Hi,
Does anyone have advice on the buses that run from OKW to the parks (in August)? We have always rented a car before, but I don't think this budget will allow it. Is it very bad?

Also, will National or Alamo come and pick up a rental car from you instead of having to take the time to bring it back to the CCC?

Thanks!

I'm not completely sure, but you have to drop off the rental car to CCC and they will provide you a shuttle back.

What do you mean "Is it very bad"? OKW gets their own bus and since I'm a bus driver there, I know that it never seems to get really crowded (maybe in the morning - I'm a night-time driver!) but it never seems too bad. There are 5 stops in the resort so it is one of the bigger resorts. I always find the OKW guest super friendly and enjoy talking to them. The only time you will share a bus with anyone is late at night and your at one of the parks and your at a restaurant in the park and the park has already closed, then Disney will put a few resorts on one bus to take those guests home. its a courtesy bus! Like RainForest Cafe at AK - they will line buses up after the park is closed and take those guests and others who are still lingering in the stores. That will be one of the few times that will happen. At closing also, OKW doesnt seem to fill up too fast so you might wait a little longer than maybe the Pop Century cus the dispatchers have to get those lines down first, so Pop might get 2 buses to your every 1 bus cus your resort might not be too busy or your line too long. During the day, the dispatches are done by computer and how they come up in the computer and at night when we are emptying the park, it is dispatched according to what line is the busiest. Anyway, I hope this answers some questions. I always enjoy driving OKW!!!:)

We love the bus service there. Never wait too long, never full except at park closing.

OKW has a main road in the center, vs. some of the other big resorts, like CBR or POR which have a road on the outside. Somehow because of the inside road, people think it takes a REALLY long time to go through. It doesn't at all.

We stayed at South Pointe. You get on, go up the road for a minute then turn left to Turtle Pond. Load, turn around and go back to main road - 3-5 minutes. Go up main road 1 min., turn left to Miller's Road, load, turn around and go back to main road 5 min. Stop at Main Hospitality House, 3-5 minutes, then you're off!

OKW is SO centrally located that you're at a park within 15-20 minutes TOPS! It's a great location and there's always buses running!

Thanks for the info! What I meant by "really bad" was waiting 20+ minutes or so. When we went to Williamsburg last year their busses were like that. It's been a long time since we've taken Disney busses, but I had the Williamsburg experience in my mind. I was worried that my DS who is 11 would whine while waiting.

We'll be looking for you norrodh!

I can't promise it wont be longer than 20 minutes cus sometimes it can be up to 45 minutes but thats during busy times and alot of times it is the DTD buses which you dont really have to worry about because you also have the boats to dtd also. Have a great trip and defintely look for me!! I work out of AK and DHS mostly but can be floated over to another park to help out when they are closing. Enjoy!:)

The bus service at OKW is no worse than any of the other resorts. Just relax and you'll get there.

In fact the bus service at OKW is most likely the best in WDW.

Over all the bus system is really very good...........yes sometimes you have to wait some.......but is rarely long.

EXCEPT early morning and evening. The 200 +/- buses that WDW run is the size of most middle sized cities.......have you ever seen a rush hour AM or Pm that isn't totally backed up? How many of those rush hours are dumping 25,000 people at the bus stops over 30 minutes to 2 hours?

It really comes down to if you use Mass transit or at least familiar with it........you mostly likely know WDW bus are good....it you never or rarely use Mass Tranist.you will never be happy with it.or a bus system.

Just IMO

Have a great trip!

Actually, we now have well over 300 buses, which moves us past Broward County's fleet of 294 to be the 2nd largest transit fleet in the state of FL.

Only Miami-Dade has more, with a fleet of 742 transit buses. Lynx has just 265.

(Disclaimer: The above numbers include full-size transit buses only.)

I agree.

We are DVC members at OKW since 1993 and take the buses a lot.
Most of the drivers are very friendly and nice and the bus service is good.

Can I say you will never wait more than 20 minutes?
No, but the bus service is very good in general.

Sorry - a correction:

I just found out today that, contrary to rumors, we scrapped about the same number of buses as we received, so the fleet stays at around 290, and Disney Transport is still just below Broward in fleet size.

The fleet is expected to grow next year to support AOA resort.
