Bush Supporters

What it's supposed to mean is that I've listened to several reports about people in Florida complaining because they believe the disaster relief is not being equitably distributed and is being used for political gain.
...as opposed to people spreading such "stories" (like the "secret draft" spam) for political gain???

As a historical side note, Bush's father was hurt during the 1992 campaign by the charges that FEMA didn't respond fast enough in Florida after Hurricane Andrew. The perception was that Bush Sr. "didn't care". I doubt that lesson was lost on W... not to mention the fact that the Gov. of Florida has a pretty good connection in Washington.

Back in Iraq are we? Did you say Saddam got 100% of the vote in his last election? If that is not what you meant, I apologize. If so, why wouldn't he? If you did not vote for him, you would end up in one of the mass graves like the ones they are opening at this very moment. They are filled with men, women and children of all ages, shot in the head. A pregnant women shot in the face. They will now have forensic evidence to use against the dictator they were forced to vote 100% for without feeling intimidated.

As far as Totalia, if her BF is in the military, why did he join? Did he never think he would be called to be on a war front? Anyone that joins active duty should take that risk into consideration. If she is so unhappy with America's leadership, why is she coming here? Just to clarify before I'm flamed, I'm not saying that anyone who does not like Bush should not be here, I am saying that any sitting President is OUR president, not Canada's or any other country's. They have no rights where our vote is concerned.

Isn't this a case of the kettle calling the pot black? Or maybe it's more along the lines of people in glass houses..... Go look at the threads on the Spain election and you will find many Americans calling the Spanish voters all kinds of dirty names for voting against the pro-bush incumbent government.

If I recall, there were very few who actually addressed Spanish voters in such a manner. A lot more people lamented the fact that the result will probably encourage terrorists. Not the same thing.

I'll go out on a limb and theorize that the OP is referring to the debate. When asked about the ban on importing prescription drugs from Canada, Bush said "I just want to make sure they're safe."

Knowing the track record of the OP, I'd say that was twisted into Bush saying that Canada is a third world country. Am I right? Too late!

Very good catch. And you are so right about the OP's track record. ::yes::

Kendra: You are doing very well at holding back any sarcastic remarks and trying to understand and counter the OP's comments. You are a much better person than I. :teeth:

Thanks. . .but, I had an ulterior motive going . . . that she'd see reason.

Speaking of outsiders trying to influence elections, check this out... The Guardian, London's left-leaning newspaper is launching an effort to swing the vote in Clark County, OH. Here's the plan from their web site:
Operation Clark County

The result of the American election in less than three weeks could have huge consequences for the whole world. Yet those of us outside the 50 states have had no say in it. Until now, that is.

In the spirit of the Declaration of Independence's pledge to show "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind", we have come up with a unique way for non-Americans to express your views on the policies and candidates in this election to some of the people best placed to decide its outcome. It's not quite a vote, but it's a chance to influence how a very important vote will be cast. Or, at the very least, make a new penpal.

It works like this. By typing your email address into the box on this page, you will receive the name and address of a voter in Clark County, Ohio. You may not have heard of it, but it's one of the most marginal areas in one of the most marginal states: at the last election, just 324 votes separated Democrats from Republicans. It's a place where a change of mind among just a few voters could make a real difference.

Writing to a Clark County voter is a chance to explain how US policies effect you personally, and the rest of the world more generally, and who you hope they will send to the White House. It may even persuade someone to use their vote at all.
A few tips about writing to Clark County:

- Be courteous. Remember that it's unusual to receive a lobbying letter from someone in another country. Think about how you would respond if you received a letter from Ohio urging you to vote for Tony Blair – or Michael Howard . . .

- Don't make any assumptions about the voter with whom you have been matched. His or her name comes from the publicly available voters' roll. The voter has not registered any party affiliation. (We don't want individual Clark County voters bombarded with lobbying letters so this site will assign only one name and address to each user – please don't pass yours on to anyone else.)

- Explain why you think they should pay the slightest bit of attention to what you think about their election. Remember, charm will be far more effective than hectoring.

- Of course, who you urge your voter to support is entirely up to you. On October 20 we will publish a selection of the most persuasive letters to Clark County in the Guardian. To have yours considered, please email a copy to clark.county@guardian.co.uk.

That, for now, is our part. Over to you.

Hmmmm... And I wonder who the average Guardian reader would like to see elected?!?!? For a clue, here's the guy that they've hired to write a weekly column from the American perspective on the election: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/markosmoulitsas/story/0,,1325454,00.html

Wow! Totalia, maybe you and your fiance could go to London then-- and have the best of both worlds.

Luckily I don't live in OH but I would not appreciate having my name and address sent to just anyone searching for voter registrations. Is this information readily available for all states? As if I don't get enough unsolicited mail already. Jeeesh!

I was going to stay out of this thread even though Ive read it through several times.
This directly affects me as my dh is Canadian and we are living in the States. I have lived back and forth my whole life but am and American Citizen.

That being said I have to say that NOT all Canadians feel this way! I know my Inlaws in Calgary and Victoria do not feel this way and they support Bush ( if they could) So this isnt a country wide epidemic as many would have us believe. Maybe because theyre "out west" that has some influence. At any rate, my point is it isnt like ALL of Canada is anti Bush.

All of that aside I am FURIOUS that the The Guardian would have this type of a campaign!!! That is horrible!

ok it popped into my head so i have to ask?

anyone think of JJ/VH after reading this? lol

Totalia: After reading Kendra I realized where
I knew your "tone" from... I posted in reply to
your callous reponse to Dan's remembrance
of our country's tragedy.
I said what I meant, and I meant what I said,
I feel very sad for any victim that reads what you posted.

