What's with the "respect the President" regardless of what
he does or who he is? I have NO respect for the current President and it's his fault. He IS a jerk and he deserves NO
respect. He's just a man and not a very classy one at that.
He's always laughing at people outloud, he calls reporters
horrible names, he's arrogant, he lies, he's the luckiest son
in the whole world that his parents have bought him all his
happiness. I hope to goodness I can give my son half of
what he's been given. He's earned none of what he has or
where he is and the credit for his accomplishments(as you probably call them) go to other people. He deserves absolutely
NO respect. He does not respect the lives of other people; those
in the armed services or those in other countries. He's a country
bumpkin in spite of his parents rabid attempts to get him educated. He's simply AWFUL and I am so ashamed that he
is POTUS. I even respected Richard Nixon a little because he
was brilliant while evil and arrogant. W doesn't even have that.

Welcome to the US Totalia!! We need more people here with
their eyes open! We'd love to have you as a citizen if someday
you choose that! BTW, I love your country and have been there
many times. The people are warm and it's beautiful!

Welcome to the boards Hogfan!
You will fit in well with all the openminded intellectuals
we already have posting here. :)
I'm an American so I can say anything I want, right?

I won't be posting much for the next two weeks as I'm
campaigning when I'm not working or sleeping(DIS when
I SHOULD be sleeping) so until then-au revoir.

I don't think I've been disrespectful towards the OP or her country- There is so much venom in this election I can't wait until it's over.

And Shortbun- Bush was born into his situation...Kerry married into his not once but TWICE... whose the lucky one here? Unless you want to concede that Kerry worked at marrying his 2 well to do wives....

Yeah Kerry's lucky too! But, "worked at it"? I doubt it.
My post was why I do not respect W just because he's
POTUS. I think that's a dumb premise unless you are
5 and we're talking about the principal! I haven't
been 5 in a long time:( but I'm personally happy to be
free from those stereotypical rules that children have to
live by. That is ONE are where my inner child will not be
visited.

Totalia,

I am still waiting for you to address the issue of the draft, because you made it a point in one of your posts as a reason we should not vote for him. Are you aware that he has stated that he will NOT reinstate the draft? And what gave you the impression that he would in the first place?

Also, you still haven't provided a quote/link supporting your contention, in your OP, that Bush called Canada a 'third world country'..could you please clarify your position on these 2 issues?

Also, is your BF considerably younger than you?

TIA

I find it humorous how some on this board have and show no respect for the President, and are the first ones that cry when they are shown no respect on these boards. I don't agree with either not showing respect to our President or being disrespectful to other posters, we can be critical of both each other and the President, but respectfully. Totalia, none of your post is based on fact, the fear of the draft, and the fact the Bush NEVER called Canada a 3rd world, and you have said nothing about this fact since your opening thread. I'm sorry some people were rude to you, but I get the feeling, thats kinda what you were hoping for. It is a very provocative thread and you knew MANY people would be angry by it. I don't know you and I've never seen another post from you before, it was just a feeling I got when I read it, that you were looking to get a rise out of people. It worked!:wave2:

I'm wondering about your assertion that President Bush has such an impact on you as a Canadian. In what way(s) are you affected by Mr. Bush's presence in the White House?

well Shortbun you are intitled to your opinions and those that don't feel the same way are intitled to theirs. I don't like Kerry, I think he is going to send this country down the toilet, but IF he gets elected I will respect him and not call him names because he is our President.

It won't influence my vote but I'm interested in all viewpoints even those of non-citizens. Besides what the US does certainly affects the rest of the world.

I would also like to say welcome ahead of time. :)

Thank you Planogirl. It's appreciated.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Seriously, I don't have a problem with the American people. It's Bush that I have the problem with. Respect is earned, its not given just because someone has a title.

I'd love to know why, when you talk about BUSH, people bring up KERRY. You know what? This thread was about Bush, NOT Kerry. I think Kerry is the lesser of two evils though it'd make me happy if neither of them won at this point (yes I'm fully aware that will never happen).

How is it that because KERRY has done stupid things, that automatically seems to make Bush ok in so many peoples minds? Both of them are idiots.

That's because, considering the way I've been treated in this thread so far, I'm not going to bother defending it. You wouldn't believe me no matter what I posted and if I gave a location where I saw or or heard it, you'd think that its a lie.

Kind of pointless to bother don't you think since you wouldn't believe it either way?

And why are you asking about my fiance? No, he's 30 (I'm 28). And for that matter, why do you care?

I haven't responded because of the replies that have been posted. As I said in the above reply, I'm not going to bother posting where and when I heard it because you wouldn't believe me anyway. That much is obvious.

I've been attacked since the first post.

If I wanted to get a rise out of people, I can think of better ways than this.

You obviously haven't read every post in this thread.

Do I have to reiterate it again because you can't be bothered to read everything?

Fine.

