Button Question!

So our upcoming trip will be our very first trip to the World, so I was looking into getting those buttons... BUT it is also our two year anniversary trip that we paid for ourselves, our anniversary is five days before, but this is our gift to each other. Would getting a button for that be considered cheating? Four days before is also my 21st birthday, and we were thinking about doing a birthday dinner for me at the world as well, but I think I've decided not to get a button for that. (Our anniversary falls the day before my birthday, convenient for DBF who only has to buy me one gift for two occasions! )

But do you think it would abusive to get two buttons? I wasn't planning on wearing them at the same time, just our anniversary buttons when we went to BOG for what we will consider our "anniversary dinner." And our first time buttons to when we go to each park for the first time.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Feel free to get whatever buttons you'd like.

Have fun!

You can wear seventeen buttons if you want to. Disney doesn't mind.

Thanks! I didn't want to hog all the pixie dust, although it is very tempting. :goodvibes

Funny story...sort of. Friends of ours went down to WDW at the same time we were there. There was one person in the group that had never been to WDW, so was wearing a '1st time at WDW' button. I commented on it and he told me that people wearing those buttons get lots of free stuff and special attention..maybe characters to go on rides with. I told him I didn't think that was the case...'oh no, you're wrong. They told me all sorts of good stuff was going to happen and I will get lots of free stuff like ice creams and popcorn and stuff like that.' Well, this is an adult that has some mild 'issues', so I wasn't going to get into an argument with him about it. So...saw them just before they left. Man, was that guy peeved..to put it mildly. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary had happened for him. Told me that they had lied to him and he was writing a letter as soon as he got home!

With that in mind....please don't expect a whole lot to happen. I've been there for my 50th birthday, also my first time at WDW, my 20th anniversary, my dd's 6th and 13th birthdays...nothing out of the ordinary happened. My dd did get a lot of happy birthdays but that was about it. Cupcakes were given out at breakfast at CMs. Other than that? Not a thing...even though special tee shirts and buttons were worn. Anything special that I wanted to have happen, I planned for myself.

You will get a lot of anniversary good wishes from CMs and guests alike though...and that's always nice.

Not really expecting anything to happen, I just appreciate well wishes, that's always fun :) I think the only thing I'm really hoping to happen is to have a magical time, and that's only up to DBF and I to make happen :wizard:

If you have a birthday within throwing distance of your trip, get a button. If you guys splurged on the trip for your anniversary, get a button. Your first trip? get a button. Get a button celebrating you wearing buttons.

I would totally take one day and wear all of them. Get mad pics everywhere. Enjoy the attention (you WILL get told "Happy Birthday" a lot). In general, use the buttons to express what you are celebrating. It's part of what you, as a guest, bring to WDW. Then I would stick the buttons into a mousekeeping towel animal and let them sit in the room till it's time to take them home. Souvenirs well earned.

I'll give you my cell # if you like, if anyone gives you grief over being off by a day or two in either direction dial me up and hand the phone to them and I will threaten them with physical violence for you.

Seriously, the 'benefit' of wearing a button is that you get congratulated or wished happy birthday a LOT. That's it. Magic moments and pixie dust is just not going to follow you around because of your button, and people who ascribe that sort of value to them are delusional.

Because of what I do, I'm sometimes away for months at a time. When I get back, it's kind of a big deal and we go to WDW. My two kids don't celebrate their birthdays until I get back so even though their actual b-day may be weeks or months past, each of them gets a birthday dinner in WDW complete with button.

I had one snotty guest tell my 8 yr old daughter that her May b-day was too far back for her to be wearing a button in August. My kiddo looked right at her and said, "But we couldn't celebrate my birthday until now because Daddy was blown up by an IED in May and we thought he might die. Kind of a 1st world problem, this button thing, huh?". Now to be clear, the extent of my injury was a ruptured eardrum and I wasn't delayed because of an IED. I'm not a soldier but I sometimes take jobs in exotic locations. My daughter has a flair for the dramatic.

I just get them all the time they are free and you certainly are paying enough to get into the park for them. I buy stuff from China factories and I can tell you they pay hardly anything for those it probably cost more to print the maps with the cost of ink then the buttons.

This just made my day! I think your daughter I would get along very well! hahaha She should consider theatre maybe. Thank you for the advice! I'm excited about the buttons! I've gone to DL during so many occasions and I've never gotten a button myself! The one time a cast member gave me a Cars button, someone stole it, so I'm hoping this won't happen again. :)

That last part got me cracking up. Such an appropriate response. ROTF
Good luck with that eardrum I hear they can be tough. :)

We'll have first trip buttons, anniversary buttons (our anniversary is 4 days before, but we had to push our trip back to attend a wedding 2 days before we go), and I'll get a birthday button for my last day as I'll be less than a week after, but I work in a school and we start back on my birthday, so I had to be back early enough to get over the jet lag).

We'll celebrate both events whilst we are there with special meals, so it'd be nice to get a "happy anniversary" or "happy birthday" greeting from people. Our anniversary is noted on our booking, and so we've been congratulated every time I've called to speak to them on the phone, and it's made me smile every time too.

We are getting First Visit buttons and Anniversary buttons. Our 25th anniversary is actually a few weeks before, but this is our anniversary trip! DH will also be getting a Birthday button because we will be there on his actual birthday.

One year my DH insisted on wearing his Anniversary button around the park all day on May 14... the date of his wedding anniversary to wife #1, gone 15 years now via divorce. It was so funny watching the reactions as CMs congratulated him and asked where his wife was and he replied that they had divorced and he was celebrating in WDW.

Wear whatever buttons you like and have fun with it.

I fully intend on rocking a First Timer button AND an Anniversary button like every single day! Why not? Live it up!

OMG, this OP-er is so thoughtful it is cute. I hope you are at WDW when I am there on vacation next week and that all of the visitors are as kind as you!

What would be considered a reasonable amount of time after/before a bday toleware a pin? We had bdays in feb, march and one coming up in July lol (oh and early August) . Would it be weird if 5 of us celebrated that?

Awwww, thank you! I try really hard to be thoughtful and courteous, I work retail and have learned that its really the only way to try and be happy, just being a good person, and not harboring so much negativity and entitlement, especially at Disney. Everyone is just trying to have a magical time. I'll be there May 19-24 :upsidedow

I would not worry about it, nobody but you knows when your bdays were anyway. DW has bday in June, Mine is August (60 for both of us) and our anniv is end of Sept. (41 yrs) We have a Disney trip planned for first of Dec and plan on getting bday buttons and anniv buttons to celebrate.:cool1:

I got more "Happy Birthday!!!"s in the 3 days I wore the button than I have in my entire life. I got a free strawberry cheesecake (which was AWESOME) at Electric Umbrella when we bought dinner one night, and an employee gave my group 2 extra FP to use anywhere we wanted (which was *AWESOME* since we were at EPCOT, we already had Soarin' FP so we got Test Track and Mission Space).

I even got some "Happy Birthday"s from other guests that were wearing buttons :) Makes a nice ice breaker if you want to start talking to someone.
