always starts out saying they can't imagine running for 20 minutes straight. Yet, they all get there. I know it still seems impossible to me, but not as impossible as it seemed 4 weeks ago. :thumbsup2

If you're talking about doing the 5K, I don't believe they sweep in that race - only in the half and full marathons.

Darn the 5K (Royal Family) is filled up for the Princess weekend. I wanted to do this so bad too. Oh well you snooze you loose I guess. Now I am looking at the wine and dine Halloween one at double the price. Geez...

I did it! I did all of the run intervals for week 4. :dancer: Wasn't easy, but I just didn't give myself an option. My legs were pretty sore from the side lunges I did yesterday, but that went away once I got warmed up. My legs are killing me now though. :rolleyes1 Walking is an issue. Hoping they feel better tomorrow so I can take the boys on a hike and enjoy the warmer weather.

For those who are on week 5 or later, did you find W5D1 was easier than week four? I'm thinking three 5-minute intervals might be easier than the 4 intervals in week 4? :confused3 Just wondering if I should take another day on week 4 or push on to week 5.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :goodvibes

CONGRATS!!!

I did find week 5 day 1 easier than week 4 the longer recoups and shorter interval was way easier for me. Have fun this weekend. :goodvibes

We are all sick so I am taking the weekend off.

Thanks for the answers everyone!

I started at W5D1 and did it at 5mph.
What a difference 1mph makes! I did very well and I actually ran farther doing the 5 minute intervals than I did when I did my usually 3/2 minute intervals at 6mph. I don't feel tired like I did during my 6 mph. This makes me so much happier, I will definately keep it at 5mph! Nervous for the 8 minutes for next time, but I'm sure I can do it, it's only a minute more than I did today. I will be hopping back on this thread with updates now that I see where I'm at on the plan.

Way to go! I finished W4D3 as well today. Got through easier than day 1 or 2, that's for sure. It goes better for me as long as I don't glance at the time remaining on the treadmill:eek:

I finished the last day of Week 6 today. So, it's all long runs from this point on. In some ways, I miss the intervals. Not because I can't do the longer runs, I feel like I'm adjusting pretty well to them, in fact. But there's something about having a "Plan" to follow that helped me keep moving along, knowing each run was a step in the larger pattern. Has anyone else who has started week 7 felt that way?

Glad slowing down helped. :thumbsup2

Good for you! :cool1: Thanks for encouraging me and telling me I could do it. I thought of your words during that final interval. :goodvibes

I can understand that. I find intervals really make the time pass quickly. I'm going to start working on my playlist to listen to once I have longer runs.

OK I am going to try and run today. I am sick of being in the house. I will let everyone know how I make out. :goodvibes

Good morning.:) My name is Kathy, and I want to be a C25Ker too!! I would love to join you all officially on this thread. I did W1D1 on monday, and almost came here after that but chickened out, thinking, what if I don't keep it up. I don't want to be a quitter. Yesterday I did it again, and those 60 second jogs are hard, but I did all of them!! The first day it was hard, but it was a little easier the second time. There seems to be so much support here, and I am so inspired by all the success. To know all of you were back at day one, and doing so much is so motivating for me.

I guess what I find so shocking is 3 weeks ago I didnt think I could make it 90 seconds. It really hit home today. 16 min mile is doable for me. I might sign up for the Disney 5K if there are spots open. :goodvibes
90 seconds seems daunting to me, but look at you now. It is so great to see your success, and know that you were where I am 4 weeks ago.

Keep it up if I can do this anyone can. Believe me. I have 60 pounds more to loose and was a total couch potatoe.
Thanks for sharing. I have been overweight for so long, and don't know what my goal weight will be, but I have 60 pounds to get into the healthy bmi category. My first goal is to just be overweight, which will be to lose 32 more pounds.

I just recently finished the C25K. I LOVED it. When I started in November, those 1 minute running stretches were killer. Now I can comfortably run for 40 plus minutes. I am aiming for the WDW Marathon next year.
Love to hear this, and know you all started where I'm starting.