1. MY FIANCE is AMERICAN.

2. I AM MOVING TO THE STATES AND WILL BECOME A CITIZEN AT SOME POINT UNLESS BUSH DECIDES TO CLOSE THE BORDER

3. SOME OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS ARE AMERICAN AND LIVE IN THE US

Do you still think that what Bush does has no impact on my life? Think again.

----------------------------------

Oh and btw everyone, your welcome to say you hate my Prime Minister if you want. The Liberals and the Conservatives are both idiots and Paul Martin is no better than Jean Chretien (whom I loathed). They are all lying thieves. When the conservatives are in power, people lose jobs. When the liberals are in power, they steal money. I'd rather vote Reform at this point though they aren't much better than the others. At least they are the lesser evil.

Interesting....

Canadian MP calls U.S. 'idiots'

Thursday, August 26, 2004 Posted: 11:32 AM EDT (1532 GMT)

OTTAWA, Canada (Reuters) -- Canadian Member of Parliament Carolyn Parrish had said she hated "damned Americans" and called them *******s in the run-up to the Iraq war.

She found a new moniker, idiots, on Wednesday in discussing the planned U.S. missile defense system.

"We are not joining the coalition of the idiots. We are joining the coalition of the wise," the Liberal legislator told a small group of demonstrators.

Parrish, who had to apologize for her "*******s" remarks last year, at first denied using the word idiots, and when reporters pointed out they had her remarks on tape, she said: "I don't mean Americans are idiots."

Parrish then begged reporters not to use the remarks: "Please guys don't put that on tape," she said. "I already got into trouble once.... Really, please, I've had enough trouble."

Four hours later, however, she hardened her line.

"The last one was a really stupid thing to say," she told Reuters. "*******s is an inappropriate word. Idiots is a term people use in everyday conversation," she told Reuters.

"They tortured people in Iraq, they (the Iraqis) have no weapons of mass destruction. Could somebody explain to me whether you think they're idiots or geniuses?"

The top spokeswoman for former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, Francoise Ducros, had to resign in 2002 for calling President George W. Bush a moron.

Chretien's successor, Prime Minister Paul Martin, has pledged to put relations with Canada's largest trading partner on a warmer footing.

Martin said after Parrish's latest remarks that the debate about missile defense, intended to guard against attacks from what the United States calls rogue states, was "very, very important."

"There is no room in this debate for that kind of language," he told reporters, waving his hand dismissively. "You're going to get very strongly held views but let me tell you those strongly held views have got to be expressed in language that is acceptable."

But Parrish refused to back down.

"That's Mr. Martin's opinion," she told Reuters. "No, I'm not going to apologize.

I've read your posts.

I have relatives and friends in the US. Unless they are in the military, they are far more likely to be affected by their state governments than by the feds.

Respectfully, if I were in your position, I would seriously reconsider moving to the States regardless of the outcome of this election - as you've astutely noted about our own political system, I don't think things would be drastically different under Kerry (with the possible exception being the prosecution of the war on terror).

It must be hard to be considered the red haired stepchild of the continent. If you don't like who we choose to be our president then urge your government to train armies so we don't have to take care of you anymore.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

but they have such a nice set up, Microcell. They get our protection while fooling themselves into believing the world would be a safer place without us.

I still assert that your claim to be an "undecided" voter was
disingenuous. And, I don't care how you refer to "Kerry" nor
what you think of my opinions since I don't feel yours are
or were totally honest at times. You can count on me saying
exactly what I feel and mean all the time. For you to have
claimed to have been undecided and all of a sudden become
this rabid George Bush supporter is unbelievable but ......well,
it's what you say. Blind respect imho is a dark road toward
trouble. Those who earn my respect, get it. Titles do not
a respectable person make. Why would anyone use that as
criteria for respect in an elected office? I don't blindly follow
anyone, any team, any man or woman. Ya gotta earn me-you
haven't and neither has the current President.

Are you really this clueless? The POTUS impacts the whole
world with his actions. You and George Bush need to undestand how the world works. His ignorance is inexcusable, yours is
ok since you are simply a poster on the DIS but geez - he's
the "leader of the free world", just ask him!!!!!
Name one thing he does that does NOT impact other countries
directly other than personal activities like eat, sleep and elimination. The worst thing about this is that he thinks he's
playing this huge game of RISK and none of the colateral damage
matters because it doesn't directly change his live or the lives
of his "base."

(as he wades through the baloney....)

Just one?

Ok, appointing a federal judge in Alabama.

Do you really hold him in such low regard to think he doesn't have any compassion for people other than himself or his family? I I suppose you believe he must have all those people that really like him fooled. Or worse, brainwashed.

You may not admit it openly, but I think your hatred for Bush has blinded you.

I'm really not clueless. Try dropping the hyperbole and give me a concrete example. Beyond the current ban on Canadian beef, and perhaps softwood lumber (which has been resolved) I can't think of any. We haven't committed troops (beyond Afghanistan) which are under US control.

Last time I checked, we were still a sovereign nation, with our own currency, government and intact borders.