After reading your diatribe a page or two back
on this post, all I can say is, "WHEW!"
You are really giving our President some power!!
Your fear speaks volumes...

I agree with other postr's here, as well,
I recognize your tactics from other threads.
You start provocative threads,
and I suspect you're sitting back each day
reading our responses, and chuckling.
Especially when some of us get passionate
and go OT for a bit...

Why don't you take some of their suggestions
and offer some honest Titles, and more precise
information when you attack our President
and the values that many Americans (including me) hold?
You're very opinionated for someone who
can't truly influence our country unless we want you to,
but that's your tactic with this thread, right?

Grrrrrrrrrreat, if you don't like our country, and hate our President, why move here? Stay in Canada, and stop trying to dictate our politics, and we won't tell you who to vote for.

Do you not read anything I've said or are you just purposely being frustrating?

Look, I love the US. My fiance is American so I alot of my friends. I love the US as I love Canada. It is just as much home to me.

That does NOT mean that I have to agree with your gvt though. Even your own constitution gives me that right.

I AM an American citizen at heart and I will be legally as soon as possible. I have the right to be terrified of this man and how many people are allowing him to do the things he's doing.

Perhaps its ok to you to lose your freedoms but you know what? It's not ok to me or millions of other people out there.

Disagreeing with a gvt is NOT hating a nation.

I can't think of a freedom I have lost. And most importantly my poor family has gained $ because of his tax cuts. I will vote for any President who supports cutting taxes across the board, that I agree with him on foreign policy, abortion, and judicial nominees is also an extreme plus.

Ok, When thousands of your people DIE from a terror attack. DON'T CALL THE USA FOR HELP. Ok?

Do us all a favor, if you don't like it here MOVE OUT!

First, CNN is AMERICAN. What did you think we only recieved Canadian TV channels? Yall are right next door and the biggest, most powerful nation in the world. Of course we receive American TV.

My fiance is NOT in the military but I've been hearing Bush talk about bringing back the draft. Hmm, let's think here....
why do you think I'm scared?

Starting what provacative threads? I've hardly started any threads in this place, though I've joined quite a few.

Just because I'm Canadian (atm) doesn't mean I shouldn't say anything about the man.

I find it amazing that, instead of concentrating on whats really going on, you decide to just attack me for being Canadian.

Why do I always have to defend myself and my feelings about the US in these threads? For the last time, I LOVE the States. I HATE the President.

And hello???!!! I DID say that Bush scares me. Pointing out that I'm afraid is a little redundant when I already said it don't you think?

I've never ONCE said that the response to 9/11 shouldn't have happened and I have repeatedly said that I agreed with the US going into Afghanistan (and yes Canada supported that action and sent troops of our own). But Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Neither do most of these other countries that Bush wants to attack.

You attack another country, remove its gvt, devastate its people and infrastructure and you call it freedom but they lost more than they gained. Little to no medical care, starving every day because of lack of food, loss of homes and businesses because of bombs blowing them up, loss of lives (more than just soldiers die in war you know), and you think they should be grateful because you impoverished them.

You received an attack that was devastating, tragic and should NEVER happen again but is NOTHING to what these poor people have suffered because Bush decided to take it upon himself to "liberate" countries and diseminate his version of a good life to them.

How would you feel in their place? You hate these countries now but how would you feel if you had been invaded and have been suffering ever since?

Creating a gvt is one thing that takes alot of time and effort but in the meantime, the people of the country are suffering.

Why do you think any country should be happy about that? Would YOU be happy about that? Even your poorest citizens still live better than a worn torn devastated country with no gvt.

You bet some people are grateful and say thank you. Why wouldn't they? They were watching your soldiers shoot people.

Supporting your country and its people is one thing. Supporting a gvt that is now trying to wrangle its way out of fixing the country it ruined by appealing to a society (The UN) that they previously snubbed is low and morally reprehensible.

I've been sitting here watching whats going on and I was shocked when the American people allowed the Patriot Act through. I was floored when Bush sat there and talked about nuking third world countries and removing the US from international treaties banning nuclear arms. Every day, I hear about another country that he has insulted or is planning to attack and I wonder when Canada will be next and when will the first nuclear weapon button be pushed.

We stand on the brink of world war because of his actions as nations live in fear of what this man will do next.

You think I should keep my mouth shut? Guess again. What he does impacts EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in the world not just a couple of countries. You cannot expect to be given respect if you give none is return.

I'd rather not be blown to bits in a nuclear war thanks and I will not shut my mouth when this single man of the most powerful nation in the world threatens everything for his own agenda.

I keep waiting for him to declare himself emperor because he's heading in that direction.

Dramatic, yes, but also the truth.

Fear? You bet I'm afraid and so should you be. The very fact that there are no good candidates for the Presidency is a very bad sign. The fact that so many people can't seem to see that is worse.

I only got to the beginning of page 2 BUT as I've said a zillions times lately...IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T MOVE HERE!!!! My god!!! Its unbelievable how much people can complain when they aren't even citizens let alone live in this country!! As I said, I did not read all of the posts YET but I'm going back to read them now.

I live in the county south of Clark County and have not heard of this story yet. Thanks for the link. If I hear anything, I'll keep you posted. As for Clark County, Kerry visited there at night right after Bush's speech at the Republican Convention.