IWISHFORDISNEY- When I began the program in September there were several weeks that I repeated because I didn't feel ready to move on to the next set of more challenging intervals. That is a great aspect of C25K, adaptability. I'd have to go back through my running journals but I know that I repeated at least one whole week and there were many times that I repeated Week Whatever Day Whatever until I ran the whole "running" segment per the program. It took me three tries to run Week 5 Day 3 (20 min.) without walking which is when I truly realized how mental running is. I could probably have ran 20 minutes the first time but mentally I gave up or found an excuse. It was enlightening to realize that mentally I wasn't as tough as I had imagined. Now when I run, I feel like I am conditioning my body and mind. Wow, that sounds cheesy!:lmao: Anyway, I think that repeating weeks or days that are really challenging is a good idea. Don't push too hard, too fast because, as we all know, that is the best way to burn out and quit all together. The flip side of that is to not get too comfy at any one week or day. In order to improve we have to push outside of our comfort zones.
Great advice. I'm starting this program, with the attitude that I'll repeat weeks if I need to, but I just want to stick with it. I love that it is 3 day's week, and I deserve to commit to 90 min to myself each week.

"The miracle isn't that I finished, the miracle is that I had the courage to start"
Great quote. :thumbsup2

Thanks to all for your inspiration.

:welcome: Kathy

Good for you for starting and so glad you decided to join us. All of us were in the same spot you were just a few short weeks ago. And soon you'll be where we are. :thumbsup2

W5D3 in the books. I did my 20min without any problems at all. Now that I have ahold of my breathing it is just a matter of my body catching up. I actually went 31 min. My neighbor is an older gentlmen that I talk to daily walking our dogs. He looks to be in his 70's maybe closing in on 80. He met me at about my 10min mark and asked if he could join me. I was like OK well we were chatting a little and by the time I looked down my arm band said 31 min. I told him I had to stop because I was physically feeling it. He said I was seeing how long I could keep you going. He is an ex Marine and has been following me every day. :rotfl: So it can be done. I am just so happy I found everyone here. The only thing is I still have that point between 1min 30 sec and 3 min where I am winded until my body adjusts it breathing pattern. Doesn anyone know if this will always be this way or goes away. It is easy to push through that now but annoying.

What a cool experience! Glad you were able to do it. Distraction is a great thing. :thumbsup2

I finished W3D1 today. :yay: I thought this one was kind of short, so after the last 3 minute walk, I started running until I couldn't run any more. I added 15 MINUTES of running!!! I can't believe it. I don't know where it came from or if I can do it again, but I'm so excited to keep going. Also, I want to give a big thank you to whoever talked about the 3/2 breathing. It saved me from keeling over many times. It really works for me. Looking forward to next time!! :woohoo:

I can understand that. I find intervals really make the time pass quickly. I'm going to start working on my playlist to listen to once I have longer runs.

Maybe the intervals are the equivalent to Disney's turns in the queues. Each turn breaks up the bigger line a bit so the entire line doesn't seem so long. I like your idea of working on your playlist for the longer runs. I've put together a playlist myself that I'm enjoying. Before this last week I just listened to my audiobooks, but it's nice to mix it up a little. And the songs do kind of have the same effect of chunking up the time.

I'm glad you were feeling well enough to get out and run! How's your DS doing? That's too funny about your neighbor! You've got a great attitude about it, because I can see being irritated, too. I'm guessing he must be a sweet guy to make it funny for you.

I do find that there's a time at the beginning that my body doesn't want to move as easily. I kind of think of it like my body's an engine that's warming up and all the components are getting lubed up.

I am not liking the W6D1 intervals I think I might do W6D2 twice. Day one is just to confusing to me. Any thoughts on that change. I dont think it would matter much.

Where is WillonlyflytoDisney and PeterPan miss you two?

Welcome Kathy to our group :grouphug: glad you joined in.

Now what to do the rest of the day I really feel great after this mornings accomplishment.:woohoo:

My son seems to be better this after noon he was having dry heaves last night again but woke up and ate a donut of all things (Our Sunday treat). Thanks for asking. Maybe we can go over to Port Canaveral and watch the ships go out this afternoon. Not to much energy required for that. LOL.
